The first time to test the City God

During the Qing Dynasty, there was a scholar named Tao of Song Dynasty. He took part in the imperial examinations many times, but failed many times and became depressed and ill.

On this day, Song Tao was lying in bed. Suddenly, the door of the room opened, and a man who looked like a government servant walked into the room holding a white horse and said, "Mr. Song, please follow me to the examination room to take the exam."

Song Tao's face was full of confusion and hesitantly said: "The exam period is still far away, and the examiner has not yet taken office. What test should I take?"

The yamen servant said impatiently: "Go if you are told to go, there is so much nonsense!"

Seeing the fierce look on the Yamen servant's face, Song Tao did not dare to contradict him, so he had to follow him out. The Yamen servant pointed at the white horse and said, "Come up."

Song Tao shook his head and said: "I can't ride a horse, I'm afraid of falling."

The yamen servant said: "How can you fall when I'm taking care of you? Don't worry." Before he finished speaking, he picked up Song Tao's collar, threw him onto the horse's back, and then slapped his palm hard on the horse's buttocks.

One blow caused the white horse to feel pain and run like lightning.

The yamen servant smiled slightly, moved his steps, and followed behind without haste or slowness. The white horse galloped across with hooves, and the dust was rolling in the place it passed, like a strong wind passing by. It was indescribably fast, and it was dozens of miles away in an instant.

The yamen servant was strolling around in the courtyard, looking elegant and walking, no different from ordinary people. But strangely enough, no matter how fast the white horse ran, it could never escape the yamen servant's tracking. There was a distance of four feet and eight inches between one person and one horse.

Not more, not less than an inch.

Song Tao looked at him and nodded secretly, "Shrink to the ground, this government officer is not a mortal."

While he was thinking wildly, the white horse neighed and stopped under a city wall. Song Tao opened his eyes and looked around, seeing that the city wall was tall and solid, and thought to himself, "What a high city wall, at least nine feet high, which is twice as high as the Forbidden City."

"

The yamen servant held the reins and entered the street from the east city gate. Song Tao looked around and saw that the street was straight and wide, paved with clear marble, enough to accommodate eight horse-drawn carriages. There were restaurants and shops on both sides, and people shuttled between them, all with splendid jade belts.

, the spirit is high, what a beautiful city: prosperous and wealthy, far better than Kyoto.

Song Tao was dumbfounded, envious, and in a trance, he had been taken into a government office. The government servant whispered, "This is the important place of the Immortal Family. You are not allowed to ride horses or sedan chairs within a radius of 100 meters. Come down quickly."

Song Tao dismounted as instructed, and the Yamen servants led the way and invited him into the hall. The hall was covered with tables and chairs, carved with patterns, and made of precious red sandalwood.

In the middle of the hall, there were about a dozen officials sitting, all of whom were strangers. Most of them were unknown to Song Tao. There was only one divine general with red phoenix eyes, silkworm eyebrows, a two-foot-long beard, and a stern face that showed no anger or authority.

, but you can tell at a glance that it is Guan Yu and Guan Erye.

Guan Yu looked at Song Tao, nodded and smiled, pointed at a pair of tables and chairs on the left hand side of the hall, and said: "Sit down."

Song Tao sat down as he was told, and saw the table in front of him covered with rice paper, a bamboo tube on the left hand side, and several brushes in the barrel; an inkstone on the right hand side, filled with ink, which had a strong fragrance, and was actually the best tribute: purple jade.

Light ink.

Opposite Song Tao, there is also a pair of tables and chairs. Sitting on the chair is a scholar in white. He is in his thirties, fair-skinned, and is a very handsome man.

Guan Yu pointed at the man in white and introduced: "This is Zhang Xiucai from Changshan. You two are both scholars. Please get closer to me."

Song Tao cupped his hands and said, "Brother Zhang, I'm Song Tao, this is polite."

Zhang Xiucai quickly returned the gift, "I don't dare. Is Brother Song a scholar in the 28th year of Kangxi's reign?"

Song Tao nodded and said: "That's right. Alas, time has gone by. Twenty-four years have passed in the blink of an eye. Twenty-four years ago, Brother Yu was a scholar. Twenty-four years later, Brother Yu is still a scholar. He took the imperial examination every year and failed every year.

