Chapter 380 Awards Ceremony

December 10, 2021.

Stockholm local time at 3:00 pm.

It's the annual Nobel Prize Season again.

It was the cold winter, with heavy snow and high latitudes, so the sky gradually darkened at 3 pm in Stockholm.

But the whole city is in a scorching atmosphere like a fire and cooking oil.

Especially the Stockholm Concert Hall located in the city center, there is a rush of people.

The nearby streets have long been cordoned, and the roads are crowded with Stockholm citizens and tourists from all over the world with national flags.

The most eye-catching one is the Chinese and overseas Chinese waving the five-star red flag.

Two Chinese won the award this year, which caused a great response among overseas Chinese.

Pang Xuelin's achievements have also been spread all over the world through major media around the world.

Especially after the success of the Golden Dragon Battery Project, the case of the United States detaining Qi Xin pushed Pang Xuelin's reputation to the peak.

Some media even conducted such a survey on Pang Xuelin's global popularity. In the United States, as many as 75% of people have heard of Pang Xuelin's name, more than 80% in Japan and South Korea, and in Europe, more than 70% of people know Pang Xuelin's name.

In addition, Pang Xuelin won the Nobel Prize at the age of 24. In a sense, Pang Xuelin has become one of the most famous scientists in the world.

Pang Xuelin sat in the car and watched the people who were walking along the way, waving the five-star red flag and cheering, and there was also a heat current in his heart.

Although in his own opinion, being recognized by the Nobel Prize is nothing, after all, with a system in hand, he will even have the ability to reduce and weaken the authority of the Nobel Prize in the future.

But for Chinese people who have the Nobel Prize plot, this is a time for the whole country to celebrate.

The convoy stopped in front of the famous Stockholm concert hall. The concert hall was simple and simple, with ten giant columns leading directly to the eaves from the ground. The Orpheus statue was located in front of the concert hall.

Pang Xuelin got out of the car and walked into the Stockholm Concert Hall accompanied by Zuo Yiqiu and the organizer staff.

However, these winners did not enter the lobby of the concert hall directly, but waited in the backstage.

Each winner has a staff member from the organizer to tell them the general process of the award ceremony next.

In addition, Pang Xuelin was surrounded by a well-dressed Swedish female college student. He only needed to follow the female college student from behind to the stage and receive the award from the Swedish king.

At four o'clock in the afternoon, the solemn music sounded.

The first ones to appear were the Nobel Prize winners of this year, followed by the Prize for Physics, Chemistry, Medicine or Physiology, and Economics.

As for the winner of the Peace Prize, it was awarded by the Norwegian Nobel Peace Prize Committee, and it has nothing to do with Sweden.

It was not until half an hour later that the staff following Pang Xuelin whispered in Pang Xuelin's ear: "Professor Pang, it's your turn."

Pang Xuelin nodded with a smile and followed the Swedish female college student leading the way into the main venue of the concert hall.

The layout style in the main venue is mainly solemn and elegant, and a bronze statue of Nobel half-body is placed in the middle of the stage.

There were ten flower baskets on the stage, and gladiolus and lilies were placed in the flower baskets.

Amid the sound of music, Pang Xuelin entered the center of the podium.

The speech of the Nobel Foundation Chairman Lars Haikentens: "Since the invention of voltaic batteries in 1800, for more than two hundred years, from lead-acid batteries, to lithium batteries, and then to fuel-air batteries, we have always been committed to improving the energy storage density of batteries. Especially in recent years, with the increasing scarcity of chemical resources such as oil and coal, and the increasing environmental pollution, the development of new green energy has become the top priority for human society's development. Lithium air batteries have high energy density and long cycle life. Green-free

Pollution and other advantages have become the focus of global scientists' attention. Mr. Pang Xuelin, who has made a major breakthrough in this field, is officially from China. He is one of the youngest Nobel Prize winners in history. His achievements, from mathematics to materials science, and then to electrochemistry, have pointed out the direction for the development of human society. His achievements in the field of graphene and lithium air batteries have led us from the oil era to a more environmentally friendly and green future. Please invite Professor Pang Xuelin, the winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry this year!”

After Lars Haikentens finished speaking, several warm applause suddenly echoed at the scene.

Pang Xuelin slowly walked onto the stage and came to the Swedish king Gustav.

"Hello, Your Majesty the King."

Pang Xuelin bowed slightly and said with a smile.

Gustav smiled and said, "Hello, Professor Pang. You are the youngest winners I have ever met. I hope to see you again on this stage in the future."

"Your Majesty think I can win the award again?"

Pang Xuelin's face showed a look of surprise.

