Chapter 8 The First Day

Arakawa Ward, a warehouse of a freight company.

"Sato, this is Torataro Maruyama, a fellow countryman of mine. Just call him Torataro. It's your first day on duty today. This guy has some strength. Please help take care of him."

"No problem Kashiwagi-san, leave it to me. Torataro, come with me."

Shirakawa Kaede was busy registering for school, and Torataro also started his part-time job life under Kashiwagi's leadership. Thanks to Kashiwagi's care, Torataro was assigned to work as an unloader in the warehouse of Kashiwagi's company.

Now that the country's economy is booming, people are needed everywhere. As an unloader position that does not require technical requirements, most people can be qualified.

It's easy to arrange for Torataro to join the company. It's just that he is not a formal member of the company, but is taking the labor dispatch route.

Labor dispatch, is this word familiar to you? Yes, it is dispatched. Compared with formal employees, there are no welfare subsidies at all, and wages are paid on a daily basis.

The company does not bear risks and can let them leave at any time without any compensation disputes. Is there such a good thing? Capitalists are ecstatic.

In the 1970s and 1980s, little RB was already very familiar with this form of employment that would become the mainstream in the temporary labor market in China.

"Nonsense, who else could it be? You are the only one in the whole warehouse who is in a daze. He is indeed the 'Golden Egg' from the Northeast. He is so stupid."

Slim-fitting little suit, tall figure, delicate eyebrows. Needless to say, it is true that a man relies on his clothes and a horse relies on his saddle.

The shipment allocated to him should have been completed long ago. The strange thing is that every time there is the last bit left, the moment he turns around, it is filled again.

Torataro is very optimistic, and the work he is given is quite to his liking. For hard work, the most important thing he lacks is strength.

"Hey, you guys are not working and what are you doing? The trucks waiting to pick up the goods are lined up for a kilometer outside. There are not enough goods to be shipped out today, so they are all staying to work overtime."

Kiryu Juichiro, who lives in the same dormitory, is arrogantly arranging his long, unruly hair in front of the mirror. What's even more arrogant is that his suit is actually white!

April 1st is the entrance ceremony of Meiji University. On this day, all freshmen are dressed in formal attire and participate in school group activities.

"Torataro, work hard and don't cause trouble."

"Don't worry, Uncle Kashiwagi, I understand." Torataro waved goodbye to Kashiwagi, then turned around and bowed to Kashiwagi. "Sato-san, please take good care of me in the future."

His entrance ceremony was at Ikuta Campus, and Shirakawa Kaede didn't know why he came to Suginami District when he couldn't live in a dormitory so close to Tama District.

Torataro is impulsive, but he is not stupid. Since he is here to make a living and earn money to hire a better doctor for his mother, he should work seriously and a little grievance is nothing.

Sato took Torataro around the warehouse, probably told him some precautions, and after asking him to pay attention to his safety, he went about his business on his own.

Just based on his coquettish behavior yesterday, jumping back and forth between Buddha and God, Bai Chuanfeng knew that he was not an ordinary person.

Taking a deep breath, Torataro unclenched his clenched fists, and his eyebrows seemed to have lost their vitality and drooped.

Sato saw that although Torataro was a little rough in appearance, he had a good attitude. He was not picky like a young boy who was just starting out and didn't know what the world was up to. He couldn't help but nodded secretly.

Kashiwagi knew Torataro's character and was afraid that he would not know how to restrain himself and cause trouble. Tokyo is not like a deer, no one will accommodate you, and those who cannot bear the injustice are destined to be eliminated.

After finishing cleaning up, Shirakawa Kaede and Kiryu Shiichiro went to the school auditorium together. There, the president of Mingda University would deliver a televised speech through the closed-circuit television system, and all major campuses would receive the signal simultaneously.

Torataro looked at the people coming and going in the warehouse and the forklifts running around non-stop. He was excited about the first day of work, but also a little confused and reserved.

