Chapter 20 Northern Tribe (13)

As mentioned before, the village was burning clean in the fire. The tribes picked up a tent that still retained its appearance, and used the animal's fur to make up the hole and propped it up, which gave a place for the chief to negotiate with Hestein.

After experiencing the war just now, the wrinkles on the chief's face became deeper, his waist became more bent, and his strength to speak was weakened by three points. Even so, he still had to support himself and nodded and bowed constantly to deal with Hestein.

Hestein sat on a stone and looked down at the chief from top to bottom. Compared with his tall and mighty body, the elderly chief looked like a baby.

Lily stood behind Hestein with a sword, her eyes blindfolded in black cloth looked up at the sky above the nothingness as always.

"I need you to set your eyes on this grassland," Hestein said. "Once you find traces of the Aztlands, report to me immediately."

"Okay." said the chief. His strength to speak seemed to be overdrawn in the battle just now. Every time he said a few words, he had to take a few breaths before he could catch up. "I just don't know... which range is it?"

"The scope of your tribe's activity shall prevail. Other tribes shall be responsible for other areas."

The chief hung his head deeply and responded, "As you wish."

"I still need tribes of about twenty to thirty years to go back with me," Hestein said. "We are very strange to this grassland, and it is best to give each of my vassals a guide."

"Do you want to be... young and beautiful, girls?"

"Elder age and gender don't matter. But your brain needs to be smart and your hands and feet need to be flexible."

"Okay." The chief kept his head down and continued to respond, "As you wish."

"That's all my requests. Get ready in these two days."

Hestein stood up, moved his muscles and prepared to walk out of the tent. The chief stood up in a hurry and called him from behind.

"Wait a minute, Hestein... Sir. Please give this and accept it."

While supporting his body with a tent, he trembled and handed his crutch to Hestein. Hestein then noticed that at the top of the crutch, there was a green gem the size of a nail, embedded in wood.

"This gem is a treasure that has been passed down from several patriarchs. If it is taken to the Aztland city-state in the south, it should be exchanged for a lot of things... Please accept it as a reward for our help to you today."

"Since it is the token of the chief, it's better to hold it in your hands."

Hestein answered perfunctorily and walked out of the tent.

"Wait...wait! Lord Hestein!"

The chief stumbled and chased after him, saying to a tribe who was standing by the tent: "Get the things up!"

Three packages were carried to Hestein. The first package was a few animal furs, the second package was a few pieces of air-dried meat, and the third package was a few picked fruits.

"The tribe has just been burned, and this is all the property we can take out now... Please accept these to repay your kindness today."

"If you accept these things, you will not be able to have a good time," said Hestein. "Now you are also a member of the Northern Alliance, so there is no need to thank me for this. We all have to work together when dealing with Aztland next."

"Northern Alliance? I...we..."

"What?" Hestein's voice suddenly became serious, "Are you still unwilling to join?"

"No...I...we..."

The chief's legs became weak and he sat down on the ground. His head hung for a long time, and after a long time, he replied in a low voice:

"Okay...we agree, we join."

Leaving the chief sitting on the ground, Hestein strode towards his army's camp. Lily followed closely and moved forward alone with Hestein's breath. After leaving the tribe for a distance, she suddenly said, "Hestein, he seems to be afraid of you."

Hestein said nothing, just said "um" with his nose.

"Although it is a weak tribe, I think this chief is one of the smartest leaders on this grassland."

"What do you mean?"

"You didn't accept the gifts they gave." Lily smiled bitterly, "What do you want?"

"Nothing to want, I just protected them from the hands of the Aztrans."

"You mobilized tens of thousands of troops, half of the lord of the pirate kingdom, and built a large number of bases along the route. It was so exhausting national strength that you even went to war with the Aztland Empire. Is your purpose just to uphold justice for the indigenous people on this grassland? Are you such a good man?"

Hestein snorted and speeded up.

"That chief is really smart." Lily continued to look at the empty space and said to herself, "He knows that how much you pay means you expect to get twice, three times, or even more than that. He knows that he can't afford it."

Hestein didn't speak, but just accelerated his pace further and left Lily far behind.

Lily didn't chase after him, but said from a distance: "Hestein, I wanted to ask a long time ago - do you want to occupy the entire Wenlan?"

"This is not Wenlan!"

Hestein turned his head unbearably, and the angry roar almost broke the eardrums of the person who heard him.

"The uninhabited rich land - that is the legendary Wenlan. And there have been indigenous people here, and every plot has indigenous people. This place is not Wenlan at all, it is just a new continent that we didn't know before!"

After yelling, Hestein seemed to have lost his strength and sat down on the ground. Lily shook her head and walked slowly to her.

"Now... Hestein, why are you so obsessed with Wenlan?"

"Have you ever been to the Seven Hills Empire? Have you ever seen the walls and cities of Constantineer with your own eyes?"

"No." Lily pointed to the black cloth on her eyes, "Even if I go, I can't see it."

"If you go, you will understand the meaning of the word "civilization" as I do." Hestein raised his head and sighed with his eyes closed. "The Seven Hills Empire is to us, just like we do to these tribes. Being a pirate can only gain a temporary advantage, but I want my country to be truly strong - not only in these decades, but in hundreds or thousands of years, it can still stand on the top of the world's nations. That's why I want to find rich land...so I want to find Wenlan!"

“…and then, I found out that Wenlan was just a fantasy.”

"Yes...fantasy. Every nation is living with all its might. As much rich land as there are, it raises many indigenous peoples. Unmanned but rich land cannot exist at all."

"So you have to become a robber again and seize this land."

"From my father to me, my exploration of Wenlan has been going on for more than ten years... How can I let these more than ten years of hard work be wasted?"

Hestein turned his head and looked at Lily with his eyes blankly: "Come to my tent tonight."

Lily smiled sweetly: "Do you have to be at night? Actually, here..."

——"Let me do it!"
