Chapter 18 Under the Archaeological Incident of the Hot Spring House

By the way, the mine!

After confirming one point of the puzzle, another point that the clue pointed to was also recalled by me.

On the way up the mountain, ranger Gotts once mentioned that there was an abandoned mine near the hot spring.

It is very possible that this was an important place for miners' activities back then, and it will definitely leave traces.

I walked out of the hot spring house and wanted to look for any traces on the ground or the remains of tracks.

But all I could see was fluffy grass and green moss, covering the ground densely, leaving nothing to be found.

Finally, I saw a somewhat gray depression at a break in the cliff not far from the hot spring house. From a distance, it looked like an ordinary stone wall, surrounded by green vines that grew rapidly.

In fact, those unnatural vegetation breaks have shown that these plants are secondary forests that grew up later, and can barely decorate the facade with branches.

I walked forward gently, walking through layers of floating grass, and stepped onto a piece of solid ground.

This is the feeling of stone paving.

I am even more sure that I am not looking in the wrong place.

I waved the sickle in my hand to open a space for me to walk, and finally saw this ancient mine that had been abandoned for at least twenty years and built for an unknown number of years.

………

On the first day on the island, we were all very excited. We finally got rid of the squeeze of the trust group and rushed to this land that was completely different from the western continent.

Although a few of us squeezed out all our savings in exchange for the Voyager Alliance's promise to bring us to this island.

Old Yorkson has been encouraging us that this will be a brand new world. We will have our own houses, land, family, and wealth, and we will fully own these wealth with our own output.

Except for young Hooker, we all quite agree with what Old Yorkson said. After all, he is the most knowledgeable and talented person among them all.

But for young Hooker, a born skeptic, it became his instinct to doubt everything. He scoffed at Old Yorkson's words. I doubt that he would join this route just because of the lies the trust company told him.

Just more.

But I believe it.

God bless this is the first time I know what freedom is.

…………

The development of this island has begun in full swing.

Since there are only six of us, we can only adopt the most primitive enclosure method, starting from the landing point and expanding inland step by step.

This method was also taught to us by old Yorkson. He is a natural master in this regard!

We built a simple dock and placed the Voyager Alliance logo flag. This way, after they see the flag, they will come to confirm the route.

We built a row of neatly planned houses on the beach. Although even the nails were nailed crookedly, we all proudly engraved our names on the foundation boards of the houses.

…………

After several months of cleaning and exploration, we have thoroughly understood the topography of the entire island. Old Yorkson drew a detailed map and marked the future plan of the town on it.

Farming and pastoral areas, residential areas, and trading docks are juxtaposed. At the top are churches, hospitals and administrative offices. I was privately appointed by this small group to be the first police chief of the town.

But Little Hook still expressed his disdain. His stubborn eyes were full of conspiracy theories, and he even suspected that every blade of grass had a premeditated intention to injure him!

…………

The mining of the mine greatly exceeded our expectations!

Countless treasures of the earth are leaning toward us like collapsed piles of sand.

For this reason, we even had to suspend the mining of the mine after obtaining the first batch of income, and instead imported a large amount of building materials, with Dolanco acting as a carpenter to build an effective passage from the mine to the town.

In the past few months of rest, everyone has also determined their residential address and moved their residences from the humid and noisy seaside to a more inland residential area. Only Little Hook still lives in the row of houses on the seaside, like an insidious dragon.

Guarding his treasure.

It's not that I doubt his character.

Everyone watched with their own eyes as he turned in his earnings every day. After all, in this place, privately held minerals, even gold, were just scrap metal that could not flow.

………

The mine on the side of the mountain has been fully developed. Old Yorkson suggested using wooden piles and supports to reinforce the interior of the fragile and easily tilted mountain and develop the mine in layers.

We also discovered that the tiankeng mining method taught to us by the company earlier was no longer applicable to this place.

So we started mining and consolidating every day, digging down layer by layer, consolidating it, and pulling in electric lighting.

Little Hook laughed at us for wasting our efforts. Once the wires are short-circuited, the entire underground space will explode.

This gruesome curse annoyed Antonio.

When Antonio's fist touched Little Hook's face, the quarrel stopped, and the long-lasting relationship between the two was brought to a freezing point. If there are no accidents, this silent war will continue until the sun goes out!

………

How long have we been here?

This is not important, I only know that countless wealth will fall into our pockets every day when we wake up.

For this reason, we summoned another group of companions and sneaked in here with the help of the Voyager Alliance to take charge of transporting and cleaning the ore at the foot of the mountain.

At the same time, another new mine that is difficult to discover was also opened.

That night we got the great hero, Old Yorkson, very drunk. Hearing him muttering that good times were coming, he was so drunk that he passed out, and then we left the place laughing.

But we unanimously voted and agreed that only a few of us can go into the mountains to mine. If we die, our descendants or designated heirs will replace us.

…………

We built elegant houses in the small town and lived what we thought was a decent life.

But every day, he still carried the mining manuscripts, hummed songs describing the suffering of the past, and went to the mountains to mine in an orderly manner.

"Over the mountains, across the rivers.

We are a group of paupers.

Mining pickaxe jingle

Mining pickaxe jingle

Mined silver ore like pearls

Copper mined resembles seashells

Ding Ding Dang came out of the gold mine

All went into the treasure box of the old turtledoves."

But there is one person missing from this group.

After young Hooker built his own house, he finally moved out of the row house on the seaside hesitantly and gave the place to the guys who later made a living.

But since then, he has never entered this mountain or touched this mine.

…………

Old Yorkson's health is deteriorating and he is about to become the second person left behind among us.

Antonio and the others built scaffolding for a while to transport old Yorkson into the mine, trying to hide his weakness.

After all, the people at the foot of the mountain have proposed more than once that they want to enjoy equal exploration rights.

But Old Yorkson's body could no longer bear the thin air in the mines and the noisy and billowing dust.

Fortunately, they also divided into the equal rights faction, the seniority faction and the youth faction, and they continued their work under the persuasion of me, the police chief.

But days like this are not the norm after all.

At this time we came up with a solution.

We plan to build an annex on the hot spring outside the mine, using this natural spring water to nourish old Yorkson's aging body, and also add fun to his boring activities in the mountains.

After hearing the news, Old Yorkson raised his head from the interaction of using his nose to read, filled with intense joy.

Just like countless times before, he arranged the planning and design of this hot spring house, and even went into the cave himself to bake a batch of bricks with beautiful patterns as the cornerstone of the hot spring house.

…………

On the day the hot spring house was built, Old Yorkson laid down the cornerstone himself.

We looked at the names engraved on it and couldn't help laughing.

At first, he laughed at us mercilessly for carving our names on the wooden boards of the house.

He said that to him, an old resident of a landlocked country, such behavior was a naked bumpkin.

Seeing us teasing him, Old Yorkson did not refute. He just sighed softly and pulled Dolanco, a carpenter who was building a wooden house, to talk about all kinds of trivial matters in his youth that he had never wanted to mention before.

We have long felt that this old man's knowledge is far from being reduced to miners like us. But no one is willing to delve into the story behind it.
