454 Soldiers are expensive and fast

According to the official statistics of Southern Africa, there are already 100,000 Chinese in the Zambezi River Basin.

Corresponding to these 100,000 Chinese are the hundreds of thousands of Africans employed by Niasaran from Southern Africa, the Kingdom of Mozambique, and the Free State of the Congo.

Rock once believed that even if Africans were not required to participate, Chinese could build Nyasaran into a paradise on earth.

This is not wrong, but it turns out that with the participation of Africans, Rock's development speed of Nyasalan will be greatly accelerated.

Moreover, Africans in this era really don’t have as many problems as they are in another time and space. They are lazy, idle, and nonsense, and other problems. Of course, they also have them. However, under the strict laws of the colonies, Africans really dare not be lazy or idle. People with these problems basically have three feet high on the graves.

No one thinks this is abuse of Africans.

And the key point is that the human resources in Africa in this era are really cheap. If an adult African is hired, his daily salary is only a few pennies.

Even if you buy an adult labor, the cost will not exceed five pounds. Africans will not even consider this an insult to them, because white colonists have been treating Africans like this for hundreds of years, and for Africans of this era, this is their destiny.

Niasaran is also different from other regions in its use of Africans.

In all African colonies, including southern Africa, the existence of Africans is equivalent to free labor. Many colonists will even take the initiative to marry Africans to get more free labor in the future. Therefore, although Africans do not have any political rights, in Africa, Africans still have a lot of room for survival.

Nyasalan is not like this. Nyasalan will never take the initiative to buy African labor, nor will they actively accept Africans to settle in Nyasalan, including those prisoners of war in the Natal rebellion. When Nyasalan uses them, he will also pay them their salaries and treat their affiliation as an employment relationship.

The biggest benefit of doing this is that there are no hidden dangers. Hundreds of thousands of Africans in Niasaran formed more than a dozen different construction companies, which played a huge role in Niasaran's development of the Zambezi River Basin.

Whenever these construction companies go to a new area, they will first level the land, build a simple camp, and then build roads, repair water conservancy, reclaim wasteland, and clean up wild animals that are threatening to humans. When this area gradually becomes suitable for human settlement, these construction workers will leave the area and head to the next undeveloped area.

What is left for new immigrants is a camp that can shelter from the wind and rain, a standard road that can communicate with the outside world, and thousands of acres and even tens of thousands of acres of undeveloped farms.

In the Zambezi River Basin, basically every settlement has about a thousand people. The camps they live in have certain defensive functions. All adults will receive regular weapons training. Those who perform well in training will join the militia, and those who excel can participate in the selection of the army and have the opportunity to become a glorious professional soldier.

Once a family becomes a professional soldier, all taxes for this family are exempted. The Niasalan government will also issue benefits every year, including free seeds, livestock, fertilizers, and daily necessities. Therefore, it is a very honorable thing to join the army in Niasalan. This is not a verbal slogan, but a good reputation established with real welfare.

The changes that Rock made to the Zambezi River Basin were turned upside down by such great efforts.

During the Portuguese colonial period, Dylan Carami and Sidney Richards' farms were both in Tete, the largest city in the Zambezi River Basin, so they were very familiar with the situation in the Zambezi River Basin at that time.

Now Tete is still the largest city in the middle reaches of the Zambezi River Basin. As for the entire Zambezi River Basin, the largest city has become Port Edward, and Tete has a new name called Hejian.

That's not right. According to the habits of white people, it should be called "Xinhejian".

Compared with the Portuguese colonial period, the changes in the city of Xinhejian are not just names, but more importantly, in Xinhejian, whites, Chinese, and Africans can live in harmony and work together to build a new river.

Although the city of New Hejian will definitely not belong to those Africans in the end, those Africans also showed great enthusiasm when building New Hejian, which is why Dylan Karami and Sidney Richards yearn for Nyasalan.

Compared with Lorenzo Maguis, which has many contradictions and sharp opposition between various ethnic groups, the stability of Nyasalan is what Dylan Carami and Sidney Richards most envied. Although Nyasalan has shown strong offensiveness in recent years, conflicts between the border areas and the Congo Free State and Tanganika have been constantly, the construction in Nyasalan has not stagnated, which is obviously beneficial to the emerging bourgeoisie led by Dylan Carami and Sidney Richards.

