Chapter 30: The Daydream of a Failed Scholar (Part 1)

Even if Zhang Zijun has cheating tools, he is also afraid of imperial examinations like this in ancient times. This is not a scientific examination, it is simply risking one's life. Now it is divided into three groups. I think candidates from all over the country are relieved. Let's talk about those who have a long way to go.

Candidates, such as those from Guangdong, Shaanxi, Fujian, and Yunnan, rush to Yingtianfu, Shuntianfu, and prepare for the exam. They need to set off at least two months in advance. If they get sick on the way, don't even think about it, so they must prepare for the exam in advance.

There were a lot of people there for a year or half a year, which gave rise to some anecdotes and fox monster legends, some of which were adapted onto the screen, written into novels, and made into TV series.

There was such a thing that made Zhang Zijun laugh out loud when he saw it. It was obvious that the scholar had nothing to do or was trying to make a living by writing an article in exchange for some Cheng Yi. It was obviously fake. Isn't this a fairy tale?

?But in the eyes of the ancients, it was real, absolutely true, real people and real things.

There is a reason why the ancients told lies. Every year, too many people rush to take the exam and want to leap over the dragon gate. Starting from the county exam, they have traveled thousands of miles to finally get close to the scholar-bureaucrats. As long as they take one step further,

They are people within the system, but after a brutal fight, only one out of a hundred is often the winner, and the rest all become losers. Think about how big this ratio is, so the legend of daydreaming and pie-in-the-sky was born.

It was born in response to these failed scholars. All the stories have a happy ending, which is another way to satisfy the resentment after failing.

The traditional drama "Chasing the Fish" describes such a story. Due to the decline of his family and the death of his parents, Zhang Sheng, a scholar, went to live with his father-in-law whom he had been dating since he was a child. The in-laws, a member of the royal family, went to live outside the family. The Wang family kept Zhang Sheng in the palace because of their feelings.

In the dilapidated backyard, he put down his words and said: "If Mr. Zhang can pass the examination, he will marry Miss Mudan, otherwise he will break off the engagement."

There is a thatched house in this courtyard, a desk, a bed, a chair with missing legs and nothing else. There is a pool in front of the house called "Bibo Pool". One day, Zhang Sheng was really depressed.

He talked about his depression to the fish in the pond, told all his troubles, scolded his father-in-law for being unkind, and blamed Miss Mudan for being unkind, and finally said: "Yu'er, you are too

In the cold water house, this is my lonely study. We are in the same boat, so we went back to the house with a sigh of relief!

Unexpectedly, a red carp jumped up in the blue wave pool, and when it emerged from the water, it immediately transformed into Miss Wang. She was Zhang Sheng’s child bride, his fiancée to be married to, and just like that, "Miss Wang" and Zhang

Born in the backyard and determined for life, the red sleeves are fragrant, so free and easy.

The good thing didn't last long. After a long time, Wang Yuanwai discovered it and scolded his daughter angrily. However, his daughter said that she had never been to that dilapidated courtyard and did not like the poor scholar. Wang Yuanwai became suspicious and one day

Yueyuan took a secret look and found that the woman looked exactly like her daughter Peony. She was shocked and went to court, performing a trick of two peonies in court.

Continuing the story in this way seems to be contrary to the teachings of the saints, which makes many people who read the books of saints unhappy. However, the person who compiled this story is obviously a master at it, using Spring and Autumn writing techniques to push the plot to its peak.

After the two peonies went to court, there were chicken feathers all over the ground. The Lady Guanyin really couldn't stand it, so she sent down the heavenly soldiers to capture the carp spirit. At this time, the carp spirit said to Zhang Sheng: "This is the carp spirit of Shuifu. How can I see it?"

Zhang Sheng is really unlucky. With his talent and learning, he should have been the number one scholar a long time ago, so he pretended to be Peony and came to a private meeting, and then fell in love with Zhang Sheng."

Zhang Sheng was so moved after hearing this that he burst into tears. Comparing the two peonies, one bullies the poor and loves the rich, and the other is deeply affectionate and righteous. I didn’t say it, so it doesn’t matter even if you are transformed from a carp spirit. At this moment

, the heavenly soldiers came down, and created a plot of the carp spirit fighting the heavenly soldiers, which was interspersed with many carp spirits and Zhang Sheng's life and death. The Goddess of Mercy couldn't bear it anymore, and went down to earth to subdue the carp spirit herself.

The carp spirit asks Guanyin to be willing to pull out the fish scales on her body, leave behind a thousand years of practice and become a mortal, and spend her life with Zhang Sheng. It’s another plot of pulling out the fish scales. It hurts. In the end, she becomes a mortal. The ending is the same as

Zhang Shengfu returned home from singing as a concubine, and from then on he lived a life like a god on earth. I weaved while you carried water, and I made tea while you recited poems.

The plot has developed to this point, and any failed scholar who has read this book will naturally have endless imagination in his heart...                         How wonderful!

