Chapter 5 It’s night
The round fan covered her eyes for half a day, and she was really suffocated.
However, she had just rearranged the arrangement. Next to the palace attendant who was speaking, there seemed to be an older aunt who came over and said, "I'm afraid His Royal Highness has some political affairs and will be delayed for a while. I will serve the Crown Princess for some meals first."
With that said, she took the round fan from Yun Zhao's hand and took Yun Zhao to sit down at the mahogany table a few steps ahead.
Because the look on her face was the first kind and gentle one Yun Zhao saw when he came here, Yun Zhao forgot to refuse for a moment.
"The Crown Princess can just call me Aunt Qiu." Qiu Yue waved, signaling Su Xi to come over, "Come and serve the Crown Princess for dinner."
The palace man who had just spoken looked embarrassed at this moment, but he didn't have the courage to say anything. He just shrank silently to the side, for fear of being noticed by Qiuyue.
During this period, Qiuyue was worried that Yun Zhao was not used to being watched, so she asked more than a dozen palace people around to go down, and then accompanied her to explain several times, saying that His Highness the Crown Prince was very busy these days, and before today, he often did not finish his work until midnight
.
Xiao Changyin couldn't come, and Yun Zhao breathed a sigh of relief. Her mood when facing Xiao Changyin was actually not as calm as she thought.
After dinner, Qiuyue checked the time, cut out the candles, and put down the curtain.
Through the thin curtain, Yun Zhao seemed to see the bright white moonlight falling on the ground. She opened her eyes, thinking that she would not be able to sleep, but it didn't take long for her eyelids to feel heavy.
In the haziness, she seemed to hear the sound of the bamboo flute, a familiar melody, a leisurely and reassuring feeling, gradually drifting into her dreams, taking her away from this lonely place and bringing her home.
In the middle of the night, Qiuyue, who was guarding the door, brought a cup of strong tea to Suxi. The older Aunt Zhao couldn't bear it, so Qiuyue sent someone to rest, while she and Suxi watched on the left and right.
After a while, there was a noise outside, and the two of them looked over.
Qiu Yue frowned as she saw Xiao Changyin with an unkind look on his face, followed by a close servant.
His Royal Highness does not look like he came here voluntarily.
So when Xiao Changyin went in, Qiuyue held down Su Xi who was getting angry, pulled the waiter aside and asked, "What's going on?"
The chamberlain's name was Mu Yi. He said with a bitter look on his face, "Aunt Qiu, originally His Highness was handling political affairs in the study. Later... His Majesty sent someone over and reprimanded His Highness, so..."
Qiu Yue understood clearly that the Crown Prince's coming here was equivalent to being forced here by His Majesty.
Thinking of this, she became worried.
In the hall, Xiao Changyin walked to the bed in a few steps. His steps were light and he almost made no sound.
At this moment, he raised his hand to lift the curtain, and his eyes were fixed on her.
In fact, this daze only lasted for a few moments. Xiao Changyin slowly sat down, pressed his fingers on the back of her neck, and then confidently picked up the tea cup on the side and smashed it on the ground with all his strength.
Su Xi was startled at the door and rushed in, but was stopped by Qiu Yue.
Qiuyue stepped forward and said tentatively, "Your Highness?"
It seemed to be quiet inside, and a man's voice sounded impatient, "You're not allowed in."
Qiuyue hesitated for a moment and did not step forward again.
The disgust and coldness he showed when there were other people around him were different. At this time, his eyes were surprisingly affectionate.
"Zhaozhao." He pinched her fingertips, put it to his lips and touched her gently, holding her in his arms with Xu Xu who cherished her very much.
He stayed awake in the middle of the night, looking at her as if he couldn't get enough of her.
For him, it was God's mercy; for him, it was lost and found again.
Early the next morning, before Yun Zhao woke up, the broken porcelain pieces on the ground had been cleaned up, and Xiao Changyin had naturally left long ago.
She had just woken up and her eyes were still dazed.
But soon, she came to her senses after seeing that Su Xi, who was closest to her, was wearing the clothes of a member of the Northern Xiao Palace.
While having breakfast, Qiuyue carefully explained to Yun Zhao, "His Royal Highness the Crown Prince has been busy recently and often has troubles. If your words are inappropriate, please don't take it to heart."
Qiuyue was referring to what happened last night. After all, it was so noisy that she wanted to throw a cup.
Yun Zhao actually didn't know about this. She didn't even know that Xiao Changyin had been here last night, so she nodded and said, "Don't worry, Aunt Qiu, I don't care."
Qiuyue felt that this answer seemed wrong, but she didn't react.
After resting for a quarter of an hour after breakfast, Yun Zhao went to pay his respects to the queen.
In Yongning Palace, the queen sat down against the window, with a piece of paper in her hand filled with words.
She took a brief look at it and asked someone to put it aside.
"I'd better take these dirty things and burn them," said Aunt Feng, who was close to her.
The queen looked out the window blankly, but shook her head.
"No need, I have never seen so many dirty things."
"Besides, isn't this exactly what he wanted me to see?"
Aunt Feng sighed silently and wanted to persuade her, but the Queen said, "Go and put out some sweet snacks and replace the tea with milk. I remember that the Crown Princess is still young."
Just as he was talking, Yun Zhao had already arrived at the door and asked the queen for her greetings first.
"Get up and sit here." The queen pointed to the opposite position and pushed the snacks at hand over. Then she glanced at Nanny Feng and motioned for her to take the people down.
When only the two of them were left around, the queen looked at the girl in front of her with a complicated expression. When Yun Zhao looked up, she quickly put aside these complications.
She took out a wooden box from one side and opened it. Inside was a pair of fine jade rings.
There is no trace of impurities in the whole body, it is very transparent, even the clear tea next to it is incomparable.
"This is Ming..." The queen paused and continued, "This is a pair of jade rings I got in my early years. They match you exactly."
Without waiting for Yun Zhao to speak, the queen took out the jade rings, put them on Yun Zhao's hands one on the left and one on the right, and praised her a few more times.
"The dining room doesn't often make these snacks. Can you try it? Does it taste good?"
"If it feels bad, I'll ask them to adjust the taste."
These words and actions stunned Yun Zhao. She knew that the queen was Xiao Changyin's biological mother, so she never thought that they would be like this if they really got along with her.
The queen seemed to have guessed what she was thinking, but did not explain her confusion. Instead, she chuckled and said, "This milk has honey added to it. You little girls like to drink it the most."
The queen was right. Yun Zhao really loved sweets. When she was young, she often had to fight with her father, the emperor, and her queen for a few sweets. If she couldn't win, she would cry and go to her grandfather, and she could get anything.
.
But now, she may never see them again in her life.
Milk with honey is sweet, but it tastes bitter.
"Mother," she muttered, not knowing whether she was addressing the queen in front of her or remembering her own mother, "I think these pastries taste very good."
