Chapter 231 Investigating the Basement

I followed Luo Feng and another police officer, and the three of us entered the basement of the seaside villa.

Using the light from the flashlight, we soon discovered a very strange thing in the middle of the basement.

This thing is completely different from what I imagined. If I have to say it is a sculpture, I can barely do it.

Because the entire space, the floor and the surrounding walls are very clean without any garbage.

Only in the middle of the floor was such a strange item placed improperly, so Luo Feng and I immediately focused our attention on it.

Here, it is necessary for me to describe in detail what this is?

This thing is quite tall. From a visual inspection, it's about 1.6 meters tall at least.

Judging from the shape, it looks a bit like a gray-black bowling ball. To be more precise, it is the shape of an elongated bowling ball.

It looks extremely rough on the outside, and the texture does look like ordinary stone.

Luo Feng raised his finger and tapped it twice, and immediately made two crisp sounds, which sounded like stones.

I also tapped it twice with my nails, but after using it myself, I felt that there was some vibrato in the sound.

What does it mean?

What I mean is, this thing is probably hollow.

However, judging from the sound, the internal hollowness is not particularly large.

The flashlight was now in Luo Feng's hand, so I had no choice but to take out my phone and turn on the flashlight function, and looked up, down, left, left, and right at the sculpture for a long time.

While observing, I also took a lot of photos and recorded videos.

After all, the basement is empty and there are no other furnishings to focus on, so we can only study this thing first.

After careful observation, I made many new discoveries...

Let’s start with the top, which can also be said to be the top of the bowling ball. It is a round shape the size of a football, and it does look a bit like a head.

But it definitely doesn't look like a human head or a human face. It does look like a monster's face.

The facial features of that face are not clear. I don’t know if the carving technique is poor or if they are worn away. I can only see the outline of the facial features, but no detailed parts.

For example, the raised areas such as ears, nose and open lips seem to have been smoothed away, so the head looks very strange.

When I first saw this strange face, it reminded me of Ba, the running boy in the TV series Journey to the West. Yes, it does look a lot like that face.

Why is it said to look like a water monster?

Because not only does he have no nose, but his entire head also has a layer of small holes that look like scales.

These small holes look like they were drilled one by one with a drill, and they are arranged very regularly. People with trypophobia may not be able to bear to look directly at them.

Because I don’t know what this thing is or whether it is poisonous, Luo Feng didn’t let me touch it with my hands, so I couldn’t feel what role those small holes could play.

The most delicate part of the sculpture is only the head. There is nothing special about the lower part, which is just an oval shape with a wide bottom and a narrow top.

The last thing worth mentioning is that there is a groove at the bottom near the ground.

As for the purpose of the groove under the sculpture, it is still unclear.

At this time...

The police officer who came in with us called out in a low voice: "Commander Luo, there is a switch here. Is there lighting equipment in the basement? Do you want to turn it on and try it?"

Luo Feng walked over quickly, and then he said to me: "Ma Jun, stay away from that sculpture. I'll close the switch and see if there is electricity..."

I quickly retreated to Luo Feng. When Luo Feng closed the gate box, for a moment, the entire basement flickered for a few seconds, and then lit up.

I really didn’t expect that!

There are so many light bulbs installed in this basement that they can illuminate the entire space without any blind spots.

There was no need for the flashlight now, so Luo Feng returned it to me.

Although there are many light bulbs installed here, they are all very old orange tungsten light bulbs, just like the light bulbs used in the 1980s and 1990s. The light is warm yellow, similar to today's LEDs.

The brightness of incandescent lamps is completely incomparable.

Although it is not particularly transparent, it is still much better than using a flashlight.

When the entire basement was illuminated, the sense of mystery and terror in the basement was immediately reduced by 99%.

Since everything can be seen clearly, it seems that there is no need to investigate here.

Because except for the strange sculpture standing in the middle, there are almost no other clutter, and the interior is still very clean.

Luo Feng wanted to go up, but I didn't want to leave, because there were still many pictures in frames on the wall, and I hadn't looked carefully yet?

Now that we have light, wouldn't it be possible to observe and understand it?

After all, Luo Feng was not an artist, and he didn't seem to be very interested in artworks, so he went out to smoke with another police officer.

I was left alone in the basement, and I started to use my phone to take photos of the paintings on the wall one by one.

Before talking about the paintings in the frames, let me first talk about the walls here. As I saw above, they are indeed covered with a thick layer of wallpaper.

I don’t know the original color of the wallpaper, but now I see it under the dim light and it’s a yellow-green color with some small bluish-white flowers on it.

Generally in foreign horror films, this kind of wallpaper is very common.

At that time, I guessed in my mind that the owner who originally built this villa on the beach was probably a foreigner.

After observing the wallpaper, I began to focus on each picture frame on the wall. The picture frames were different in size, but none of them were very big, and the largest one did not exceed the size of A3.

Most of the pictures are embedded in the frame with a photo, including landscapes and people. A few of them are text pictures, and the text is all in English.

Seeing this, I guessed that the first owner of the villa was a foreigner, and it seems that I was right again.

At this time, Luo Feng had finished smoking one cigarette. He urged me at the door and said: "If you find nothing, just go up. I have other cases to be busy with in the afternoon..."

Originally, I wanted to take a closer look at the art exhibition, but he kept urging me, so I had to quickly take photos of all the hanging paintings, and then left the cellar with Luo Feng.

Luo Feng asked his colleagues from the police station to temporarily seal the entrance to the cellar, and then we returned to the villa.

Although this case is very strange, it is not an ordinary acute case, and nothing actual has been found. If you want to conduct an investigation, you can only investigate it as an old case.

As for the sculpture in the basement of this villa, no matter how strange it is, it is just a dead object and can only be regarded as an alternative collection. The police cannot interfere with the owner's collecting taste, right?

Luo Feng asked people to take away the cameras and video tapes, and also asked Bai Xue to use tweezers to collect the pieces of the black cat on the ground and a section of its tail, and put them into a plastic evidence bag to take back.

Do tests.

Ermiao and I can't leave the beach with Luo Feng and the others because the task of trying to sleep has not been completed. I have to stay here for one night and the task will be completed tomorrow.

Luo Feng felt that although this villa was a bit weird, it wasn't dangerous, so he didn't force me.

So, Ermiao and I continued to stay in the villa, while Luo Feng and Bai Xue returned to the city bureau with the video tape and the black cat's body.

After watching everyone leave, Ermiao and I stood in the lobby of the villa and looked at each other...