After temporarily placing Dylan Carami and Sidney Richards at the Cape Hotel in Little Rock, Rock called Christian and Louis Broad over immediately.

After the establishment of the federal government, Christian became Minister of the Interior of Nyasara, while Louis Broad, who had already left Yaya's jurisdiction, became Brad's head in the Zambezi River Basin.

Rock wanted to support Lorenzo Maguis through Christian and Louis Broad.

"Lorenzomaquis is of course very good. There are mature farms there, excellent harbors on the east coast of Africa, and colonial bases carefully built by the Portuguese for hundreds of years. To be fair, the natural conditions of Port Edward are not as good as Lorenzomaquis. We should have driven the Portuguese away long ago, otherwise southern Africa would not be a complete southern Africa." Christian had long been salivating at Lorenzomaquis. This is understandable. It is precisely because of Lorenzomaquis' unique natural conditions that the Portuguese chose to regard Lorenzomaquis as the center of African colonization, rather than other ports.

"It is very simple to support Lorenzomaquis. After all, the Portuguese are not Germans. When Tangenica is in chaos, Germany can still send troops to support from the local area. Portugal is now unable to take care of itself. The king is on the verge of being deposed and is unable to calm the chaos of Lorenzomaquis--" Louis Broad was relaxed. Louis Broad used to be active in the North Sea basin, facing Tangenica, which is in an arms race with Britain. Now if it is Portugal, Louis Broad really feels that it is not difficult. The Portuguese and the Germans are not opponents at the same level.

"Okay, I admit that this is not difficult, but don't be careless because of this. Remember, don't let the Portuguese catch the handle." Rock was not worried that Christian and Louis Brod would not complete the task, so he specifically advised him, mainly because he was worried that the Portuguese would bite the back before he died.

As long as Nyasaran enters the rebellion of Lorenzomaguis, it is certain that the Portuguese cannot escape unscathed.

This is the tragedy of a small country with few people. It does not need to be compared with Britain. Even if it is compared with southern Africa, or even if it is listed separately, Portugal is not strong. Lorenzo Maguis has only 100,000 square kilometers left, which can be described as a small place. Therefore, the Portuguese will definitely lose. The only suspense is that if the Portuguese loses, will it build momentum internationally with a weak image and affect the reputation of Britain and southern Africa.

After all, in name, Britain and Portugal are still ally. If the Portuguese seized the handle of Nyasaran, it would really have some impact on Britain's international reputation. After all, the current colonial system was determined by Britain and France.

In terms of "external output", Christian and Louis Broad are also experts. Even the Germans have no choice but to deal with Christian and Louis Broad, let alone the Portuguese.

So Christian and Louis Brod responded with a smile, and then turned around and took a series of heavy punches.

The most effective weapon to export to the outside world is of course the mercenaries.

Don’t forget that Louis Broad himself was a mercenary, and Christian has several construction companies. Some of the construction companies in this era are not just construction workers, but also need to effectively manage tens of thousands of workers. A strong armed force is also indispensable. Therefore, Louis Broad and Christian easily arranged hundreds of mercenaries to go to Lorenzomaquis, join the Labor Party, and participate in the battle against the Royalist Party.

Hundreds sound a little small, but it is enough for Lorenzo Maguis. The white people in Lorenzo Maguis are only more than one hundred thousand. The royalist party even wants to form an African army to deal with the strong pressure from the Labor Party.

This reflects the contradiction between the Portuguese themselves. On the one hand, they exploit Africans and exploit interests to meet the needs of Portugal. On the other hand, they need to rely on the power of Africans to protect their interests in the colonies.

In this case, when Africans are unable to do so, they can only handle the Portuguese's exploitation, but once external forces intervene, the Africans' resistance can be imagined.

So the situation in Lorenzomaguis quickly collapsed. In mid-January 1909, the Labor Party's armed forces completely defeated the troops formed by the royalists at Manisa, about fifty kilometers away from Lorenzomaguis, and won control of Lorenzomaguis. At this time, Dylan Carami and Sidney Richards had not even left Niasaran.
