Chapter 5 Ghost Tactics

"Guess what will happen to the No. 12 group?" Team assistant coach Micha Sluthbury is an amiable black man, only a few years older than Stevens, and just joined the coaching staff not long ago.

After he understood the current situation of the team, he knew that Stevens would be the coach of the Bulldogs in the future, so he maintained a good personal relationship with him on weekdays.

Since winning Stevens' attention on the first day of training on the 12th, Micha has also paid more attention to the big yellow-skinned player.

He came to the same conclusion as Stevens. This No. 12 is of the IQ type player. You can find out the advantages of this type of player from him, such as intelligence, diligence, hard work, etc.

Even so, Micha is still not optimistic about No. 12. His physical fitness is too poor and he is not enough to gain a foothold in the first-level league. Those strong black players will easily knock him away in the air like a piece of paper.

"Even if No. 12 can understand the content on the tactical board, how can he pass on the information in his mind to his teammates?" Stevens shook his head. He was a little disappointed with this group of players. Maybe he shouldn't have arranged such tactical training courses at all. The United States does not lack basketball geniuses, but obviously geniuses are not among this group of people.

Micha nodded. This is the key point. The players' grouping is random. These people may not know each other's names, and it is difficult to even have basic communication, let alone any tacit understanding.

"Huh?" Stevens turned his attention to the No. 12 group again and found something interesting, the players seemed to be communicating with each other.

Li Rong also knew at this moment that the key to this tactics class was not memorizing tactics, but how to run out the tactics with his teammates after memorizing the tactics.

There is no problem with his memory ability. Thirty seconds are enough to make him remember what is on the tactical board, but how to coordinate his teammates has become the biggest problem.

Fortunately, there was an acquaintance in his group, Dennis, who guided him in strength training in the morning.

After understanding the key, Li Rong quickly clapped his hands, attracting the attention of other members of the team.

"Guys, do you want to pass this test beautifully and show your face in front of the coaching staff?" Li Rong was very smart. He did not directly say that I had a way to let us run the tactics, but instead captured the players' eagerness to show in front of the coach.

Sure enough, as soon as he finished speaking, everyone's eyes focused on Li Rong.

"I have a way, but I don't have time to explain it to everyone. As long as you believe me, it will definitely make the coaching staff look at you with admiration." Li Rong's voice sounded very bewitching, and he almost instantly established himself as the core of this temporary team.

"I believe you!" The big man Dennis spoke first. He had seen Li Rong's strength yesterday. The two of them trained together this morning and showed their support for Li Rong first.

After the first person agreed, the others hesitated for a moment and nodded one after another.

"Okay," Li Rong's face filled with a confident smile, "I'll tell you a long story. The entire tactical drill process is divided into two steps. The first is the content on the memory tactic board, and the second is the execution. Is there anyone having any difficulties in the memory tactics in the first step?"

"I'm fine," said Dennis.

"I'm fine, either."

...

After Dennis, two more teammates said they could remember their running positions on the tactical board in a short period of time.

Only a fat white man wearing No. 37 was left. He grabbed his red hair helplessly: "I never remember the coach's tactical arrangements. I just played on the court based on my feelings."

After learning about his teammate's situation, Li Rong breathed a sigh of relief. Only one person had difficulty remembering, so it was easy to deal with.

Clearing his throat, Li Rong continued: "I have seen the situation of others just now. The tactics arranged by this baby-face coach are not complicated. They are basically sideline ball tactics or position cover tactics."

Dennis and another white defender wearing a black No. 40 jersey both nodded. They both had a relatively deep understanding of on-court tactics, so they agreed with Li Rong's statement.

"Since there is difficulty in memory on the 37th, then we will put him in the simplest position. Do you have no objection?"

This arrangement is very reasonable, and everyone else nodded. The fat man smiled at Li Rong with some gratitude.