Seeing his deflated appearance, the people watching laughed even harder and even started pointing.

Thinking about walking to school with him later, Bai Chuanfeng felt a toothache. It turns out that some people need courage even to walk with him.

The solitary Torataro pursed his lips a few times. Then he rolled up his sleeves without saying a word and started working.

As a native of RB, Torataro certainly knows what the "golden egg" means.

My mother's pale face, Kashiwagi's care, and Shirakawa Kaede's promise to make a lot of money flashed back and forth in my mind.

I don’t know if Xiaofeng’s side is going well. Lying on the tatami exhausted, Torataro thought at the last moment when he fell asleep that it would be good to go to college.

In April, the grass grows and the orioles fly. The most obvious manifestation on campus is the pink and white cherry blossoms blooming along the road. The warm breeze blows, and the petals are fluttering.

Cardboard boxes were stuffed into the carriage one by one, and his waist gradually lowered.

Especially everyone's ridiculing glances and indifferent laughter stung him deeply. Torataro's pair of thick eyebrows were so aroused that they seemed to come alive and swam back and forth.

"Now, what you have to do is to neatly place the goods delivered by the forklift in the truck compartment. Save space and put as much as possible.

"Hey, kid. Don't be in a daze, come over and help."

It is indeed good to go to college, at least that's what Bai Chuanfeng thinks at the moment.

The same was true for Shirakawa Kaede. The clothes he was wearing were specially bought by his mother when he took a bus to the city. Because Shirakawa Kaede was thin, and he didn't like the wide-shouldered and fat suit styles of RB men in this period.

Sato didn't know when he appeared, scolding everyone to work quickly. Seeing everyone disperse, he finally took a deep look at Torataro, patted him on the shoulder, and said nothing.

This outfit immediately raised his overall image to more than one level. He no longer looked like a country boy in the dust at the beginning.

Torataro was stunned and pointed at himself, "Me?"

As for persuading him to wear dark formal clothes like everyone else, Shirakawa Kaede never even thought of it.

This kind of beautiful scenery is especially liked by Kiryu Shiichiro. Under the cherry blossom tree, the sexy white suit. The picture is so beautiful that Shirakawa Kaede dare not look at it.

Just like a spring that never dries up, when one scoop is taken away, another scoop will emerge, as if it will never dry up.

After Hezi cut it himself, he finally got what he wanted.

Fortunately, most of the courses in the university can be arranged by oneself, so there is no need to travel back and forth every day, so the courses can be concentrated in two or three days a week.

His face turned dark red with anger, and he turned around to teach the guy a lesson. But when he was about to take a step forward, he endured it.

The coworker's ridicule made the people around him laugh. That silly round black head was just a "golden egg."

The most important thing is to be careful not to damage the goods, otherwise the whole day's work will be in vain, and even the goods will be posted upside down. "

The journey lasts thirty to forty minutes each time, for what purpose.

Speaking of another giant in the dormitory, Yamashita Daiharu, the building has long been empty. Perhaps he is crowded on the subway heading to Tama District at this time.

If Shirakawa Kaede hadn't pulled him, this guy probably wouldn't have even wanted to attend the entrance ceremony and would have gone to enjoy the cherry blossoms.

When the two came to the auditorium, facing thousands of pairs of eyes, Shirakawa Kaede felt his scalp numb. Especially when everyone noticed the weirdo Kiryu Shiichiro, they even caused bursts of exclamations, and then...

Excited cheers and laughter.

Alas, did your college life just start as a foil to the protagonist who attracted everyone’s attention?

But think about it these days, even the Red Army can carry out propaganda on campus with great fanfare, and students often hold demonstrations. So wearing a white suit doesn't seem to be a big deal.

In the magical and chaotic 1970s, communism and capital, Westernization and tradition, rural and urban areas, the sparks that emerged from their collision. Even the booming economy could not hide its myriad of strangeness.

Happy New Year!
