Chapter 44 The envoy enters the city

South Korea, Xinzheng.

Located at the strategic location of the Central Plains, Xinzheng, which used to be prosperous and busy, has now fallen into a chilling atmosphere because of the war.

With tens of thousands of Wei troops stationed outside the city, South Korea had to close its four gates and be on strict alert to prevent its opponents from finding opportunities for sneak attacks.

On the city wall of Xinzheng, a Korean soldier in armor stood. Their eyes were fixed on the front, watching vigilantly for all the disturbances outside the city.

Suddenly, the unusual appearance of the Wei army camp outside the city attracted the attention of a Korean soldier.

"General, there are changes ahead!"

The shouts of this Korean soldier immediately attracted the attention of all the Korean soldiers above the city, and the Korean general he was shouting looked towards the outside of the city with some vigilance.

Looking at the Wei army troop slowly walking out of the camp outside the city and approaching little by little, alarm bells were ringing in the heart of this Korean general.

"Send the order, all soldiers prepare for battle!"

"Here."

Following this order from the Korean general, the originally peaceful city wall quickly became lively.

Waves of footsteps rang in everyone's ears, and before long all the Korean soldiers were on alert at their respective positions.

The sharp halberd was shining with dazzling light under the sunlight. In front of the crossbow pointing outside the city, there was a faint cold light.

With just one order, these Korean soldiers will directly enter a state of war.

However, just as the tension was rising at the head of Xinzheng City, the approaching Wei army slowly stopped, and a fast horse galloped out of the military formation.

As they approached, they heard the Wei knight shouting loudly toward the top of the city: "The envoy of Wei mistakenly followed the order of the Marquis of Wei and came to Xinzheng to meet the Marquis of Han."

Hearing the sound coming from outside the city, the Korean general breathed a sigh of relief, but there was no trace of slackness on his face.

After once again sizing up the Wei army outside the city and confirming that it had no intention or ability to attack the city, the Korean general gave a deep order to his soldiers.

"Command, all soldiers be on alert."

Then the Korean general turned his attention to a soldier beside him and said, "Go and report to your Majesty that there is an envoy from the Wei army outside the city asking to see you."

"Here."

After accepting the order, the Korean soldier quickly ran down the city wall. After a long time, he returned to the Korean general with the Han Hou's decision.

"General, I have an order from you to open the city gate and let the Wei envoys enter the city."

After receiving the order from Marquis Han, the Korean general looked forward, and the solemn look in his eyes became more and more obvious.

"The Marquis of Han has an order to invite the Wei envoy to enter the city."

Accompanied by a harsh sound of wood being squeezed, the city gate of Xinzheng slowly opened.

Looking at the Xinzheng City Gate that was already open not far away, and at the Han soldiers on the city wall who were still full of vigilance, Wang Cuo, as the envoy of Wei State, had a slight smile on his face.

He turned around and gave a slight salute to Pang Juan, the deputy general of the Wei army who was acting as the guard beside him, and heard Wang Cuo say in a deep voice: "Thank you, General Pang Juan, for guarding me. It's time for Wang Cuo to enter the city."

"Take care, sir." Facing Wang Cuo, Pang Juan responded with a military salute.

"Take care of yourself."

As the words slowly fell, a neighing sound suddenly sounded from the front of the carriage under Wang Cuo, and the wheels of the carriage slowly rolled forward.

A moment later, Pang Juan, who was standing there, saw a figure entering Xinzheng City.

Another hour passed, and a palace servant appeared in a main hall of the Korean palace with slow and regular steps.

He stopped and bowed to the Marquis of Han in front of him, and then heard the palace servant report in a deep voice: "Your Majesty, the Wei envoy is waiting outside the palace."

The palace man's voice brought the contemplative Han Hou Han Ruoshan above him from the thoughts in his mind back to reality.

After pondering for a while, Han Ruoshan ordered in a deep voice: "Invite the Wei envoy to come in."

"Here."

Shortly after Han Ruoshan issued this order, Wang Cuo, wearing a red robe, slowly walked into the hall.

Standing in front of Han Ruoshan, who was the Marquis of Han, Wang Cuo bowed slightly and said, "Wang Cuo, the envoy of Wei, pays homage to the Marquis of Han."

"Your Majesty, you are very polite. This is not the first time that I and your Majesty have met, so it doesn't have to be like this." After a somewhat warm response, Han Ruoshan invited softly: "My Majesty, please take a seat."

"Thank you, Marquis Han."

After a few breaths, after seeing Wang Cuo sit down safely, Han Hou went straight to the point without saying any polite words.

"Now is the time when the two countries are at war. I don't know why the senior official asked to see me on the order of the Marquis of Wei?"

"I don't dare to deceive the Marquis of Han. The foreign ministers are here just for the truce between Wei and Han." His eyes were connected with Han Ruoshan above, and Wang Cuo looked calm and said slowly: "Come to Xinzheng.

Previously, your Majesty informed the foreign ministers of three conditions."

"As long as South Korea agrees to Wei's three conditions, our Wei army will immediately withdraw from Xinzheng, and there will be a truce and reconciliation between the two countries."

Hearing Wang Cuo's words, Han Ruoshan immediately became interested.

In fact, although the victory of Wei and the Han-Zhao coalition forces on the northern battlefield has not yet been decided, South Korea has not completely lost this war with Wei;

However, the successive defeats in many battles on the southern front, especially the move of the Wei army to suppress the capital Xinzheng, really made Han Ruoshan feel a thorn in his back.

If we could call off the war with Wei and resolve Xinzheng's dilemma, Han Ruoshan would definitely agree with it.

I just don’t know what kind of conditions Wei will put forward?

With this question in his mind, Han Ruoshan immediately looked straight down, a hint of expectation and a bit of solemnity slowly emerging in his eyes.

"I wonder what conditions your Majesty proposed?"

Facing Han Ruoshan's inquiry, Wang Cuo began to explain the conditions proposed by Wei? While telling him, he quietly observed the changes in the expression on Han Ruoshan's face.

Again, the confidence of diplomatic relations comes from the victories won on the battlefield.

Since your army has been defeated on the battlefield, you will have to bear the consequences, including but not limited to ceding territory and paying compensation.

Therefore, although Han Ruoshan, as the Marquis of Han, was not happy about the Wei State's request for South Korea to cede land and compensate money, he could still reluctantly accept it.

But the following request made by Wang Cuo directly made Han Ruoshan fall into rage.

"The third condition of the Kingdom of Wei is that the Marquis of Han go to Anyi and pay homage to my Lord."

"What?"

Upon hearing the last condition proposed by Wang Cuo, Han Ruoshan's face was suddenly filled with shock and anger, as if he didn't believe what he heard in his ears.

Asking him to go to Anyi to meet Wei? The Wei State was going to throw his and South Korea's dignity to the ground and trample on it.

Suddenly, a burning flame emerged from the depths of Han Ruoshan's heart and rushed to his chest.

Feeling the anger that was about to explode in his chest, Han Ruoshan suppressed the anger, gritted his teeth and looked at Wang Cuo below, "Did Ambassador Wei mean what he said?"

"Exactly, this is all the request made by the Wei Kingdom. Please consider it carefully, Marquis Han." After saying this, Wang Cuo stood up directly before Han Ruoshan could get angry. "The conditions have been stated. Marquis Han, the foreign ministers take their leave."

A few breaths later, accompanied by the sound of bamboo slips falling to the ground, Wang Cuo's figure slowly disappeared into the hall.
