Chapter 8 Ranch Night

"Okay, I give up."

Zach said to me who was still busy at the stone cutting table in a self-defeating manner.

Although I was busy, it didn't affect my speech at all, so I continued.

"Zach, don't be discouraged. Come and see how it works tomorrow. It will be easier than it looks."

Zach thought about the methods I had used just now, which were almost splitting rocks with bare hands and grinding surfaces manually, and quickly shook his head to get this terrible thought out of his mind.

Mayor Thomas saw me stopping what I was doing again, and finally found the opportunity to say to me.

"Mr. Marcus, I ran around the whole town this afternoon and opened some investments for you."

The fat mayor showed a harmless expression again, and his fleshy nose looked even more ridiculous.

"For example, the chicken farm is willing to support you with a batch of chickens, and the forge house will provide you with a batch of tools...if you still need them."

He took a look at the simple tools on my stone-cutting table and the general-purpose stone materials that were completely comparable to assembly line products.

I looked at this fat man who loves to cheat people with a little surprise. I never thought that he could be so reliable!

"Dear Thomas the Tank Engine... Oh no, Mayor, of course I need it! It must have been hard after walking so much today, please sit down!"

As I said that, I took down two general-purpose stones of a suitable size and put them together into a stone bench on the ground, gesturing for the two of them to sit down.

Mayor Thomas sat down with a flattered expression and continued.

"Then the owner of the winery is willing to provide a job, which is mainly physical work such as hoisting wine barrels and cleaning the wine cellar. If you need it, you can contact Dick directly."

After saying that, he took out two bags of simple packaging from his arms and placed them in front of me.

"These are seeds kindly provided by the grocery store. Of course, since the friendship exchange process is quite intense, I suggest you not deal with him in the near future."

He pointed to the green bag and said: "These are pasture seeds, which can be eaten by all kinds of livestock, but chickens and ducks must be carefully selected for practical use."

Then pointed to another bag.

"This is potato seed. It is an excellent seed that is resistant to drought and barrenness. The land here has not been plowed before and is severely compacted. It is best to sow this seed for a season first."

Then pointed to Zach.

"Zach is responsible for the town's liaison with foreign trade routes. He also transports and sells goods every day. If you need any external supplies, you can contact him to purchase them."

After saying that, he patted the non-existent dust on his silk pants, turned around and left.

"Okay, okay, today I can keep up with a camel and Harris in the desert. I'm going back to rest, Marcus, please do your best."

I looked at these two bags of things with some excitement. I felt so sleepy that I found my pillow. It seems that I can start planting tomorrow.

"Thomas the Tank Engine... Mayor, please come slowly and come often when you have time!"

I sent him off enthusiastically, and agreed with Zach that this time would be the shipping time every afternoon. The output would be stacked at this location on the edge of the field, and he would take it away and use it as revenue the next day.

Bring it here.

…………

After seeing off the two guests, I continued to process two batches of stones, and it was completely dark.

After learning today, the ranch is located in the southwest of the town, with a freshwater river leading from the town to the sea to the south. The upstream supplies water for the entire Ore Town, while the downstream ensures the three farms in the town - the Ore Town Ranch in order.

Chicken farm, water collection for irrigation at Yodel Ranch.

Therefore, as the cattle and sheep return to their pens and the chickens return to their roosts, this line begins to appear completely silent, without any trace of fireworks.

Only the decadent sunset made its last stand on the mountains, and then suddenly disappeared.

The place where the sun sets is Mount Maders, which Ore Town is leaning on.

This mountain ridge is like a recumbent dragon, stretching out a long and narrow spine from north to south. The abundant spring water on it has even irrigated a lush forest south of Ore Town, with needles, broad leaves, and deciduous leaves growing alternately.

Trees, evergreen trees, shrubs.

The upstream of this spring is a lake halfway up the mountain.

Different from the towering Madas Mountain, this lake is round and harmonious, like a moving eye on the mountain, always filled with bright aqua blue, watching the creatures below the mountain.

Judging from the rumors of a mine in the center of the lake, it can be imagined that the history of this lake must be far greater than the prosperous era that the town experienced before.

A hot spring popping up halfway up the mountain is still the most popular entertainment activity for town residents.

When the tavern owner talked about the climbing route to Mount Mads, his eyes dimmed for some reason, and he just added lightly.

"The scenery at the top of the mountain is beautiful. I go there once a year."

After talking about mountains, let’s talk about the sea.

Follow the passage through the town and pass through Rose Square in the center of the town, and you will come to a beach.

This beach is quite large in area and is also the location of the town's only port, which is responsible for the town's external communications. If they want to travel to and from the town, residents can only rely on ferries on irregular routes.

Of course, except for a flying fairy like me.

"If I have time, I will go to the beach tomorrow."

…………

After returning to the house, I put together a universal stone stool and sat in the empty room, thinking about the surroundings that were slowly dimming.

At present, there are two aspects that I need to consider.

The first is the living environment.

This ranch house lacks many necessary items for daily life, so I need to decorate it from scratch.

At present, I have a universal material like general stone. As long as the quantity is processed enough, and with the universal operation of the colonist system, I can arrange the house with a relatively complete table, chair, bed, and make some wardrobes and cabinets with good partitions.

The division of labor in each room initially establishes this home.

Improving the pastures outside requires a long-term process.

There are many rocks and trees inside, which I need to slowly process with the help of tools. I can process the large stones into general-purpose stones, and I also plan to use the small stones as building materials to expand houses, pools, and pave roads.

The wood is treated in the same way, and I must make good use of it. The small wood can be collected as firewood to rekindle the long-abandoned fireplace of this house. The large trees can be cut down and stored, and all used as building materials.

If conditions permit, you can even retain part of the formed trees to serve as a natural barrier for the chicken farm.

Speaking of tools, those people mentioned by the mayor should visit their neighbors in the town as soon as possible.

The second humanistic environment must be put on the agenda as soon as possible.

Judging from the current contacts, the neighbors in the town are all very easy to get along with. This may also be related to the stable and harmonious semi-enclosed environment of Ore Town.

But it's not just relationships that I care about.

As a rancher, producing enough goods as soon as possible and forming a stable and reliable trading model with various residents in the town are the foundation for establishing a foothold here.

If I am still in a state of making fun of myself, even if people like Boss Dart don't have any objections, I will not be happy to waste my life like this.

What's the difference between that and working as a migrant worker in a shining city?

When I think of Shining City, I think of the short happy childhood I had before, and the boring and lengthy virtual world experience I had later.

"What is the purpose of being a human being?"

Immediately, I recalled the suspected past life memories that flickered in my sleep, the calm years in that peaceful era, and the magical system in this game.

I shifted my consciousness to the sign in my field of vision, and then in the deserted environment, the voice that only I could hear sounded, that cheerful voice that gave me endless hope.

"Welcome to Tynan Sylvester's Colony Simulator!"

Yes.

I came here just to change my destiny, as for other goals, they are still too far away.

Maybe one day in the future, I can get rid of the pursuit of the indefinite and invisible fate behind me, and then I may be able to freely pursue something I really want.

Maybe grazing cattle in the pasture or fishing.

Maybe a chat or a walk around town.

Maybe it’s to venture out into the outside world freely.

Not now.

But it is never hopeless.

As the last bit of light disappeared, I lay down neatly in the sleep chamber. Just like I had done countless times in the past, I covered the sleeping chamber with its own thermal cushion and prepared to fall asleep.

I could feel a gust of evening wind blowing sharply down from Maders Mountain, quickly blowing through every leaf in the pasture, and then disappearing into the distance of the plains.
