Introduction

The village is very quiet at night. It is the beginning of summer, and when the chirping of cicadas disappears, the chirping of crickets emerges.

Oil lamps flickered in the dilapidated earth-tile house, and an elderly couple in their fifties sat busy at an old-fashioned wooden table that had almost lost its paint.

Under the dim light of the oil lamp, the small room looked even more dilapidated, as if it was an old house from the 1950s that had never been renovated.

There was a man sitting at the door, who looked to be in his twenties. He had a handsome face, but his aura gave people a weather-beaten look. He had a thick beard and long hair covering his ears. However, there was only a few traces of dirt on his angular face.

It looks very disproportionate, especially the long hair, which is as unkempt as a nest of grass.

The light rain was falling sparsely, and the yard paved with soil was already muddy.

The man's eyes were dull, looking coldly at the ripples caused by the raindrops in the puddles, his face bloodless.

But the light emitted by those eyes was as cold as ice, just like the ice under the thousand-year-old iceberg.

The two old men looked at him and shook their heads at the same time.

The old man said: "I say that our Xiaofeng has been stupid for more than a year. He has been to many big hospitals, but he just doesn't feel better! This really worries me to death!"

The old lady peeled off a peanut and stuffed it into her mouth, and replied: "I've been like this since I came back from the army last year. The doctor said there's nothing wrong with me, but I don't know why I'm so stupid. Alas!"

The old man thought of his second son and asked, "Where has Xiaoyong gone?"

Hearing Xiaoyong, the old lady smiled a little and said, "Xiaoyong! He and Shanshan are getting along just right! I met Shanshan's father a few days ago, and he agreed with me about taking care of the child."

The old man breathed a sigh of relief slowly and said: "As long as they don't think we are poor, that's fine! I think the nights are long and the dreams are many, so we have to prepare for their marriage as soon as possible, as early as possible!"

The old lady laughed: "Why do I think you are more anxious than the child? It's like you have to get a wife!"

The old man's face turned stern and he said angrily: "Damn it, the old guy who grew up with me and my naked buttocks all has grandsons in their arms, so I still can't even see a daughter-in-law."

The smile on the old lady's face gradually disappeared. He looked at the young man sitting at the door again and couldn't help but sigh.

The rules passed down from our ancestors, don’t even think about getting married if the eldest brother doesn’t get married!

The old man naturally understood what she was thinking and said, "Xiao Feng is now twenty-five, and it's time to get a wife."

The old lady nodded: "Then you can do the math and see whose girl is suitable for our Xiaofeng?"

The old man sighed again: "Oh! Based on her looks, we can count everyone in Xiaofeng from all over the country, but now everyone is stupid. Whose girl can be willing?"

The old lady blinked and said happily: "I think that big girl can do it!"

Da Niu is in this village, and the old man is very familiar with her. The girl is about the same age as Xiao Feng, but she has something wrong with her.

The old man immediately waved his hand and said: "When that girl was little, her mother used her hands to open her eyes in order to make her open them early. When she grew up, her eyes rolled up. That's not possible! How can we, Xiaofeng, look like this...

…”

Before he could finish speaking, the old lady interrupted and said, "What can be done about this? Isn't Xiaofeng stupid? Otherwise, who would be willing? Besides, we can't delay Xiaoyong too!"

The old man sighed and had no choice but to compromise. The old lady was right. It was the wish of the old couple to have their grandson as soon as possible. In this way, everyone would be happy.

He said: "Then let me ask Xiaofeng."

The old man shouted at Xiaofeng, and the young man stood up silently. His height of nearly 1.8 meters could almost block the door of the house. The upper body was wearing a yellowed T-shirt with many holes in it. The lower body was wearing loose jeans.

It was also full of mud, as if it had been rolled in the yard.

He walked over slowly and looked at the two elders doubtfully.

The old man said lovingly: "Xiao Feng! You are not young anymore. I have discussed with your mother and find you a daughter-in-law, okay?"

The young man's head immediately shook like a wavy drum, and the two old men looked at each other in confusion. He was unwilling to find a partner for him who had not yet been told.

The old man immediately straightened his face and said, "You can't tolerate your unwillingness! It's settled! I'll take you to Da Niu's house to propose marriage early tomorrow morning! Go to bed!"

The young man still had no expression on his face. He stumbled back to his room and fell down on the bed.

He smiled helplessly and said to himself that in the past year, everyone thought I was stupid, but who knew my Du Feng's difficulties?

It's okay for me to get married. At most, I will leave an offspring for my parents. If I leave, it will be regarded as my filial piety as a son. But that big girl not only has an eye problem but also has bad legs and feet. I get goosebumps when I think about the way she looks at me.

pimple.

Du Feng sighed softly, one year is enough time! According to my father's temper, he will definitely have to drag me there tomorrow, so why don't I just leave tonight and get it done.

On the other side of the partition wall was an old couple talking in extremely subtle voices, as if they were discussing what to buy tomorrow.

Finally there was no movement, and the wall clock rang nine. The two old men went to bed very early, falling asleep at just nine o'clock every day. It was an old habit for decades.

Du Feng got up lightly and took out two pieces of clothing from the wooden box under the moonlight. One was a T-shirt that had also been washed white. This piece of clothing was the only one without holes. The other was a fat one.

Du Feng put on the shorts without thinking.

Pulling out a handful of change from under the pillow, Du Feng sighed softly, knelt down on his knees and kowtowed three times in succession.
