Chapter 22 The Ben Franklin Hotel
In a small town in southwest Wyoming.
A burst of dust rose on the road and a carriage stopped at the door of the security office.
A man with a raised beard came down from the carriage, his hands were cobbled with another prisoner with a bruised nose and a swollen face.
The man stepped onto the wooden steps of the security center and tried his best to move his arm forward. The prisoner behind him was pulled and almost fell to the ground. He was punched by the man with his backhand.
"It's time to get home, bastard." The man uncuffed his handcuffs and kicked him into the gate of the security office.
"Hanif, long time no see." The sheriff sitting at the table greeted the man, "Take it to the cell behind."
The man is Hanif, the bounty hunter Chen Jianqiu and the others met on the road.
Hanif held the prisoner's back collar and threw him into the cell like a little chicken.
He turned and walked to the sheriff, who had already taken out the bounty from the drawer and slapped it on the table.
Hanif took money from the table, took out an exquisite small steel wine pot in his arms, opened the lid and took a bite. He walked to the chair opposite the sheriff and sat down.
"It's really tiring, John, I came from Shiquan Town. The bounty was originally posted there, but Sheriff Morris didn't know where to go, and the gates in the security office were closed, and there was no one." He said to the sheriff in front of him while drinking, "So come here to try your luck."
The sheriff shrugged: "Yes, the bounty releases in our neighboring towns are basically the same, but they are limited to South Wyoming. By the way, something happened to Morris."
Hanif didn't care much about what happened to Morris. For him, as long as someone gave a bounty, sheriffs were always a high-risk profession in the west of the 19th century. It was really normal to die one or two sheriffs."
"John, have there been any big fish recently?" Hanif asked the Sheriff.
"Don't say it, there are really." The sheriff pointed to the notice board outside the window, where there were already many people. "I just posted it, why don't you take a look?"
Hanif got up and walked out, and walked towards the notice board.
There were many people watching, including his partner and coachman, and everyone was also talking about it:
"Such a high bounty? Why have these three people never heard of it?"
"I heard that the first time I appeared was in Shiquan Town. I killed the mine manager and many people who maintained public order. Everyone was cruel and ruthless, and at least ten lives were stained with their hands."
"You don't know. They later killed a US Army lieutenant, and Sheriff Morris died at their hands."
"Ah? Officers dare to attack, too?"
"That's right, I heard from the soldiers present that the Chinese man was possessed by Satan. He rode a black horse and broke into the barracks alone. He couldn't hit the gun and was extremely powerful. The Indian was even more cruel. When the lieutenant was discovered, his head and torso were separated and his scalp was gone. As for the black man..."
"All right, stop talking, I'm getting goosebumps all over my body. God, don't let me meet them."
...
Everyone was still chattering, which aroused Hanif's curiosity. He wanted to see who was worth so much money.
But when he separated everyone and squeezed in and saw the reward order, his expression froze on his face.
The three people on the reward order were the three he met in the Green River Valley.
The bounty of each of them rose to 300 US dollars.
"Donny! Donny!" Hanif shouted loudly at the name of his coachman and partner.
Donnie came out of the crowd, his expression a little awkward: "Head, we missed four hundred and fifty dollars."
Hanif's cheek muscles were twitching, which was simply a shame for his hunter career. He jumped into the carriage.
"Damn Chinese, call Brother Bain and let's 'hunting'."
...
"Ah snee!" Chen Jianqiu, who was riding on the horse, sneezes, "Who is thinking about me?"
After packing up their things, the three of them continued to set off. Chen Jianqiu told the two of them the secret of the treasure. Sean was very excited, while Feiniao said that no matter what Chen Jianqiu did, he would support and follow him unconditionally.
After this battle, the others cannot guarantee that each of them will definitely increase their bounties, but due to the poor federal service efficiency, their reward orders should not be posted outside Wyoming for the time being, so they still have to continue walking south.
After the three of them discussed, they decided to find a place to rest. They only had one set of clothes on them, and they were already ragged. Chen Jianqiu's shotgun and dagger were thrown out as disposable weapons during the battle. Feinun had a rifle, but he had never seen him use it before. It seemed that he still trusted his bow and arrow more; as for Sean, well, he should also give him a long weapon.
In addition, one problem they need to solve is the bag of gold nuggets and two gold bars in their hands. From this point of view, they are now considered wealthy. Although gold is hard currency on this earth, you can't buy a bun and throw a gold bar on someone's face.
"Why don't we go to Salt Lake City Bank?" asked Sean.
"Do you think the skin color configuration of the three of us is not conspicuous enough?" Chen Jianqiu gave him a blank look, "Surrently heading towards Colorado. We also have to go to Denver to find the archaeologist Lockhart, who Robert mentioned before, to see if he knows the secret of the treasure map."
He took a deep breath and said, "Everyone should be careful. I always feel that someone is following us, but I have never been able to determine their number and do not understand their purpose."
The three of them shuttled through the Utah Mountain, and the more they walked forward, the more unfamiliar they even entered the geographical blind spot of Asuka. Fortunately, Sean got a map of the Utah-Colored area from Edward's camp. The map description was not detailed, but combined with the ability to judge the direction in Asuka Mountain, the three of them finally confirmed that they had left the Utah boundary after walking for a few days.
When they came down the mountain road from the hillside, the sky had become gloomy, and Chen Jianqiu was about to discuss with the other two people to find a place to camp.
Suddenly, Fei Bi pointed to a place not far away and said, "Look, there is a small town there."
Chen Jianqiu observed carefully and found that at the foot of the mountain, there was indeed a small town with only a trace of light. I don’t know if it was the light on the town.
Blooms of rain began to float in the sky, and the sky became darker, and it was about to get into the night.
Chen Jianqiu took advantage of the last ray of light to open the map, but he could not find this small town on the map.
"Boss, let's go down first. If you're late, you'll probably not find the way, and the map is wet."
Maybe the map was not marked very accurately.
Chen Jianqiu nodded and the three of them headed towards the town.
After arriving at the periphery of the town, Chen Jianqiu discovered that the town was smaller than he thought, and could even be called a small village.
A dirt road runs through the town, with weeds growing on both sides of the road, giving people an inexplicable sense of desolation.
The rows of dilapidated houses are distributed on both sides of the road, and the shapes are very perfunctory. Some houses have corners and some windows are blocked.
What is strange is that none of these houses have lights on, either dark or can be seen directly that they are obviously abandoned.
"Raw Town?" Sean looked at a street sign standing at the entrance of the town, with the name of the town being engraved crookedly on it.
Chen Jianqiu took out the map again, and the light was already very weak. He glanced at it again but still couldn't find the town.
The rain in the sky became heavier and the wind became heavier. The three of them quickly slapped their horses and arrived at the largest room with the lights at the end of the road.
There is a sign hanging on the house, which says:
Ben Franklin Hotel.
