Chapter 184: The Wind Blows the Flags

After three months.

Gaocheng, the Zhu family's residence.

In the living room, Zhu Tonghua, the head of the Zhu family, kept pacing back and forth and looking out of the courtyard from time to time.

The reason why he was so panicked was because today was a crucial day for his eldest son Zhu Ganglie and even the entire family.

In Gaocheng, in addition to the Pure Land Temple, there are also many gentry and wealthy families composed of blood relatives of Buddhist practitioners.

Among them, the Gao family and the Zhu family are especially the leaders.

The Gao family and the Zhu family have always been on good terms, and their descendants have been married for generations.

But there is no eternal dynasty in the world.

When the Zhu family reached Zhu Tonghua's generation, there were no more foundation-building Buddhist cultivators, which led to the decline of the family fortunes, and they soon fell from a wealthy family to a poor family.

But fortunately, when the elders of the Zhu family were still alive, they had already considered this situation.

So sixteen years ago, the two elders agreed to marry the eldest son Zhu Tonghua to the unborn eldest daughter of the Gao family.

Now the sixteen-year period has arrived.

Zhu Tonghua's eldest son, Zhu Ganglie, is eighteen years old, and Gao Lan, the eldest daughter of the Gao family, is also twenty-eight years old.

According to the agreement, today is the day when Zhu Ganglie goes to the Gao family to propose marriage.

Once the Zhu and Gao families get married, with the resources provided by the Gao family, Zhu Tonghua has full confidence in cultivating the foundation-building Buddhist cultivators from the descendants of the Zhu family.

By then, the Zhu family will surely be able to regain its former glory.

In the hall.

Seeing that his eldest son Zhu Ganglie had not returned for a long time, Zhu Tonghua couldn't help but feel a little anxious.

He rushed to the housekeeper beside him and said, "Uncle Fu, Gang Lie will be fine, right? Why don't you take someone to the Zhu family to have a look?"

"Okay."

After Uncle Fu responded, he comforted him: "Master, please relax. Although the eldest young master is a bit dull, he always handles things steadily. In addition, this marriage between the Zhu and Gao families is also a marriage contract made by our ancestors.

You can’t regret it, so there shouldn’t be any surprises.”

Due to the decline of his family, the Zhu family now only has eight servants working in the house.

Four of them were temporarily hired because Zhu Ganglie was getting married soon.

Uncle Fu called two of them who were decent-looking enough to go up to the table, and wanted to go out to inquire about the situation.

But before Uncle Fu could walk out of the house, he saw Zhu Ganglie returning from outside the house with a large number of marriage proposal teams.

Looking at the neighbors following Zhu Ganglie and the idle people in the city who were planning to ask for some happy money, Zhu Tonghua knew that most of the matter was already done.

He smiled and said: "My son, how is the situation?"

Zhu Ganglie's face was full of joy and he said: "The Gao family has already accepted the betrothal gift, and also gave me Miss Gao's birthday and horoscope. Let us choose a good and auspicious day. This matter is considered done!"

In fact, the reason why Zhu Ganglie was so happy was not just because he could revitalize the family after marrying the Gao family.

More importantly, Zhu Ganglie and the eldest daughter of the Gao family were childhood sweethearts, and they had been in love since childhood.

The two have loved each other for a long time and have a very good relationship.

In addition, the ancestors of both parties had already made a marriage contract, so the two had close contact on weekdays, and their parents had no objection.

Now, it can be said that the lovers are finally married...

At the same time.

Gaocheng, the main hall of Pure Land Temple.

Mu De sat cross-legged on the main seat, looked around the monks, and saw that the elders and disciples had all arrived, so he nodded with great satisfaction.

Then, he looked at the lay disciples in the distance, frowned and said: "Today we are discussing Buddhism, how come we don't see Wu being present?"

In the team of lay disciples.

A book boy walked out of the queue and said respectfully to Mu De: "To the abbot, today is the day when my young master and Miss Gao's family are engaged. This is an engagement made by our ancestors and cannot be rejected."

"good!"

Abbot Mu De nodded, said no more, and said to the monks: "Then let's get started... This time on Buddhism, Elder Xuanzang will give the lecture."

"Amitabha."

Xuanzang walked out of the queue and took out a volume of "Avalokitesvara Heart Sutra" from his storage bag, saying: "A few months ago, a poor monk came across a book of Sutra in Guanyin Temple, and he was impressed by it..."

After that, he recited the content of this sutra: "Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva has been practicing the deep Prajnaparamita for a long time..."

Follow the rules of the Pure Land Temple.

After the lecture by the elders in the temple is over, the abbot or a respected elder will propose a topic, and the monks will discuss it.

This is called ‘On Buddhism’.

It aims to deepen Buddhist practitioners' understanding of "Buddha" in order to reach a higher level of cultivation.

In the main hall.

Mu De, who was about to ask a question, looked at the wind flags outside the palace.

He suddenly felt blessed and said in his heart: "Everyone, there is a flag blowing in the wind outside the hall, so is it the wind or the flag?"

If you answer this kind of Buddhist question, "It was the wind that blew the flags," you will definitely be ridiculed by everyone for not having Buddha nature.

Therefore, the question asked by Abbot Mu De seems to be "the wind blows and the flags move", but it cannot be answered so simply.

In the ranks of monks.

A wise young monk stood up and said: "Of course the flags are moving, because 'when the flags move, we know the wind is blowing.' If there are no wind flags, how can we know the wind is blowing?"

"That makes sense, the flag is indeed moving!"

As soon as these words came out, everyone praised the young monk for his wisdom.

But Abbot Mu De only smiled and said nothing.

Lean less.

Suddenly, Xuanzang saw Xuanzang clasping his hands in the elder's seat and saying, "It's not the flags that move, it's not the wind that moves. The heart of a benevolent person moves."

After the monks tasted it carefully, some couldn't help but praise it.

"good!"

"As expected of Elder Xuanzang, his Buddha-nature is truly astonishing!"

It's not hard to see.

Compared with the young monk's previous answer, Xuanzang's explanation is obviously better.

After Xuanzang's suggestion, all the monks in the temple were talking about it, discussing their own insights and experiences with each other.

I have to say that this Pure Land Temple is indeed a holy place for Buddhist practitioners with a strong Buddhist atmosphere.

However, despite the discussion among the monks, no one has been able to truly understand the saying that "the heart of a benevolent person is moved".

Everyone felt that Xuanzang's answer was clever and in line with Buddhist principles.

However, the reason why it is so clever has never been explained.

After a brief silence.

Abbot Mu De looked at Su Xing, who was practicing Yun Gong, and said in a respectful tone: "I wonder what the monk has to say about 'the wind blows and the flags move'?"

After all, Su Xing is Su Xing.

As soon as Mu De said this, all the monks and lay disciples in the hall turned their attention to Su Xing.

The latter smiled, took out a dagger and drew a circle on the ground, saying: "This circle is like the universe that includes everything in the world."

???

The monks were stunned when they heard this, not knowing what Su Xing meant.

After Su Xing finished drawing the circle, he drew a small circle inside it and said, "This small circle is like the longevity star where we are."

Su Xing continued: "All the Buddhist cultivators in the Foundation Establishment period are capable of flying with weapons. I think someone must have discovered that the planet we are on is a sphere."

When Su Xing said this, Abbot Mu De of Pure Land Temple and several other foundation-building elders all nodded in agreement.
