Chapter 98 The Duke of Devonshire
Before the holiday in Hogwarts began and after the final dinner, Dumbledore called Sherlock alone to the office.
He took out a letter from the drawer and handed it to Sherlock.
"If you have nothing to do during the summer vacation, you can visit an old friend of mine in France and he will give you something."
Sherlock took the letter curiously and saw the friend's name as Dumbledore said on the envelope.
"Nick Lemay, is this... the alchemist who created the Philosopher's Stone?" he spoke in surprise.
Dumbledore was not surprised that Sherlock had heard of Nicklemay's name. His friend's reputation in the magic world is no less than him.
"Yes, it's that Nick Lemay, but he has destroyed his Philosopher's Stone now and is planning to deal with the remaining Philosopher's Stone fragments that contain some magic. I plan to give them to some young people. This is a letter of introduction. If you are interested in this, you can visit him at the address above before August."
Stone fragments?
Sherlock blinked at the letter, and he thought it was still very interesting.
Although he has decided to go now, he will keep the letter first, and maybe when will he get interested?
After seeing him put away the letter, Dumbledore thought for a moment and continued.
"I remember where you live, not very far from Harry's aunt's house?"
Sherlock nodded.
"It's a coincidence that it's only two streets away."
Dumbledore pulled out a piece of parchment from the desk, wrote something on it, stuffed it into an envelope, and handed it to Sherlock again.
"If you decide to go find Nick during the summer vacation, take Harry with you as well. Then you can hand over the letter to his aunt, and she will let Harry leave with you."
Sherlock took the letter unexpectedly.
"You're not worried, what accident happened to Harry halfway with me?"
"Protecting your students is the most basic responsibility of teachers." Dumbledore blinked and said with a smile, "Isn't it?"
"Okay, you're right. If I'm going to go, I'll take care of Harry's safety." Sherlock made the promise.
"There is one more thing, you have to have the right to know." Dumbledore's expression became slightly serious. "At the next time school starts, you will still be a professor of defense, but I will hire you an assistant professor of defense."
Sherlock was slightly stunned and he asked.
"I don't mind you asking me for an assistant, but why do you want to ask me for it alone?"
Dumbledore shook his head helplessly.
"Because someone needs a job, Hogwarts has no suitable position this year, so I can only recruit him in as an assistant."
Sherlock nodded to express his understanding.
He carefully recalled the few plots he still remembered in his memory. The assistant professor Dumbledore recruited for him should be the professor of the third-grade Black Magic Defense class in Harry under the normal plot in the original work.
The day after talking to Dumbledore, Hogwarts' holiday officially began this semester.
Sherlock did not take the Hogwarts Express again this time and wasted that whole day to get home.
Instead, he used the Phantom Movement directly. He was still in Hogsmeade in the last second, and the next second, he had already flashed to his home in Devon.
Although the house has not been cleaned for nearly a year, it still looks very clean overall.
The Sherlock family does not have a house elf who usually handles housework, but most of the furniture in the house has been magically used. Even if he is not at home, the furniture can clean the room by himself.
So after he got home, he had nothing to be busy with. He just used a few cleaning spells for some supplies that had no self-cleaning ability, and then sat in the study.
"One year! A whole year! You haven't come back! Are you still like me, a mother, in your eyes! A bastard! You scum! You disgusting scum!"
In the study, there was still the sharp female voice constantly yelling, accusing, and denounced Sherlock the incomplete sinner.
But Sherlock didn't care, but quietly looked at the magical portrait of the original mother hanging on the wall, and opened his mouth to try to communicate with her.
"I've been to Hogwarts as a professor this year, so I haven't come back."
However, the witch's sarcasm sounded immediately.
"You are worthy! Which principal of the Magic School is blind and will recruit you in! You useless bastard! Trash! Waste!..."
After the attempt to communicate failed, Sherlock sighed, and a piece of red silk cloth on the table slowly flew out of thin air, hanging herself on the picture frame, covering the portrait of the original mother, making her shut up.
Then Sherlock did not take out his wand or chant a spell.
All the books on the bookshelf flew out of the bookshelf by themselves, flew lightly to him, and arranged and rotated neatly around him.