"If you have the sideline ball tactics, No. 37 will serve as the outbound serving," Li Rong said to the fat man. "Generally speaking, you just need to remember the receiver, and it may also be asked to take on the task of opening up space later. You just need to remember where you need to run to after serving the ball. If it is a position cover, you act as the coverer. At most, you will disassemble the running position once or twice. Is it okay?"

"No problem!" The little fat man slapped his chest and made him feel a lot easier. He could complete the simple pass and running as long as he was not a fool.

"Okay!" Li Rong continued, "Next, I'll make an arrangement, Dennis." He turned his attention to the black big man, "You are the inside flag of the team, you need to fully understand your tactical running. Is there any problem?"

"No problem!" Dennis replied coldly.

"There are three of us left next," Li Rong pointed at himself and turned his eyes to the other two, "You remember to remember that you will be on the field after you have your own running position on the tactical board. You must always look at me, no problem, right?"

The 40th white defender and the remaining black defender nodded, saying that he would remember his responsibilities.

As soon as Li Rong made arrangements, it was their turn to play.

"Guys!" Stevens clapped his hands. Although he was already a little desperate for these players, he still felt some hope in his heart when he saw the scene of Li Rong communicating with his teammates just now.

"Coach!" Everyone gathered around him.

Stevens took out the tactical board and began to draw the tactics that had been prepared long ago: "Now what we simulated is to fall behind by one point at the last moment. Now I'll arrange a sideline serving to attack the basket."

As Li Rong expected, the young baby-faced coach arranged a sideline ball tactic for their group.

Stevens drew a circle on the edge of the tactical board: "This is the serving position, you need to hang the ball high to the basket, the receiver will appear here, and you run to the same bottom corner three-point line to wait for the opportunity."

The fat white man stared at the tactical board with a close eye, wishing he could eat it, and soon became familiar with this simple task.

"The team's organizational guard," Stevens drew a circle at the top of the arc in the half, and then drew an arrow perpendicular to the court next to it. "After the whistle sounds, the organizational guard should quickly run near the midfield and pretend to catch the ball."

Li Rong felt relieved. This task was also very simple, just hand it over to the black defender.

Stevens then drew a fork to the right of the free throw line: "The inside player who catches the ball will play a pick-and-roll with the remaining life guards, forcing the opponent to switch defenses, and then quickly attract the opponent's inside player who switches defenses to the three-point line."

Having said this, Li Rong already understood what Stevens meant. He wanted to create an opportunity for the inside to misalign himself. After the pick-and-roll was replaced, the opponent's center would be forced to defend near the three-point line, so that the inside would be in a state of emptiness.

This is not over yet. Stevens' last arrangement directly made Li Rong admire him and he spent a fork on the tactical board: "At this time, the opponent may quickly turn another inside player over. It doesn't matter. Let's repeat the above tactics again and pull the other inside player over this rotation out of the three-point line."

Awesome!

After listening to Stevens' tactical arrangement, Li Rong couldn't find a more appropriate word to describe his mood at this time than these two words.

This time, the sideline serve first attracts the opponent's fastest point guard, and then uses the pick-and-roll opportunity to pull the inside away.

The most classic thing is that the tactic of pulling the inside is also the last insurance. If another insider changes defense, Stevens will give him a re-use of the same trick.

In this way, no matter what, the player who defends our inside offense will definitely be a small man.

For our center, facing such misaligned defense, it is very easy to get the ball in the inside line. After receiving the ball, as long as you don’t make any mistakes, facing an opponent who is half a head shorter than you, the probability of scoring this goal is basically more than 90%.

This opportunity is even more stable than creating open spaces for the pitcher, because the pitcher may miss the shot, while the center player who receives the ball at the basket has a very high shooting percentage against the small defense.

In other words, as long as this tactic is successfully executed, you can basically get two points.

Through this tactic, Li Rong quickly judged that the baby-faced coach in front of him was a very informative guy.
