Chapter 2 Back to 2016

The TV suddenly turned on, and the man's face appeared on the big screen. Just like before, the man was still wearing a mask, with only his eyes exposed.

This was the first time Susandi looked into a man's eyes. There were many things hidden in his eyes. She couldn't see any difference, but she could faintly feel a little worry in his eyes.

"Are you ready?" the man asked.

"Um."

"Okay..." the man said slowly, "it's time to go back..."

It's time to go back...

These four words sounded smaller and smaller in Susanti's ears, and her body became lighter, as if someone in her body was calling her.

So, under the man's voice, Sussanti suddenly became dizzy, and even her eyes began to lose focus under the white light and spread to all sides.

I don't know how long it took before her body became heavy enough to return to normal and the change was resolved.

When her symptoms got better, she found that she was still in the original cabin.

Was it unsuccessful?

Sussanti was a little disappointed and leaned on the sofa, waiting for the researchers to declare failure.

The moonlight outside the window shone on the ground, and the warm light in the hut shone on Sussanti's body, facing the humid temperature.

Something is wrong, this is very wrong.

The sun was shining brightly before the experiment, so why did night fall the next second?

Susanti squinted her eyes, still unable to figure out the reason, until an idea suddenly flashed through Susanti's mind, forcing her to find her mobile phone on the coffee table.

Hope nothing goes wrong.

Su Sandy thought to herself, then slowly pressed the phone button.

Just listening to the sound of the keys twisting, the words "8:18 on August 18, 2016" appeared in Sussandi's eyes.

Looking at the numbers in front of her, Susandi was slightly stunned. When the phone screen dimmed, she still hadn't come back to her senses.

"I seem to have succeeded?!" Susandi couldn't believe it.

She originally thought that this experiment would end in failure, but she did not expect that the change would be so fast. Sussanti was afraid that none of this was true, and quickly turned her phone back on.

The familiar yet unfamiliar numbers appeared in Susanti's sight again. It seemed that she had indeed succeeded.

The joy of success only lasted a moment in her heart, and the unfamiliar environment quickly brought her back to reality.

Sussanti came to the balcony and took in the surrounding environment, thinking about where he was and making plans for the next step.

This is a community accommodation, which is a bit unfamiliar to Su Sandy, but when she sees the convenience store opposite, her familiarity with the place is slowly recovering.

It can be said that that convenience store is where she used to work during her summer vacation.

Just as Sussanti expected, the lights of the convenience store downstairs across the street were still flashing.

In order to prove his conjecture, Susandi lost his usual composure, picked up his mobile phone and keys from the coffee table and hurried off.

Her current residence is on the twenty-third floor. As the elevator numbers continue to decrease, she seems to be getting younger along with the numbers, although this is all her fantasy.

Coming out of the gate of the community, a blast of southern heat hits your face.

Perhaps there was too much depression in his heart, and until now, Sussanti's mood was as hot as fire, burning straight to his forehead.

“Welcome~”

Pushing open the door of the convenience store, a mechanical female voice was mixed in, echoing above the spacious room.

Without exception, Susanti's arrival broke the calm in the store and also caused her mood to drop sharply.

The air conditioner in the convenience store was emitting air-conditioning at this time, and Sussanti stood at the door, letting the heat outside alternate with the air-conditioning above the air conditioner inside. She stood there blankly.

"Okay, don't worry..." Cai Dong was talking to someone on the phone at this time. When he saw someone coming from the convenience store, he subconsciously blurted out, "Xiao Su, why are you here..."

When he saw the person coming, Cai Dong couldn't tell clearly for a moment, so what he said was blurted out in an instant. When he reacted, he realized that the person in front of him was not someone he knew.

Cai Dong was suddenly stunned and looked at the phone suspiciously.

The person talking to him was none other than Su Sandy's sixteen-year-old self, the slow-tempered and sensitive Su Wangjun.

Sensing the other party's abnormality, Su Wangjun on the other end of the phone asked softly, "What's wrong with Uncle Cai?"

"It's okay, it's okay." A familiar voice quickly disrupted his thoughts, and Cai Dong quickly came to his senses, "It's just that a guest is here."

"Then Uncle Cai, go ahead and help me put the books in the locker. I'll pick them up tomorrow."

"Okay, bye."

After hanging up the phone, Cai Dong hesitated for a moment and looked at the door again.

"It turns out to be a customer. I just recognized the wrong person." Cai Dong pushed up the glasses on her nose, then smiled gently, "What does this customer need?"

Originally overwhelmed by excitement, Sussanti gradually calmed down under Cai Dong's words.

"It's okay." Susandi smiled and pretended not to care.

But her eyes still betrayed her. Seeing Cai Dong's young appearance overlapped with Cai Dong in 2022, she still had many feelings in her heart.

She and Cai Dong had known each other for many years. They first met when she was fourteen years old, when their family had just moved here. She loved geographical magazines and she naturally got to know Cai Dong who was running a bookstore at that time.

Cai Dong also likes reading, and he also has a daughter at home, so he also admires this child. The two of them soon became partners with similar interests.

Later, with the decline of paper books, Cai Dong switched to convenience stores, and at the age of sixteen, he started working here during the summer vacation.

But based on the current time, Cai Dong is indeed responsible for this point.

Susandi felt that his behavior just now was a bit reckless, so he simply walked in silently.

The door of the convenience store slowly closed as Sussanti left, leaving only a jingling sound.

Arriving at the counter, Su Santi followed Cai Dong's words and asked politely: "I'm here to buy some instant noodles. Where is the instant noodles?"

It seemed that Su Sandy's words played into his heart. Cai Dong smiled and took out a card from the drawer.

The card is full of pictures and words, roughly describing the location of the entire convenience store, allowing people to quickly find the location they want to reach.

