Chapter 27 Shelter from the Rain

The little girl in the car, maybe tired, stuck her head and looked outside.

Jiuli was sitting in the shed, with a fire lit under the pot and stove. The fragrant tea was steaming with a hint of heat, and it also had the fragrance of herbs. It smelled refreshing and lifted the spirit.

Jiuli washed the tea with her hands and feet neatly. There was a plate of candies and snacks next to it. Seeing this scene of fireworks in the mountains made people feel like they were home.

The little girl swallowed hard, shook her grandfather's arm and said, "Grandpa, I'm tired. Do we have to take shelter from the rain to rest?"

The grandfather was probably tired from looking at the little girl and was about to speak.

"Are you tired?" The coachman stopped in the driveway, "If you're tired, take a rest. I'll definitely make it to the bottom of the mountain before dark."

The carriage stopped in front of Jiuli's shed. The grandfather and grandson got out of the carriage.

The driver led the horse and tied it to the hitching post on the side.

This is an open space. There are not only sheds, but also a lot of horse tethering posts at the door. It is easy to just chisel a big stone with holes. They are all made by Jiuli.

The coachman followed closely. Stepping into the shed, the coachman emphasized, "We are resting here when we are tired, not because it is about to rain. We are not here to take shelter from the rain."

Jiuli didn't speak, just sat there slowly drinking her tea.

The grandfather and grandson sat down, opposite Jiuli.

The little girl looked at the snacks on the plate next to her and leaned on her grandfather's shoulder coquettishly.

Grandpa turned his head and signaled to the coachman, "Go to the car and take out our snacks. Zhenzhen is hungry."

The coachman quickly stood up and walked towards the carriage.

The little girl named Zhenzhen shook her head vigorously and said, "I don't want to eat, I want to eat what my sister has." She said, pointing to the snacks on the plate next to Jiuli.

Jiuli smiled and glanced at the grandfather. He was in his fifties, very energetic, and his eyes that could see through the world exuded a shrewd light. At first glance, he looked like he was not from the mountains.

It's not like the coachman's eyes are dull, straight, and naive, and he seems to accept death at first glance.

The grandfather did not reject it.

Jiuli moved the plate next to the little girl and said, "Eat."

The little girl was very happy and ate them after catching two.

The grandfather stared at Jiuli with grateful eyes, especially the eye-catching birthmark on her face. He paid special attention to it. If other girls had scars or birthmarks on their faces, they would cover them up. Or they would have hair.

Wear gauze, or decorate your face with some flowers.

But the girl in front of me didn't.

She didn't seem to mind the flaws on her face at all. She just sat there calmly. Although she was wearing patched clothes, she was not shabby at all.

The white and brown clothes that had been washed long ago exuded a floral fragrance of mountain grass. It was simply incomparable with the vulgar rouge and gouache in the world.

From a distance, she looks ugly.

But sitting opposite her, watching her smoothly perform a series of tea-drinking movements, I felt as if some fairy had fallen here.

Behind her were the herbs, and it looked like she had picked them. Her hands were covered with calluses and cracks, and they were hands that had been laboring for many years. But she didn't look like she was ordinary at all.

"Isn't the girl a local?" the grandfather suddenly spoke. He looked at Jiuli with doubtful eyes.

Jiuli said nothing and concentrated on preparing the tea in her hand.
