Chapter Eleven: Rescue

Just when Lake was about to fall asleep, there was a fierce knock on the door downstairs.

Because generally no one would choose to disturb others' rest at this time, so his sleep was affected and he suddenly opened the quilt, stepped on his feet and looked down from the window next to the bed.

A girl in a dress was slapping the wooden door, and the not-so-wide street immediately began to echo with the sound made by the girl's hands.

For a moment, the quiet shopping street seemed to come alive. Neighbors around the grocery store who were not yet asleep or whose sleep quality was not very good poked their heads out of their homes to look for the source of the sound.

Some people opened the door of their house that was tied with an anti-theft iron chain, and some people stuck their heads out from the second floor to look around, and even went out to search in their pajamas.

The girl who had been unable to see clearly under the shade of the dense trees was suddenly able to be seen clearly under the lights turned on by the lights next door, opposite and by Lake's father.

Lake took a closer look and recognized it. This was the little girl he had helped this afternoon. Although his father helped, he had provided his own help.

Such anxious beatings, and the fact that she came alone. Doesn't this prove that something happened to the woman who loved her deeply? After all, how could she be allowed to go from poverty to someone who would be anxiously looking for her even if she was not seen for a short period of time?

We rushed all the way to Zhongcheng District.

He immediately returned to the bed, put on his outing clothes and shoes, walked out of the room and prepared to rush downstairs to ask what happened.

Doka, who had already gone downstairs, opened the door. In front of him was a girl of about seven or eight years old. He could see clearly under the light in the room.

There are obvious bruises on the corners of the little girl's eyes and the bridge of her nose, and there is a long scar on the little girl's white neck. It can be easily seen that something has been used to stop the bleeding, and now there is not much blood leaking out.

Only a faint bloody scab remained there.

"Little girl, this is not a place for medical treatment and healing." Doka generally doesn't like to get involved in gang wars, even for seemingly young children.

There was a similar situation before. A young man was seriously injured because of a conflict with another gang. He came to him with his seriously injured body and asked for help. Although he later helped to find someone to cure him, it also attracted other people.

Rival gangs targeted him and came to cause trouble repeatedly, and it took him a long time to deal with the problem. So after that, Doka basically refused to find a skilled doctor to treat his injuries at night.

But just when Doka was about to close the door, the girl put a piece of brown paper in her hand into the crack of the door.

When she saw a small hand reaching into the crack of the door that was about to close regardless of the danger, Doka broke out in a cold sweat and hurriedly pressed against the door handle to avoid the girl's arm being pinched and injuring her already inconvenient body.

Adding insult to injury.

Doka's heart was still soft, so he had no choice but to open the door and motioned for the girl to come in and talk.

When the girl limped in obediently, Doka leaned out of the house and apologized to the neighbors who were still watching outside.

"Everyone, go back to sleep. It's okay! It's okay!"

After Doka said that, he didn't care whether the neighbor outside the door had really returned home. He went directly back to the room and leaned against the closed door. He looked at the girl who had knelt on the ground and looked at the kraft paper written by Lake.

I was holding my hair and worrying about what was happening.

"Aya! (Aya?)" Doka and Buti shouted at the same time. Doka came down after seeing clearly the appearance of the door knocker, but Buti only came down because of the noisy sound at the door.

"Please! Please! Save Martha! Martha has been captured by the bad guys!"

Aya didn't notice Doka behind her at all, and Buti who was standing on the stairs in the corner. She just kowtowed to Doka in tears and prayed.

Lake helped Aya who was kneeling on the ground. Just as he was about to gently dust away the dust on Aya's knees, he found that Aya's knees and calves had received strong friction injuries, but because a certain amount of time had passed,

The skin, which was mixed with dirt and dust, was no longer bleeding.

Buti walked down the stairs quickly, and he also noticed Aya's injuries. It was not easy for a seven-year-old child to come here from the slums after suffering so many injuries.

"Aya, what happened? What happened to Martha?"

After Booty and Lake helped Aya to the bench in the grocery store used to entertain customers, Booty reminded Lake and Doka to look at the child, and went upstairs to get his pocket bag to do emergency treatment for the child.

Doka waved his hand and asked Buti to go quickly. After hearing the names of Aya and Martha and the behavior of Buti and Lake, he quickly combined it with the information in the previous chat with Buti in his mind.

Connected.

"Aya, I am the one who can help you, so can you tell me what happened? Otherwise, I don't know how to help you."

