Chapter 1789 The Longest Day Five

Hayes witnessed such a terrifying death for the first time, his heart pounded. Could this be their end?
All the troops were wiped out and no one survived.
Although their skin is gray and their eyes are deep, the victims were like him, flesh and blood, and all wore the uniforms of the Astral Army.
Hayes' eyes scanned the dark scene, and he found that there was no enemy in the body, and all the dead were imperial troops, as if an invisible enemy had descended from the high places from the sky and attacked them as they marched.
Although far away, Hayes could still see the terrified expressions on the faces of those dead people who had not yet rotted. He had never seen such a battlefield before. Here, it seemed that the wind himself brought death to the battlefield.
His heart almost jumped out of his chest, a silent horror he had never encountered before.
The young soldier reached for the kettle, but immediately remembered that he was wearing a mask.
Some people opened their masks and vomited. Hayes found that they were fine. He realized that Hashet might be scaring him, so he also lifted his mask and retching a few times, then took a sip of cold clean water.
The cold water made him feel a little better, but it did not relieve his inner anxiety. Did they have been exposed to the enemy's gun now? Did they hide a monster called heretic in the shadows around them?
Hayes could feel the same thoughts brewing in other people's minds, and the uneasiness began to spread in the team, causing the team to move significantly slower.
The veteran company commander looked at the people around him and frowned in disgust. Hayes didn't know his name yet.
Then he warned everyone with a stern tone.
"If anyone thinks it is something unnatural monster or ghost, forget it now, these people are killed by swords and guns, and they have killed many enemies before they die, but the battlefield has been specially cleaned, and heresy does this to make us feel uneasy. This is their old trick, intimidation and threats, don't let them succeed, you are the soldiers of the Empire, find your inner courage."
Soon, the teams on both sides arrived at the attack line almost at the same time, more than 800 meters apart from each other, and in front of them were the enemy's trenches. The company commanders squatted in front of the team and commanded with gestures. The soldiers formed a loose infantry line behind them.
Hayes squatted in the second row of the team. He looked at the rolling firefighting area, which had just been violently damaged by artillery fire, and even the high temperature of the explosion remained on the ground, making everything smoked and making the visibility of the entire battlefield much lower.
After waving his arms hard, the company commanders began to lead the team forward. They moved partly, partly covered, and then alternated their identities.
Hayes held the gun and tried to concentrate, but he couldn't help looking at the corpse on the ground.
The corpses here are hard to identify, but they are even more tragic, basically all fragments. Suddenly, he stroked his feet and almost fell down. He almost screamed when he looked down.
It was a corpse half buried in the soil, the burnt skull lost its chin, and the black eye sockets seemed to be mocking Hayes, while Hayes' feet stepped directly into his stomach, and the slippery intestines and internal organs almost tripped him. This was too stimulating for a 15-year-old boy, so that Hayes's brain became blank for a few seconds.
"Go away, don't stop."
Hashet turned around, reached out and grabbed Hayes' arm, and pulled it to him.
"Little devil, follow me."
Along the way, there were more and more corpses that Hayes had never seen before. They wore red armor with spikes, which were very similar to those of the Astral Army. The faces of these people were very distorted and had evil marks engraved. Many of them even cut off their lips and exposed their white teeth.
Is this what a heresy looks like?
The team gradually crossed the original line of fire. The officers immediately stopped. The soldiers found their respective shelters. Hayes was dragged into a pit by Hashett, but immediately he realized that he had pressed something soft. He looked down and saw that it was a thigh that broke from the root, and his white joints were exposed to the torn flesh.
Did someone once lie here like himself, but a shell fell down—
Hayes shook his head and forced himself not to pay attention to these things. Instead, he lay on the edge of the pit. The water supply station, which had been blown to a small part, and the surrounding ruins, stood three hundred meters ahead, as if a charge could rush up.
At this time, he noticed that the class leader of the target was still impressed by the fact that he was famous for eating in the recruit camp, and was publicly whipped for sneaking into the kitchen.
The man lay behind a small slope, as if he was saying something, and then raised the laser gun in his hand.
However, before he could shoot, a beam of light shot out from the smoke, directly tilting his head back, and a clear hole appeared on his face.
The next moment, everyone started yelling.
"Discover the enemy!"
"Let's go down!"
In an instant, the silent battlefield boiled, and as some soldiers tried to run across the open ground and the soil churned under their feet, guns and cannons in the distance opened fire, and many fires emerged from the silent water supply station, which was a sign of heavy weapons firing from the structure, so that the entire building seemed to be ignited by the fire.
The bullets and lasers also came with shells. They hit the infantry line of the attacking party very accurately, turning the ground into a boiling cauldron, and many soldiers' bodies were torn to pieces.
Hayes trembled and saw a soldier from the same camp hit on the thigh. He struggled to ask for help from the people around him when he fell to the ground. When the other wanted to drag him into the bunker, a shell fell to the ground and both of them were blown to pieces.
As the head was poked out, the blood and mud caused by the explosion splashed on Hayes' respirator mask, Hayes turned around and tried to wipe the stain so that he could see again, holding the gun in one hand and constantly groping and sliding on the smooth surface with the other.
When he finally cleared his vision, a broken arm fell from mid-air and fell directly between Hayes' legs, and he instinctively screamed.
"Stop calling."
Hashet slapped him in the head and then kicked the broken arm away.
"Let's fire, fire!"
"Where to fight?"
"Where is any movement or striking!"
"oh oh!"
Hayes finally remembered his soldier's identity. He lay on the edge of the pit, his fingers trembling and groping on the dirt-filled laser gun.
"Open insurance first!"
Hearing the reminder on the side, Hayes quickly turned on the safety of the laser gun, then pressed it on his shoulder, glanced at the undulating outline of the fire in front of him, and vaguely saw many shaking circles, perhaps the enemy's head?