Gustav smiled and said, "Why not? Young man, I have read your information. You are the most talented and incredible scholar I have ever met. Unfortunately, Nobel does not have a math prize, otherwise you should have won the prize. Of course, we also have a physics prize and a physiology prize. I look forward to meeting you again here."

"Thanks!"

Pang Xuelin took the gold medal and certificate from Gustav, and both sides shook hands with smiles, and then took a photo with them to the reporters.

The award ceremony lasted until 5:30 pm, and then Pang Xuelin followed the other winners to Stockholm City Hall to attend the Nobel Prize dinner.

There were more than 1,300 guests attending the dinner, and the organizer thoughtfully arranged Pang Xuelin's parents, grandparents, Qi Xin, Yao Bingxia, Zuo Yiqiu and others at a table.

Before the dinner officially begins, ten winners will need to go on stage to deliver speeches one after another.

At six o'clock in the evening, Pang Xuelin walked slowly to the podium amid warm applause.

“Dear Mr. Chairman, honored winners, ladies and gentlemen:

Today, I am extremely honored to meet you here.

Before the report, I would like to first thank the Nobel Prize Jury, and the Nobel Prize Foundation for awarding me the 2021 Nobel Prize for Chemistry. This is not only a personal honor, but also a commendation and encouragement to my scientific research team.

You may have seen the research and development process of lithium air batteries in many reports. Here, I will only give a brief introduction.

In 2020, when I went to the United States to do my tour report, I met Professor Curton Walker in Princeton.

At that time, Professor Curton Walker was in trouble, but I was very moved by his persistence and pursuit of lithium air batteries.

Because of this, I agree to work with Professor Curton Walker to establish an experimental team at Jiangda and find a path to success.

In this team, in addition to Professor Curton Walker and I, there are also Professor Ye Xingmin, Professor Huo Ziqian, Professor He Wenyan, Professor Qiu Qiwei, Professor Xu Ting and many colleagues who have worked hard on this project.

I am proud of them. It is precisely because of their unremitting efforts that we have completed the breakthrough of lithium air batteries in such a short time.

Lithium air battery, the more accurate term should be lithium oxygen battery (li-o2), which is a battery based on the conversion of electrical energy between metal and air chemical energy.

The theoretical energy storage density of this battery is so high that it has always been considered the ultimate energy source in the battery world.

However, in the eyes of many people who know how to do things, lithium air batteries have many difficult obstacles.

For example, how to prevent chronic leakage of the diaphragm using two electrolytes?

How to increase the usable temperature of organic electrolyte?

How to find gold and platinum catalysts that can replace the current use?

When replacing lithium fuel, how to prevent the invasion of water and gas from causing explosions?

How to circulate unused lithium and lithium hydroxide?

How to reduce the energy consumption of circulating lithium hydroxide, etc.

There are so many big pits that when I announced the development of lithium-air batteries, many people thought this project was purely a gimmick."

Pang Xuelin paused, and a burst of laughter suddenly erupted at the scene.

After all, because of the lithium air battery project, Pang Xuelin’s bet with people has long spread all over the world.

Everyone understands what he means.

Pang Xuelin smiled and continued: "But in the end, I proved that this is not a gimmick. Because of this personal experience, I hope that the academic community can be based on the relaxed atmosphere of some of our young scientists.

Really interesting scientific research is driven by curiosity, and sometimes new breakthroughs will be made in unexpected areas.

Some even if discoveries cannot really solve the problem, they can give us more knowledge about the universe, nature, society, and ourselves.

Just like Dr. Wilson, known as the king of accelerators, when he and his mentor Lawrence created a cyclotron in the 1930s, no one knew what this thing could bring to us.

But in the end, his accelerator became an important part of the Fermi Laboratory in the United States, not only played a crucial role in the research of nuclear bombs, but in later physics research, almost all the advances in the fields of basic physics originated from the advancement of accelerator technology.

At the same time, as a young scientist, I hope to give some advice to the academic community.

The quality of future scientific research depends on the efforts of our young scientists. We need higher quality talents so that young scientists can devote themselves to the academic environment of research without any worries, so that young students can become interested in scientific research and be willing to become scientists. I hope that academic research is not only rigorous and interesting, but also interesting and imaginative. I also hope that some achievements of the Nobel Prize winners can arouse some of the interests of young scientists and can inspire them to invest more time and energy in the field of science.

Here, I once again thank all the colleagues at home and abroad, colleagues and friends who have made contributions in the research and development of lithium air batteries!

Thank you deeply for your family’s long-term understanding and support!

Thank you all for coming to the conference!
