Three: a new life

It was six:30 in the morning.

The window gradually became brighter and the first public car drove past the street. A jingle sound came from the second floor of Bedville's house. Aunt Edison was hitting the milk bottle with a silver spoon and announcing the beginning of breakfast to the family.

The bedroom on the second floor was pushed open, and the youngest son of the Bedville couple, the eleven-year-old class ran down the stairs quickly.

"Ban! You have to brush your teeth before you can have breakfast!!" Edisa shouted, and then his voice became gentle, "Good morning, Gana, you are still so beautiful today."

"Thank you, mom." Gana responded in a low voice and hurried downstairs.

Then came Gordon Bedville's thick voice: "Have Ray been out yet?"

"I think you should take him to see a doctor," Edisa sighed.

Gordon was silent for a while, then Li Qin in the attic heard footsteps going upstairs. He quickly opened the window and the cold wind suddenly poured in, dissipating most of the smoke in the room.

The morning mist has not dissipated, but it is the best time for Gunburg air.

Li Qin took a deep breath outside the window for a while.

The preparation and reaction process of sulfur water will take at least a few hours, but we will be on duty soon, so we can only wait for the night before trying the experiment.

You must not let your family discover these secrets.

He walked to the wooden-framed dressing mirror and stared at himself in the mirror.

“Redbedeville…Redbedeville…”

"From now, you will be me."

At this time, a knock on the door came from behind.

After tidying up his messy collar, Lei turned around and opened the door.

The outsider was Gordon Bedville, Ray's adoptive father. He was burly, with a tea-brown beard on his cheeks, black linen trousers tied very neatly with a belt, and three silver bracelets stretched out from the pocket of the chest of the white shirt and hung around his neck.

The sudden smell of smoke caught Gordon off guard. He covered his nose and frowned and said, "Oh! Look, your face is so bad!"

"Sorry Gordon." Lei stood a half-step forward, "I have had some insomnia recently and didn't sleep well last night."

"Is that?" Gordon glanced into the house, but his eyes were blocked by Lei's body. He frowned, "Although you are an adult, if you encounter any difficulties, we are willing to help you. Tell me, child, what have you encountered recently?"

"I did have a little trouble. But..." Lei smiled, "It will get better."

"I hope this is the case." Gordon sighed, "Change your uniform quickly, or you will be late."

He turned and went downstairs.

Ray watched Gordon's back disappear at the end of the stairs, then came to the face wash stand, scooped up a handful of cold water and washed his face.

The water splashed the indigo oil cloth on the shelf, and he sorted out his appearance in front of the mirror.

"That way I look more energetic."

He returned to the wardrobe of the attic and took out a pair of black wool uniforms with double-breasted braided collars. The collar of the uniform was rolled silver, with silver tassel shoulders on the right shoulder, and a black and white shield armband on the left armband. This was the uniform of the trainee police officer, and compared with the formal police, only the epaulette was missing.

He opened the drawer again and took out a brass brooch.

The center of the brooch is carved into a daisy, which is the relics given to Thunder when Hepburn died.

"Why, I wrote down Teacher Hepburn let me go?"

Lei's thought flashed, then he changed into a uniform, locked the door with a hat in his arms, and went downstairs to the dining table.

Gordon was already carrying his coffee and reading today's Gumpburg Morning Post. Ban swallowed the last piece of white bread, and Gana, who was beside him, picked up Ban's napkin and wiped him off the milk stained with his lower lip with disgust.

"Class! You will be twelve in another month."

"So can I eat your portion?"

Ban went to get Gana's silver plate with unsatisfactory pleasure.

"No!" Gana hit the back of her shift heavily, sat on the other side with a meal, and then quickly moved away, "Sorry, Lei, I didn't intend to occupy your place."

"It's not your fault, Gana."

Lei sat down and began to enjoy the white bread and barley tea in front of him, as well as a pie made from the pork loin left over from last night.

The Bedville family's clothing and diet standards have always been above the level, and sending classes and studying in Gana is not a problem, all thanks to the silver hand pawn shop's large income.

He cheered up, Lei finished his breakfast and left the door.

The front room of Bedville's house is a silver hand pawn shop. In Gumburg, senior pawn shop operators often call themselves silversmith shops. Those who boldly make signs like silver hand pawn shops will face the audience to the bottom of society.

From the appearance, it can be seen that its signature is covered with dust and is very sloppy. The store is filled with a large number of carpenter tools, as well as bed sheets, blankets and other practical items. In the valuables area, there are only some rings and brooches labeled like insect specimens, a row of old pocket watches, two strings of corals and a few snuff boxes.

Several customers have appeared in the door.

A man in disheveled clothes, the dirty paper hat on his head covered his eyes halfway, and he could vaguely smell the alcohol on his body from more than ten meters away.

A woman wearing pink stockings, her faded silk robe is thin and floating.

Gordon has begun to receive these down-and-out people, completing the transaction with a fierce look and harsh standards. However, judging from Gordon's move that has not put down the cold cup of coffee, he is absent-minded about these small-scale businesses.

Lei knew that there were often special people appearing in the pawn shop, and they were more alert than mice. After entering the pawn shop, Gordon would carefully take them into the secret door and receive their stolen goods at prices far below the market price.

In the Western Diocese where theft was rampant, it was the main source of income for the Bedville family.

"Godden and Superintendent Glenn have a personal relationship, and I also became a trainee police officer through this relationship."

