Chapter 1731 The veteran is not dead(1/2)

When the white light faded again, Wei Ran found that he had not returned to the world he was familiar with.

Looking around, I was wearing a loose shorts, T-shirt and flip-flops. I was standing on the lawn beside a forest, trying to grab the skin and muscles on my arms. The loose feel implies that I was no longer young at this time.

Looking up, under the shade of trees not far away, there were a row of jeeps parked side by side.

If we subdivided it, these cars include the Willis MB used during World War II, and some of them began to appear in the Moss Battlefield. The Willis MC that was the same as the one used by Grant at the time, and the Willis MD model using round fenders.

Although the models are different, the cars are parked particularly neatly. When he got up and walked over, he could see different patterns on the hoods of these cars.

Some of them are painted with the logo of the White Whale, some are painted with Dumbo, and some are painted with envelopes pierced by an arrow, with the arrow still dripping with blood. There is also one, painted with a goddess of Liberty holding a bomb in one hand and a middle finger with the other.

Fortunately, there were no seven condoms of different sizes on her head.

While looking at these cars, he also noticed in the jeep's rearview mirror that he looked like he was in his fifties, and there was a monthly magazine "Barrier" in the driving seat of the jeep next to him.

In this August 1965 newspaper, a large amount of space was used to report various crimes and anti-war activities about the difficult war.

Putting down the newspapers, he turned his head and looked at the clearings behind the jeep, where there were several slightly outdated 1950-style cold area hexagonal tents.

In the middle of these tents, there were several old men with disheveled figures busy barbecue or playing cards around a camping table. There was also a radio on the table, and there was also reports of the Vietnam War.

On the edge of a tent next to it, there was an old man who seemed to be a little younger than him, holding a guitar and singing the song "Bug Out Boogie" that mocked the 8th Army.

After a closer look, the person who sang seemed to be Alvin, the postman in the previous scene.

"Victor, has Brad not come back yet?" asked an old man who looked almost seventy years old and had a big belly.

Just a glance, he recognized that it was Tom, the captain of the White Whale.

Before Wei Ran could speak, a bicycle was ridden from a distance. He also recognized it as Brad riding the bike.

He looked much older, but his figure was pretty good. On his chest, there was a Kodak tank camera. In the bicycle rack baskets, there were boxes of beer respectively.

"I'm back"

Brad said, already holding the brakes and panting, "Beer is good to buy, but I went to several stores to buy film. Victor, come and help me."

"Come"

Wei Ran walked over, helped the other party to move the two boxes of beer, and handed it to an old man who came. He was Philip, the mechanic on the White Whale back then. Naturally, he was no longer young.

As the old men sat down at a long wooden table and took the cold beer and cigars assigned to him by Brad, Wei Ran also recognized everyone at the table.

Here are the gunners Martin, Robert and Jerry who were left by Dumbo's crew, as well as all the members of the White Whale crew who survived. Of course, there are also the postman Alvin and Brad on the Moss battlefield.

All of these people are no longer young, with sparse hair, raised belly, loose skin and muscles, and even age spots that have crawled onto the skin.

All of this seems to confirm the bragging old mai's words, "The veteran does not die, but it just gradually witheres."

"Brad, I heard that your son is going to join the army?" asked the deputy captain Paul.

"That idiot"

Brad sighed helplessly, "Martina and I advised him for a long time, but he went."

"What unit did he get?" asked Martin, the gunner on Dumbo.

"The First Division of the Great Red" Brad said helplessly, "I hope he can come back alive."

"He will come back alive," said George, the gunner of the White Whale.

"Where are your children? Did they participate in the Vietnam War?" Brad asked.

“My kids participated”

The first one to speak was Robert, the surviving gunner of Dumbo crew. "He is also a brainless idiot."

"So too, my child" Bill, the navigator of the White Whale, said.

"My kids were also involved, but he was back with injuries." Gunner George said gladly, "he threw away one of his arms, but at least he was still alive."

"My child is captured," said the gunner Lewis worriedly, "I hope he is still alive."

"My child is missing," Philip sighed.

"They should probably bring a streamer," sighed Paul, the former deputy captain.