In this story, the yearning of all failed scholars is satisfied. Even if they know it is false, they will take it seriously. Why haven't the students encountered such a good thing? They are envious, jealous, and finally hateful. They hate the failure of the exam and the dissatisfaction after failing. What if

Who said that this is a story cheat sheet that cannot be trusted, it will be rejected immediately, it is inhumane!

The next thing I want to talk about is a "real" thing that happened in the second year of Jingtai. It is also another daydream. Wu Sheng was rushing to take an exam, met a robber on the road, was penniless, and stayed in a temple for the night. The temple owner said to Wu Sheng:

"How can the donor go to Beijing with so little money? It is better to work first and get some money to pay for traveling."

Apart from being able to write a few strokes of Chinese calligraphy, the scholar had no other skills, so he had no choice but to agree to a job with the temple owner: he could guard someone's grave for a month and earn three taels of silver.

In this way, the temple owner took Wu Sheng to the entrusted master's house, a large courtyard. The original owner's house had long been empty. There was a new tomb in the courtyard. The temple owner said: "This job is very suitable for you. You can do it in the courtyard."

You can study in the study room while reading and guarding the tomb. There is no need to waste time. Just go to the living room next door to burn incense sticks every day. You will be paid after the full moon. A small temple will send you vegetarian meals every day, so you don’t have to worry about being hungry.

.”

Wu Sheng thought it was a good idea, so he stayed there, and lived peacefully for three days. On this day, he went out for a walk out of boredom, and came to the new tomb in the backyard. When he saw the tombstone, it said: "

Only then did I realize that she was a young lady. It was a pity that she died like this at such a young age. I sighed and shook my head and went back. Then I came to a building again. When I looked up, the plaque on it read "Wanqing Building"

", there is also a poem on the pillars on both sides, on the left: "The cold rain comes to Wu at night, and I see off the guests in Chushan alone in the morning."; on the right: "Relatives and friends in Luoyang are asking each other, and a heart of ice is in a jade pot." I couldn't help but sigh,

Wonderful!

Out of curiosity, he pushed open the door and entered. It might be that no one had been staying there for a long time. The inside was a little dark and smelled of mold, but it was quite clean and tidy. It was obvious that this was a boudoir. Wu Sheng was a little embarrassed.

I wanted to quit, but I caught a glimpse of a painting on the wall. There was a beautiful woman in the painting. When I took a closer look, the beauty in the painting seemed to be looking at Wu Sheng with a sad look in her eyes, and a shy expression. It made people want to stop looking at it, and they felt guilty.

A sense of pity and cherishment gradually arises.

Wu Sheng looked at the painting for a long time and decided to take away the beauty painting and hang it in his residence, so that he could see each other every day and it would be a pleasure to accompany him with the beauty painting.

Not long ago, Wu Sheng was relaxing in the courtyard, looking at the fallen leaves all over the ground, and realized that it was autumn. The sun setting in the west had dyed the branches in the courtyard golden. He couldn't help but lament the impermanence of life. The Buddha said that there are eight sufferings in life.

: "Birth is suffering, old age is suffering, illness is suffering, death is suffering, separation from love is suffering, resentment and hatred are suffering, not getting what you want is suffering, and the five yin beings are suffering." But the Buddha forgot that there is another suffering, the suffering of being a scholar in the imperial examination.

In the midst of self-pity and sorrow, he saw an old woman cleaning fallen leaves in the courtyard, so he came up to greet her and asked, "Is your mother-in-law a member of this family?" The old woman ignored her and was busy cleaning herself. Wu Sheng saw that the old woman did not want to answer.

I just wanted to turn around and go back to the study, but just when I turned around I heard the old woman behind me say: "Know the joy and forget the pain. Life is running all the time, there is no end, the past has no beginning, and the future has the end. Only by escaping from life and death can we be free."

The ultimate goal is to have my own real home, Amitabha lotus blossoms, and the Paradise is my home. This is what Miss Wanqing is like."

When Wu Sheng heard this, he obviously said that he couldn't think clearly and was looking for trouble. He wanted to know the joy and forget the pain.

Wu Sheng replied: "I would like to ask my mother-in-law, how did Miss Wanqing die?"

The old woman put down her broom and said: "She died of illness, but there is no cure for this disease. I can only watch her escape from life and death. That is the ultimate goal. Now she has her own real home."

Wu Sheng asked again: "What disease does Miss Wanqing have? Is it really incurable?"

The old woman sighed leisurely and said: "In this world, there is a disease that can kill a good living person, and it is 'lovesickness'. Miss Wanqing suffered from this disease. She died without medicine and stone. How pitiful."

Wu Sheng asked again: "Miss Wanqing comes from a scholarly family and has beautiful face. Is that the prince or grandson who dislikes her?"

The old woman replied: "It would be nice if we could know who Miss Wanqing's lovesickness is, but the person who hurt her happened to be in a dream. Ever since Miss Wanqing had a dream, she has not thought about food or food.