Under Lake's expectant eyes, Doka walked up to Aya who was silently bowing her head and crying, and asked in what she thought was the most amiable tone.

Buti quickly walked downstairs, first stopped Doka from asking, and then with her help, he simply treated and bandaged Aya's injuries. At the same time, Lake also knew that Aya had appeared.

Here's the reason.

This evening, after Aya and Martha packed up their stalls and walked out of the Lucas Open-air Market as usual, they planned to go home via Welland Street. However, as soon as they turned into Dirty Water Street, they were squatted.

The two gangsters there took control. Aya saw that Martha was robbed of all the money on her body and was tied up by one of the gangsters named Kado and prepared to take her away.

She suddenly became furious and rushed towards Kado like crazy, biting and trying to snatch her own Martha from both of their hands, but she was a little girl who was only seven years old and malnourished.

How could he beat two strong young gangsters?

She woke up only a few hours after being beaten unconscious by the two of them, and took out the brown paper that Martha had given her in the evening from her pocket.

Because Martha couldn't turn around, she asked Aya to keep many of her important things.

Touching the scene, she looked at the brown paper and remembered Martha pointing at her head and handing it over to her for safekeeping.

"Stupid...stupid...here...here."

This made her already depressed mood even more serious. Fortunately, she was not illiterate like Martha. She was barely literate and immediately ran to the address on the brown paper.

The intermittent words did not make the audience feel any difficulty in understanding, but Doka carried her to the sofa upstairs after crying until she fainted, and looked at Buti with a low look in her eyes.

"This is really a mess. From this girl's description, she should be a cake thief. These guys suddenly appeared in the slums of Cary City a few years ago. Because the city hall in the slums didn't care about many places, they appeared

There have been many cases of missing people, and there are rumors in the slums that they are believers of the devil, and they try to please the devil and evil gods by kidnapping and sacrificing mortals."

"Are the cake thieves human traffickers?" Lake suddenly raised the question.

"Well." Buti nodded and explained, "They are not just human traffickers, I have met them in other places. They are believers in the devil of greed. They call the people who are sacrificed "

"Pastry", they believe that by sacrificing 'pastry' to the demons, they can please them and gain power from them. And the most terrifying thing is, this is true. After satisfying the desires of the greedy demons, they will give them

The believer's own power transforms the believer into a terrifying monster, a monster with only human skin."

"Well, Martha..." Lake was a little frightened, and he hesitated, "This organization has been in Cary City for several years. Why didn't the church members of the Federation of Order come to deal with it? Aren't they all

Are you willing to help poor people?"

"Lake, you have to know that our Order and Good God Union does not have many sect members. It is not like their neutral sect. As far as I know, there are only a few dozen people in the Cary City United Church in the lower city.

.In this big city with hundreds of thousands of people, it’s just a drop in the bucket. I’m not excusing them, I just want to tell you that they are not ineffective and they are beyond their capabilities.”

"Okay, uncle. Don't talk about this problem. Since that little guy Lake took over this trouble on my behalf, I have to help him complete this commission." Doka took a windbreaker from the coat rack and put it on.

, sorting out the equipment he had just put on, "I have to find a few friends for help. Lake keeps an eye on this child. After I rescue the woman named Martha, I will come back to settle the score with you."

"But, dad, you heard what dad said. These monsters are very dangerous and may die!" Lake regretted a little and hurriedly tried to dissuade him. He didn't want his father to die because of his fault.

Injury or even death.

"Lake!" Doka, who was about to go downstairs, suddenly turned back to Lake and slapped Lake on the face. Lake looked at him in disbelief. Why? Why was he worried that he would also make a mistake?

?Why should he be punished this way?

"You know why I am a person respected by everyone, because I know that I should stand up when I can or must stand up, instead of retreating or giving up!"

The usually good-tempered Doka's voice suddenly became stern.

"Yes, I'm sorry, father."

In his haste, Lake forgot his father's creed and attitude towards life. He was actually a stubborn man who was unwilling to change.

"Okay, let's talk about education after we finish. I'll take care of this."

Buti looked at the silent father and son in front of him and hurriedly stepped forward to ease the atmosphere.

"Well, please, uncle. I will pay attention to safety."

Doka answered stiffly, unwilling to even say a word of comfort and apology, and walked downstairs without looking back.

"You know your father is very stubborn. But he also loves you. I don't want you to resent him because of this."