"Those things, or the French must-eat that take up the charge, cannot protect anyone at all."

Brad almost habitually cursed, picked up the beer and touched everyone and said, "Friends, I'm ready to join the war, too."

"you?"

The former captain Tom almost choked by the beer that had just been poured into his mouth, "Brad, are you crazy? Do you think you were still in your 20s?"

“I don’t plan to go harder”

Brad put down his beer, "I plan to go to the anti-war demonstrations, for my Curtis, and for all our children to come back alive from the battlefield as soon as possible."

“I’ve been participant long ago”

"Last month, I also organized all the teachers and kids from our high school to join the parade as the principal," Jonathan said.

"We attended, too," Bill said, "and some of my friends and former colleagues all attended."

Alvin followed, "My children have also participated, and there are many veterans I met on the Chaomos Battlefield."

"I asked you to come here just to organize a parade together."

Brad said, "Call our friends and comrades-in-arms as veterans of World War II and Chao War."

“I participate”

Captain Tom said first, "When?"

"I'll participate, too," said the navigator Bill, and the other old guys also held beers and said they "joined the war."

"How is it on the 15th?" Brad asked, "On the 15th of this month, we will go to Washington."

"Driving our jeep?" Gunner Jerry asked, pointing to the row of jeeps in the distance.

“Yes”

Brad nodded, "This is perhaps the only thing we old guys can do for the kids."

"We'll be on time," Gunner George said first, and the rest made the same promise.

"Do we need to dress uniformly then?"

Paul asked, even putting on reading glasses and taking out a pen and a notepad the size of a palm from his pocket.

"If your uniform and medals are still there"

Brad said, and took out a key ring as thick as a wrist from his pocket. On the key ring were streamers after ribbon, "Then put them on too."

As he said that, he removed one streamer after another from the old key ring and distributed it to everyone, including Wei Ran.

"Where does this come from?" Robert asked after taking the streamer.

"Dude and White Whale" Brad said, "and the Statue of Liberty that has crashed into the North African desert."

"We need another photo"

Captain Tom suggested, "Gentlemen, we need another photo, Brad, we need the photos you and Victor, and even more, the photos that Grant sent back from the front line when he was alive, print them out and paste them on our car."

“This is a good proposal”

Brad said, taking off the camera and handing it to Wei Ran, "Victor, please take another photo for us."

"My honor, soldiers." Wei Ran said, getting up and taking the camera.

While he was waiting patiently, these actions were far less flexible than those of the past, and the soldiers walked together to the jeep not far away and stood in a row. They clamped the ribbons between their fingers and raised their hands to salute, allowing Wei Ran to press the shutter for the last time in the white light.

When the white light faded, Wei Ran took a breath of exhaustion. He came back, returned to the world he was familiar with, and returned to the underground studio of the Time Library.

After rubbing his face gently, the fatigue on Wei Ran's face was replaced by a smile.

Although I had a walk around the Chaomos battlefield without planning, in general...

I'm in a great mood!

Take out the cigarette box from the metal notebook and take out a cigarette. He slowly put it on the tortoiseshell cigarette holder and lit it. Then Wei Ran looked at the busy metal quill and the lines of text written by it.

The veteran is not dead

Dumbo Crew:

On March 12, 1945, crew member Steven was killed in an air strike on Nagoya.

In the early morning of the 28th of the same month, the Dumbo bomber crashed during a mine-bracing mission. The crew captain Charles, deputy captain Baker, navigator Bob, mechanic Arthur, radio telegrapher Jack, bomber Ryan, and tail gunner Dean were killed.

In September of the same year, the crew's surviving gunners Martin, Robert and Jerry retired one after another, and jointly operated the Dumbo Restaurant and the Dumbo Hotel in California.

In the winter of 1960, due to the first dollar crisis, Dumbo Restaurant and Dumbo Hotel went bankrupt due to poor management, and the three moved to Philadelphia with their families.

Since 1963, the three people have joined the anti-war movement.

From 1970 to 1975, the three people passed away one after another.

Moby Dick Unit:

On March 18, 1945, crew member Anthony was killed in an air strike on Kobe.
