Chapter 4 Really Poor

Stay alive!

Looking at the scene in front of her, Su Zi wanted to say, living is really not that simple!

The Tao family's house is a thatched house with walls made of grass mixed with yellow mud, a few sparse bamboo fences, and a crooked-necked jujube tree in the courtyard.

Just like this poor family, the leaves are growing luxuriantly, but there are no fruits!

Su Zi sent her three younger brothers and four younger sisters to play by themselves. She went to the kitchen first and took a look around. The low, narrow kitchen with a big hole in it was a dark place except for a big black iron pot.

.

There is no pig pen, and no chicken coop!

Su Zi sat silently on the threshold of the kitchen, staring blankly outside the room.

As dusk fell, the men, women, and children of Taojia Village who had gone out to farm all returned.

In August, it was the time to harvest rice. The men were happily walking back carrying the harvested rice, while the women were holding their children and others were carrying farm tools. The whole family was talking and laughing.

It's painful but also joyful.

"Second sister, I'm hungry."

Su Zi looked at the fourth sister who was sitting next to her, put her hand on the thin face of the fourth sister, sighed and said, "How about eating some more wild fruits?"

The fourth sister nodded and turned to look for the third brother.

Su Zi let out a long sigh. It's not okay to eat wild fruits like this all the time. Besides, after summer comes autumn, and the most difficult winter is waiting for her! If she doesn't do it well, she will die from hunger and cold.

!

Aunt Tao came back. When she saw Su Zi sitting on the threshold in a daze, she stepped forward with a sad expression, "Zisu..."

Su Zi looked up at her.

"Is it called Zi Su?" Aunt Tao looked at her hesitantly.

Su Zi nodded, okay, let's call her Zi Su from now on.

"Zisu, you have also seen that the situation at home is like this, and my health cannot last a few more days. My three brothers and four sisters will have to rely on you."

Maybe that's why even though she knew Zisu was a burden, she still insisted on waiting for her and bringing her back! Aunt Tao felt that she didn't have much time left, and her three brothers and four sisters had to be taken by herself even if they went out to beg for food.

"Don't worry, I will take good care of them."

Zi Su never raised her head, and never saw the momentary sadness in Aunt Tao's eyes.

The two of them faced each other in silence for a moment, before Zi Su whispered softly: "If this continues, how will we survive the winter?"

He didn't wait for Aunt Tao's answer, and of course Zisu didn't need Aunt Tao's answer.

"Does our family have land?"

"have."

"Have you planted rice?"

"..."

"Do we have land?"

"have."

"Have you planted vegetables?"

"..."

Zi Su raised her head and looked at Aunt Tao. After confirming the true image behind the silence, she nodded, "Let the third brother take me to our fields and fields to have a look."

Aunt Tao nodded.

Zisu was not worried about what her abnormal behavior would bring to Aunt Tao. She was a person who was given away at birth. In seven years, they had zero understanding between each other. The unfamiliarity with each other just relieved her.

All actions that may not be approved of. Of course, she will never do anything shocking. She doesn't want to be killed by the villagers as a monster.

The Tao family's two fields are on a mountain road out of the village. Other people's fields are all leftover rice stubble. Only the Tao family's two fields have wild grass growing there.

Zi Su didn't understand that even if Aunt Tao couldn't cultivate the good fields, it would be better to plant them for others and harvest a few buckets of rice than to leave them empty! He sighed and asked Third Brother Tao, "Where is the vegetable field?"

Third brother Tao took her hand and walked up the road from the village for about half a stick of incense. He pointed at a field that was also covered with weeds and said, "This."

Zi Su no longer knows what sighing is. If she sighs again, her lungs will burst out!

"Go back."

She held Tao Sandi's hand and walked back with her head lowered. As she walked, her eyes lit up.

"Third brother, do you want to eat rice?"

Third brother Tao nodded and looked at Zisu doubtfully.

"Then tomorrow, you and the fourth sister will listen to the second sister and do whatever the second sister tells you to do."

"good."

Brother Tao San responded crisply. For him, eating is a very tempting thing.

Zisu nodded, took Third Brother Tao's hand and walked back.

There was nothing at home. Aunt Tao was lying hunched over on the shabby bed with a straw mat that could get into people, coughing so hard that people could hardly breathe. There was smoke everywhere in the village, and other people were cooking, but the Tao family...

Zisu picked up the fourth sister who was huddled by the threshold and walked towards the kitchen.

He boiled a pot of hot water and gave her and Third Brother Tao a bath. Then, he pointed at the remaining "milk potion" and said to them, "Eat this first today, and the second sister will find something for you to eat tomorrow."

"good."

The two of them responded in unison.

Zi Su sent the two of them to lie down on the bed. Those wild fruits could only fill their stomachs temporarily and help them fall asleep as soon as possible, saving all their energy. I hope they can survive until tomorrow morning.

After Zisu sat in the small courtyard for half a stick of incense, she entered the room in the dark. Being hungry and tired, she ignored the buzzing mosquitoes and closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Zi Su woke up with an empty stomach, and when she opened her eyes, she saw Tao Third Brother and Tao Fourth Sister standing in front of her hand in hand. The two people had been cleaned and had very delicate features.

"Second sister." The third brother looked at Zisu, "I will take the fourth sister to listen to the second sister."

Zi Su nodded, looked up at Aunt Tao, who was sitting blankly on the kitchen stool, and said softly: "Let the third brother and the fourth sister go to the fields to pick grains."

Aunt Tao suddenly raised her head and stared at Zi Su.

"What's wrong?"

"Would other people agree?" Aunt Tao murmured.

"How do you know whether you agree or not without trying? Besides, it's better than starving to death." Zi Su turned over and sat up, holding the hands of Tao Sandi and Tao Simei, and told them: "Remember, pick the fields where others have threshed millet.

Don't steal from others, you hear me?"

Third brother Tao and fourth sister Tao nodded.

"When you meet someone who has a sweet mouth, you should call him uncle. You will count as much as you pick up. Those who have not threshed millet and those who are still threshing are not allowed to go. Remember?"

"Remember, second sister."

Third brother Tao rubbed his hungry stomach, "Second sister, can you really find us something to eat?"

"Well, I'll find it for you as soon as noon."

"Oh, I have something to eat for lunch."

Third brother Tao took Tao fourth sister's hand and walked out.

"Don't go far, pick it up where someone can see it, remember."

"Remember, second sister."

Zi Su glanced at Aunt Tao, who was still dazed, and said, "Go and collect some firewood and come back."

She thought that Mrs. Tao in this life might not be as old as she was in her previous life, and that she couldn't say "Mother" no matter what.

Fortunately, Mrs. Tao didn't care. When she saw Zisu taking a hoe and heading out, she couldn't help but take a few steps and said, "Zisu, where are you going?"