Lei sorted out his family background and interpersonal relationships related to him and turned around and left.

On the street, a few guys who had their heads cramped in their hoods surrounded a tin bucket to keep warm in the alley.

The factory smoke is everywhere, and it also carries a faint smell. The construction plan for public toilets in this block is still being deployed. When the public carriage passes, large pieces of rotten mud will splash.

A truck carrying garbage passed by not far away, making a heavy and rhythmic mechanical sound. This new steam machine uses a crusher and a garbage compression device with a screw conveyor, metal gears and pistons. Thanks to its existence, Medili Street will not become hell.

Lei looked up at the huge chimney that was looming in the mist, raised his collar and quickly walked across the block.

The butcher in a greasy apron was selling meat from the black iron hook on the roadside, and the vendor shouted loudly in the wooden box containing the half-dead silver swordfish: "Look, the freshest catch that just came from the Pine River in the morning!"

Lei Chun turned a deaf ear. Twenty minutes later, a gray-white building appeared in front of him. The words "Meidelli Street Police Station" were above the gate.

A sudden movement came from the end of the street.

The arrogant roar of the four-stroke engine overwhelmed all the noise, and a leather-topped car broke through the fog and appeared on the street.

In an envious look, the car was parked next to the police station, and the shiny black body was like a perfectly polished obsidian.

Governor Dyson stepped forward and opened the rear door, humbly took off his hat to greet the people in the car.

"Dear Lord Laurenter, God of Fog is with you. Superintendent Glenn is waiting for you."

"Thank you, Dyson."

With a cold voice, the shiny black leather boots poked out of the car, and stepped on the dirty ground with unquestionable decisiveness. A man with grey-brown curly hair walked out of the car, wearing spotless white gloves, brushed away the silver-gray cloak, and ordered Dyson: "Take me over."

"This is my honor." Dyson lowered his head and treated the extraordinary man who was recognized by both the Imperial Parliament and the Church, Dane Laurent, the Gray Knight stationed in the Medili neighborhood. Such respect was not excessive.

Not far away, Lei looked at the back of the gorgeous silver-gray cloak with a serious expression. The Grey Knight is the official recognized extraordinary person, and is also affiliated with the Church Heresy Inquisition and the Imperial Law Enforcement Agency. They are granted the power to use extraordinary powers by the canon and laws to capture extraordinary people outside the law.

Dane Laurent is a cold and keen falcon, and now, Ray is one of his prey.

"Try not to attract his attention." Lei thought cautiously.

...

Because of Laurent's arrival, the police officers showed their energy and worked hard without distraction. Even if they had nothing to do, they began to sort out the trivial civil cases that had been accumulated.

Lei called a trainee co-worker next to him: "Good morning, Andrew."

"Good morning, Ray." The colleague lowered his voice, "Sir Woody is looking for you, be careful, he looks angry."

"I'm mentally prepared." Lei moved away from the topic, "By the way, what major case has there been that alarmed the Gray Knight?"

"They are planning to start a parade on Medili Street today." The colleague glanced at the police room where Woody was on the other side and smiled at Ray, "I have to go to the Operations Office to sign in. Good luck."

Icon-destroying movement?

Lei remembered the whole story of this incident.

A month ago, the originists in the church believed that the "nameless fog" that the church believed in should be depersonalized and the worship of icons was denied. This aroused strong response from all walks of life. With most of the poor who were exploited by monasteries in various places as the main body, under the leadership of some middle class and aristocrats, people began a march against icons worship.

The parade finally affected Medili Street.

Very good, so the Grey Knight's attention will be drawn away.

Lei thought about it and walked into the police room and immediately received a sarcastic scolding.

"I swear you are the stupidest trainee officer I have ever met!" Sheriff Woody slapped the table, "Look, the documents I asked you to archive yesterday are all better than you!"

"Your excellent work ability has always been obvious to all." Lei smiled.

Woody obviously didn't hear Lei's subtext, but his face calmed down a little, and he snorted: "Listen, your face is very bad now, but I advise you not to use the excuse of not sleeping well to make excuses for me. Today is an important day. Lord Laurenter came to the branch office for inspection. If you make any extraordinary actions, I promise that you will never have the chance to get this formal notice in your life!"

Woody picked up a document and asked Lei Yangyang.

"My?" Lei raised his eyebrows.

Although the trainee police officers and police officers are only two words apart, their treatment is very different. Putting aside the salary, formal police officers have the right to get guns in some emergency situations.

Successfully becoming a regular person was originally Ray's biggest wish before receiving Hepburn's estate, but the assessor, Officer Woody, who has always been too strict and overly ruthless, has he changed his sexual intercourse today?

"In fact, I prepared this notice after you passed the analysis machine test ten days ago." Woody looked straight and his pie face, "but your recent performance has made me feel urged to throw it into the shredder several times."

Lei looked at the fat face. This guy suddenly became less hateful?

But then Woody took the full notice back to the table, pointed at Lei's nose and said, "So be honest today, otherwise I will really peel you! Little boy."

"Abide by the orders, Officer Woody." Lei laid his hand salute.

"Very good, from your tone, I hear your sense of responsibility." Woody nodded and pointed out outside the door. "Go to the operation office to prepare police weapons for everyone. Those mud legs are about to start parading. Today, all the work is to patrol the block with Lord Laurenter. If you want to go to the toilet, this is the last chance, hurry up!"