"Num, here."

Cai Dong gently tapped the pattern on it with his finger, with a hint of pride in his tone, "Is it very clear?"

"Yes." Su Sandy nodded. She recognized that these were her past paintings, and a small smile of relief appeared on her face, "It's not bad."

"Of course." Cai Dong smiled and handed the card to Su Sandy. His sunken glasses instantly slid to the tip of his nose, and he exuded a sense of shrewdness.

"You have just moved here, I think you are very unfamiliar. I hope this card will be useful to you."

"Okay, thank you." Although Su Sandy already knew the environment here well, she still accepted the card, lightly stroked the lines on it with her fingertips, and then walked straight to Pao.

There are many types of instant noodles. Sussanti randomly selected a few packs of instant noodles as alternatives, bought some daily necessities, and looked for the next target aimlessly, finally focusing on the drinks in the refrigerator.

After picking up a few items, she went to the cashier.

For some reason, after putting down her things, Susandi felt that Cai Dong looked at her in a weird way, so weird that she felt like she had done something wrong.

"Minor?" Cai Dong asked uncertainly after glancing at Su Sandy.

"...Um."

"Underage people are not allowed to drink alcohol."

Susandi, who was twenty-two years old at this time:...

After being reminded by Cai Dong, Su Sandy saw the beer he had taken standing on the cashier counter, and immediately understood what Cai Dong's eyes were looking at just now.

"Sorry, I got the wrong one."

After saying that, Sussanti put the beer back, thought about it for a moment on the refrigerator, and bought another bottle of Coke.

"The total is thirty-three yuan."

Cai Dong was in a pretty good mood. He hummed briskly, took out a plastic bag from the counter, and put all the things Susanti bought into it.

Susandi also quickly paid the money and took the bag from Cai Dong.

Probably because the person in front of her looked too much like the person she knew well, Cai Dong couldn't help but tell her, "It's better to drink less drinks."

Hearing what Caidong said, Sussanti's hands paused for a moment, then returned to normal the next second.

"good."

"Hey, you're welcome..."

Under Susanti's closing the door, Cai Dong's voice became quieter, until the sound finally disappeared.

As soon as the glass door of the store closed, Susandhi's world began to become noisy.

Summer cicadas are chirping, and from time to time there is a cool breeze blowing from the lake not far away, bringing a bit of coolness to the sultry night.

It was now past eight-thirty, ten or twenty minutes after she returned to 2016, but she felt no discomfort at all and was carrying her bag and planning to take a walk home.

The word "go home" has obviously been deeply imprinted on her mind in her memory. Now, as soon as she accepted the message of "go home", her hands and feet unconsciously led her to her previous residence.

In this way, when Susandi was in a familiar neighborhood, she realized that going home had become an instinctive consciousness.

Thinking of returning to this home, she couldn't help but stop where she was and look at the brightly lit place.

The place was only on the fifth floor. Looking from the bottom up, she could see the faintly floating gauze curtains in the window and the approaching figure.

Oops.

Sussanti's heart froze, and she immediately ran to the corner next to her in a panic, trying to cover her with the shape of a building.

She was certain that the person standing in front of the window was her former self.

How could it be?

Susandi thought about it, but found that everything had traces, such as Cai Dong.

If Cai Dong didn't recognize her just now, she could express her understanding, but now, she saw exactly the same version of herself, and suddenly understood Cai Dong's previous behavior.

It's not that he doesn't know her, but there is already Su Wangjun in this world, and there will never be another one.

From this point of view, there are still many uncertainties in the time machine, but no one told her that she would meet another self.

If I hadn't discovered it in advance, I might have caused unnecessary trouble.

I don't know how much time passed. Looking at the crowds coming and going, Sussanti knew that it was not suitable to stay here for a long time. He lowered his head in frustration, then turned around and walked in the direction he had just come from.

Su Santi now lives in a community opposite Caidong's convenience store, so she quickly found her original location based on her memory.

The place where she lives now is on the twenty-third floor. She is not the only one who lives on that floor, but there is also another family.

Knowing that it was getting late, Susandi did not go over to say hello, but opened the door of his home.

The appearance of the home was no different from the arrangement in the space-time machine. Sussanti quickly found the air conditioner and turned it on smoothly, blowing it for a while before blowing away the heat from his body.

Summer in the south seems to have always been like this. She only went out for a few minutes and her sweat soaked part of her clothes.

Sussanti was not in a hurry, so he sat on the sofa, opened the Coke can with one hand, and drank it in one gulp.

The soda-flavored drink started from the throat and went straight to the nose, making Sussanti couldn't help but frown.

She never liked these sweets, especially when she had something on her mind. Sweets would only make her feel tired. Instead, she felt that the bitterness in beer was the taste of her life.

Why on earth did you become like this?

Susandi thought deeply, even her memory began to think about it, and her eyes became sharp.

She was very aware of the suffering she had suffered. If it hadn't been for that incident, she wouldn't have changed so much now. In the final analysis, it was still the inner knot that was at play.

It seems that after all these years, she still hasn't been able to let go of everything.

Thinking of this, Su Sandy stopped worrying about this matter, but carefully sorted out all the things she had now.

In fact, long before she returned here, the man told her that he had helped her take care of her identity in this world, and she could use it at any time if she wanted. This made her inadvertently cast her eyes on the coffee table.

There were a lot of things on the coffee table, but Susandi still found what he wanted to see at a glance.

What the man is talking about is a machine that can produce any information, including her information.

Now that there is a Su Wangjun, she should be herself.

It is no exaggeration to say that Susandi is a real careerist.

Since you can go back to the past, why not try to change?

With this thought, she had no way out.

Holding the information in her hands, Susandi rubbed her temples, constantly alerting herself.