This is a magic that Sherlock learned without a teacher after the soul is successfully stitched.
His magic can interfere with reality in the most primitive form.
Including but not limited to moving objects, directing objects to complete uncomplex actions, simple deformation of objects, etc.
Simply put, it is somewhat similar to the weakened version of the state when you kill the snake monster.
The combat power is limited, but it is extremely convenient for daily use.
Sherlock picked one of the magic books that spun around him, and then the remaining books flew back to the bookshelf by themselves, arranged neatly in the previous order.
Sherlock's life when he returned home was also very monotonous.
He usually stayed in the study to study various magic, especially strengthened his practice of the patron spell.
In his vague memory, it seems that there will be dementors causing trouble in Hogwarts when the next semester is about to start.
Of course, he must step up his mastery of spells that are particularly effective for dementors, such as the Guardian Spell.
But this kind of mantra that requires extremely high emotions cannot be used just by practicing. All Sherlock does not force too much, as long as it can play a role at critical moments.
After staying at home for two weeks.
Sherlock finally walked out of the study, and he found the will agreement given to him by the old housekeeper from the original owner's father at this time last year.
It has been a whole year since he got the will agreement.
Because of going to Hogwarts to be a professor, Sherlock has never cared about it, but after constantly learning about the extraordinary nature of the original owner's parents in Hogwarts.
Sherlock felt that he was going to meet his cheap father who had never been masked this summer.
Through Slughorn's words, he could hear that the original owner's parents should have been inconsistent with the wizard at the beginning, and even agreed to Slughorn's godfather to be Sherlock's godfather.
Then why did the original owner's mother become like a crazy look in the portrait painting? The original owner's father dislikes the wizard without any concealment and forces his son to inherit his legacy only by staying away from the wizard?
Sherlock was very curious about the hidden truth.
He also specifically studied the status of the original owner's father's family in the Muggle world.
The Cavendish family, the hereditary Duke of Devon in the UK, has produced many scientists and politicians in normal history, and has a great influence in the British political circle.
But the world where Sherlock is now is of course different from the world in his previous life.
The Cavendish family still held the title of Duke of Devon, England, but after the 19th century, the family began to decline.
The key is that the heirs of direct descendants are scarce. Starting from Sherlock's grandfather generation, it has been a single lineage.
If you accidentally fail to give birth to a boy, the title will be replaced by Cavendish's side bloodline.
Until Sherlock's biological father's generation, he was already in a dilemma with no successor in the British Muggle world.
Sherlock's identity is very secretive, and no one knows that this generation of Duke of Devon actually has a son outside.
This shows how cruel Sherlock's father is. He is now ill in bed and obviously not long before he can survive. Sherlock is his only biological heir.
But if Sherlock does not guarantee that he will never contact the magic world, he would rather share his title and property with relatives from the side branch.
Sherlock didn't care much about the title of Duke of Devon and the property that normal people could never spend in their lifetimes.
For wizards who truly pursue and have ideals, these fame and fortune in the Muggle world are useless and are not as good as a useful magic note.
Sherlock felt that he was not as empty as all four elements, but he was also a wizard with aspirations. It doesn’t matter if he inherited his inheritance or something. The key was to find out why the original owner’s parents had such changes and clues that were very different.
So he decided to call the butler today and try to contact his cheap father.
The other end of the phone rang and was quickly connected. Before she could speak there, Sherlock said calmly.
"I'm Sherlock Forrest, I want to meet him."
It seemed that there was excitement and there was no sound for a while. After the thick breathing sound, an old voice trembled.
"Sorry, Master, I'll pick you up now."
Sherlock hung up the phone, hesitating for the first time meeting with the world's father. It was probably still in the hospital, whether he would bring some gifts over.
But after thinking about the stiff relationship between the original owner and his father, this idea was dispelled.
Just passing by empty-handedly is in line with the original owner's character.
Without letting him wait for a long time, a luxury car was parked there soon under his small building.
The old man sherlock had seen a year ago walked out of the car and was about to ring the doorbell when Sherlock walked out of the house by himself.
"Young Master."
Sherlock nodded slightly.
