Chapter 39 You are drunk
After hearing Yu Ying's answer, Jiang Miao broke off three more courgettes and took them to the kitchen together with other vegetables.
I made a cold courgette, an eggplant, melon, cowpeas and peppers. I saw three eggs in the cabinet in the kitchen, so I took two out and fried them with wild vegetables. They were not big dishes, but they were very good for rice.
Today was lunch for four adults. Jiang Miao cooked some more rice. Dabao and Xiaobao's rice cereal was also cooked on the side. He mixed the remaining egg in a bowl and planned to make an egg custard for them.
.
I’ve finished all the eggs at home, and it looks like I’ll need to buy some more when I go out tomorrow.
However, Jiang Miao thinks that it would be much more cost-effective to raise a few chickens at home to lay eggs during normal times and make soup when they are old.
After finishing the dishes, Jiang Miao added more firewood to the stove and walked out of the stove.
The weather is hot now. If you stay in the kitchen for a long time, you will faint from the heat.
Yu Ying finished hoeing, took Dabao and Xiaobao into the house to enjoy the cool air, and soon came over to help light the fire.
"Miao Yatou, you go inside and drink some water to cool down. I'll just watch the fire."
Jiang Miao nodded and brought the dishes to the front. Cheng Huai and Master Zhang were still sawing wood and were sweating profusely.
"Mom, Dabao is hungry." He threw the wooden toy aside and Dabao ran over.
Xiaobao touched his belly, then ran to Jiang Miao and hugged her thigh, looking up at her.
Jiang Miao touched her head and scratched the little knots on their heads with her fingers, "Go and bring your little stool over."
Dabao and Xiaobao immediately went to find a stool.
Watching them finish eating the soup and egg custard, Yu Ying brought the cooked rice over from the backyard.
Jiang Miao went to call Cheng Huai and Master Zhang to have dinner.
"Master Zhang, would you like some wine?" Yu Ying greeted with a smile on her face, and even went to the wine jar to scoop out a bowl of wine.
Master Zhang nodded, informally, "It's a rice bar? You can have some drinks."
Yu Ying took another bowl and poured a third of it into it, and handed it to Master Zhang, "I brewed this wine half a month ago, and it's still sweet."
There was water on the side, so Master Zhang poured it directly into the bowl, filled it up with wine, and said with a smile: "Drinking a little wine is the most comfortable thing in this weather!"
Yu Ying also nodded in agreement: "Yes, wine quenches thirst better than water and is more comfortable to drink."
With that said, he also poured some for Cheng Huai.
Jiang Miao watched helplessly, realizing that she had no part in it, so she could only turn her attention to Cheng Huai.
When a rough man drinks, he doesn't take big gulps like when he drinks water. Instead, he takes a sip slowly and then continues to eat.
Realizing that Jiang Miao had been looking at his wine bowl, Cheng Huai pursed his lower lip and handed it to her, "Don't drink too much."
It's not like Jiang Miao has never drank before. She occasionally drinks some at dinner parties, but she doesn't think she will get drunk after just one sip.
She didn't mind that Cheng Huai had drunk it, so she took two sips from the other end of the bowl. The clear wine had a sweet aftertaste.
"The wine made by my mother is so sweet." She narrowed her eyes with satisfaction and praised sweetly.
Jiang Miao wanted to drink more, but Cheng Huai took the wine bowl back with an expressionless expression and finished it in two big gulps.
After eating and resting for a while, Cheng Huai and Master Zhang went to work again.
Jiang Miao and Yu Ying cleaned up the dishes together and took their two children into the house to take a nap.
The sound of sawing wood continued outside, but it didn't seem noisy at all. The two children fell asleep after playing for a while.
After sewing some clothes with Yu Ying, Jiang Miao felt her head was dizzy, so she went back to the house to sleep.
She slept until dusk. When she woke up, she was startled by Cheng Huai's stern face.
Facing the stunned expression of his young daughter-in-law, Cheng Huai bent down and stretched out his arms to hug her and sit up, then sat down and looked at her.
Jiang Miao woke up and looked at the sky outside. She felt something was wrong, "Did I oversleep?"
The man's dark eyes looked at her steadily, and he was silent for a moment before slowly speaking: "You are drunk."
He just called her and she didn't wake up for a long time, thinking something was wrong with her.
Jiang Miao suddenly felt a little embarrassed, "I won't drink anymore." She really didn't expect that she would get drunk after just two sips of wine, which was mixed with water.
Everyone was working outside, but she was sleeping soundly inside the house, and she was too embarrassed to go out.
Jiang Miao hurriedly got out of bed and put on her shoes, and found that after one afternoon, the bed boards were almost finished and piled on the ground.
Seeing Jiang Miao come out of the house, Dabao and Xiaobao, who were sitting on the ground playing, got up and ran towards her, "Mom!"
"Mom, sleep soundly," Dabao said in a crisp and authentic voice.
Xiaobao hugged Jiang Miao's legs with a naive look on his face and said nothing.
Jiang Miao suddenly realized something, "Did you all go call your mother just now?"
"Well, if dad doesn't let me, Dabao yells!" Dabao complained, clenching his fists.
Xiaobao also looked indignant, with a sullen face, "Dad, you are fierce!"
Jiang Miao didn't know whether to laugh or cry, so she hugged them and patted their butts, "Your father just wants your mother to sleep more. He didn't mean to hurt you, so don't be angry with him."
"Well, Dabao is not angry." Cheng Dabao nodded generously.
Xiaobao also nodded and twisted his butt, "I'm not angry."
The two cubs were coaxed instantly. Cheng Huai stood behind and listened for a while, with the corners of his lips raised unconsciously.
Jiang Miao took the two children to the backyard, and Cheng Huai went to the mountain to fill the water. He did not come back until dinner was ready.
He also grabbed a handful of dates in his hand, and when Jiang Miao came over, he stuffed them all into her hand.
The dates were still warm. I don’t know if it was the warmth of the man’s hands or the heat from the sun that hadn’t dissipated yet.
He washed the ginger seedlings and ate them with Yu Ying, and grabbed a few more for Cheng Huai to eat.
The dates are all red now, but they may get old and fall off in a while, so it would be a pity to waste them.
"Cheng Huai, let's pick all the dates tomorrow and dry them in the sun to make soup," she suggested.
Yu Ying nodded at the side, "You can pick them now. When the time comes, dry them and keep some at home. The others can be sold. I heard that drug stores also accept these things."
"Okay." After eating the dates, Cheng Huai went to the backyard and brought in the dried straw mat quilt, which was not wet this time.
When Yu Ying saw it, she immediately patted her thigh.
Damn it, I forgot to splash the water!
After dinner, eating and washing, it was time to go to bed again.
Cheng Huai applied medicine to the ginger seedlings as usual, then carried the straw mat and quilt placed by the wall over and spread them on the ground.
Jiang Miao lay down beside the bed and took a look. The rough man had already blown out the candle and lay down quietly.
She was quite happy to suddenly have the entire bed again, at least it wasn't crowded anymore.
Jiang Miao pulled the quilt over her body and slept with her hands and feet spread out. She felt comfortable, but a deep sleepiness came over her. When she was about to fall asleep, she suddenly opened her eyes again.
Always feel like something is missing?
After rolling on the bed for a while, Jiang Miao sat up and looked at the man on the ground who had fallen asleep.
