Chapter 213 Devil's Wine

Masao Ishihara stood in his president's office and looked at the world map hanging on the wall. At this time, he, like the successful entrepreneurs in mainland China, had a hobby of looking at the world map.

What he was thinking about was how to gradually expand his business to other overseas countries in the future. He held half a cup of his high-end product from his whiskey distillery in his right hand for 25 years, and took a sip, which was very helpful.

In fact, the history of Chinese drinking whiskey is no shorter than that of Japanese. If I remember correctly, there would be relevant records during the Jiajing period of the Qing Dynasty. This first appeared in Xu Ke's "Qing Bai Lei Chao".

Whiskey was called Huiseg at that time. It was classified as "Divine Wine". At that time, the Chinese who drank Huiseg were the earliest batch of people who pursued world trends and fashion.

Not only that, in "Official Appearance", the Westernization Movement sent officials to invite foreigners to dinner, and there was Wei Sige who drank wine. Wei Sige here was also whiskey.

Zhang Ailing's novel "Hongluanxi" contains words about the Four Roses Whiskey. The Four Roses brand whiskey, crystal yellow wine, and crystal glasses are placed on the brown and yellow table. Next to it are a few red roses and a glass of wine, which makes it so elegant and grand.

The earliest whiskey distillery in China appeared in Qingdao in the early 20th century, and it can be said that it produced the first bottle of whiskey in East Asia.

In modern Shanghai, China, a whiskey market existed early. In 1935, there were more than 97,000 liters of bottled whiskey and 130,000 liters of barrel whiskey.

The most popular whiskey sold in Shanghai is "John Walk" and Johnny Walker, but it was not called this name at that time, but Chang Nawak. The foreign company that represented it was the famous Zheng Guanghe.

Zhengguanghe also has a famous product, Zhengguanghe soda. At that time, whiskey was mixed with Zhengguanghe soda, which was trendy and fashion.

Those who later generations said that Sprite and whiskey were earthy and didn’t understand it at all. This can be said to be a retro way to drink it. Even native Scots liked to drink whiskey with soda during this period.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, there was a Qingdao Brewery among the breweries that created whiskey. However, whiskey was included in the fruit and wine workshop of the Qingdao Brewery.

When Masao Ishihara thought of this, he couldn't help but smile. When he first read this piece of information, he was surprised.

Even he never expected that the Qingdao Brewery, which represents the Chinese's own beer leader, would have such a history of brewing whiskey.

The distillery that truly produced the first bottle of New China whiskey was not the Qingdao Brewery, but the Beijing Dongjiao Wine Factory. Its name is Sunflower Whiskey.

It can be seen from this that whiskey brewing and production was so unattracted in mainland China that there was no special whiskey named wineries, and they all included them under a workshop.

Even after the reform and opening up in 1978, whiskey was also indiscriminate. Although many distillers have launched whiskey again, the whiskey they brewed is not whiskey.

The raw materials they use are mainly high-quality materials. This main raw material used to brew white wine to make whiskey is also the first to create Chinese people.

In addition, the standard for Scotch whiskey is to have a barrel aging for at least three years, while the requirements for barrel aging in the United States are not less than two years.

Only the so-called whiskey brewed during this period in mainland China generally does not have the concept of barrel-chen, and there is no industry standard. It is completely similar to the so-called domestic whiskeys on Pinduoduo in later generations.

Masao Ishihara suddenly raised his head and took a sip of the whiskey in the cup with his right hand. Although Japanese whiskey has not been much famous internationally for a long time, it is brewed according to the basic framework of learning from Scotland.

The whiskey in mainland China is completely messing around according to the principle of casual performance. The time combined, and it has been done for nearly a hundred years since 1998.

If this happened in 2021, a hundred years later, I still haven't created any of them. The only places where you can see the dawn of Chinese whiskey are from Nantou County and Yilan County in Taiwan, China.

When Masao Ishihara thought of this, a complex expression appeared on his face. When it comes to Taiwan, many mainland Chinese people in later generations looked down on this former four economic dragon.

In fact, some industries in Taiwan are still doing quite well. TSMC is one of the best representatives, after all, chip technology is far ahead.

Even if it is white wine, there is also Kinmen sorghum wine. Of course, Kinmen sorghum wine is not as good as Taiwanese people themselves, and far exceeds Wuliangye, Moutai, Fenjiu, etc.

To be fair, pure drinks are quite high, but it is still OK. However, Kinmen sorghum wine is more used as a base wine in cocktails or white wine in mixed wines.

Masao Ishihara knew very well that in this time of 1998, the most popular foreign wine in mainland China was not whiskey, but brandy.

When this wine first entered China in the Qing Dynasty, it was also classified as "Divine Wine", and was more called Brandy.

Brandy that has become popular in the Chinese mainland foreign wine market is due to Hong Kong people. It was first brought to the mainland by Hong Kong merchants.

Logically speaking, Hong Kong was one of the former colonies of Britain and should also like to drink whiskey instead of brandy, which is represented by French wine.

The symbol of xo left the impression of top foreign wine on mainland Chinese people. Even if many people don’t even know what the real meaning of xo represents is, it will not affect the slightest.

Masao Ishihara remembers it very clearly. When he was a junior high school student in his previous life, he swore in front of adults that when he grew up, he would have to drink xo, and he would have to be a horse.

Later, when I grew up, I drank it. The later generations of Rentou Maxo was far from even 2,000 soft girl coins, only about 1,500 soft girl coins, completely not as popular as Suntory, Baizhou and Yamazaki, any entry-level 12-year expensive.

Even if the raw material of brandy is grapes, the cost is more expensive than the raw material of whiskey grains, it is not the same as before, and it is no longer as grand as it was popular in mainland China in the 1980s and 1990s.