Sun Shan made Brother Zhang laugh." After saying this, he sighed.

Zhang Xiucai also sighed and said: "We are both from the end of the world, and my situation is not much better than that of Brother Song. I took the imperial examination in the 37th year of Kangxi's reign, and took the exam six times, but I was only a scholar.

I don’t know when I won the exam.”

Both of them had talents that they had never met before. At this moment, they expressed their sincere feelings to each other, and gradually developed a feeling of confidants.

Suddenly a cough was heard, and an immortal in the hall said: "You two, don't sigh, Xuan Ye is a child who doesn't know talents, it's because he is blind. I will give you justice. Listen up, I'm out now."

There is a question, and you are limited to two people and one stick of incense to complete the essay. If you can pass the test, I will give you a reward."

When Song and Zhang heard this, they glared angrily and said at the same time: "Bold, your Majesty is the True Destiny Dragon. You are not allowed to be rude to His Majesty."

The immortal smiled and said, "Why am I so rude?"

Song Tao said: "It is rude for you to call the Holy One a child."

The immortal said: "Do you know who I am? How old am I? I am the Nine Heavens Thunder Emperor and I have lived for 88,000 years. At my age, why not call Kangxi a boy? Okay, stop talking nonsense.

Listen to the question."

Song and Zhang were relieved and said in unison: "Please give me a question."

Lei Di said: "One person and two people, intentional and unintentional. This is the question I asked."

Zhang Xiucai smiled and said: "This question is easy. I don't need a stick of incense to compose it, I can solve it in half a stick of incense."

Song Tao said: "I can solve it with a quarter of a stick of incense."

The two of them had a well-thought-out approach and their writing skills were as fast as flying. They wrote the article in no time and submitted it.

Lei Di took the test paper and read it, and praised: "Both of them did a good job in their articles, but Song Tao's was especially wonderful. Especially this sentence: "If you do good with intention, you will not be rewarded even if it is good; if you do evil without intention, you will not be rewarded even if it is evil."

Punishment. 'Wonderfully written, wonderfully written."

He paused for a moment and said loudly: "Song Tao heard the seal: I will make you the City God of Henan, in charge of life and death in the world, reward good and punish evil, and you will take office immediately."

Song Tao shook his head and said: "Thank you for your support, but I have a seventy-year-old mother to serve you. My parents are here and I won't be traveling far, so I can't accept my orders."

Lei Di nodded and said: "Left and right, take a look at the book of life and death. Check for me, how many years does Song Tao's mother have left to live?"

Immediately, people looked through the book of life and death and reported: "Hui Tianzun, Song Tao's biological mother, Mrs. Zhang, still has nine years to live."

Lei Di nodded and said: "I know." He looked at Song Tao and said with a smile: "Young man, you are very filial, yes, yes. In this way, I will reserve the position of City God for you, and Zhang Xiucai will take over for you temporarily.

After nine years, when your mother passes away, you can go to Henan to serve as an official. Do you have any objections to this arrangement?"

Song Tao smiled happily: "Thank you, thank you very much."

Lei Di looked at Zhang Xiucai and said with a smile: "Zhang Sheng, pack up and set off." After saying this, he took out a bamboo horse from his sleeve and said: "This horse can travel thousands of miles in a day, chasing the wind."

Electricity gives you the strength to make your feet."

Zhang Xiucai scratched his head, his face full of confusion: "The bamboo horse is only a few inches long and will break into pieces when pinched. How can it be ridden?"

Lei Di laughed loudly: "Just try to blow on the horse's back."

Zhang Xiucai blew as he was told, and suddenly heard a neighing sound. The room was filled with golden light. The bamboo horse soared in the wind and turned into a living, flesh-and-blood horse: tall and long-legged, fat and smooth, with golden hair all over its body, shining like gold.

Hui.

Zhang Xiucai couldn't help being happy. He reached out and stroked the yellow horse's neck and praised, "The resurrection of the bamboo horse is strange, strange, good luck, good luck!"

Before he finished speaking, the hall was empty, and all the gods had left without knowing when.

Zhang Xiucai held the yellow horse in his hand and said to Song Tao: "Brother Song, I will go to Henan to take office first. Nine years later, you will take my place. Well, there are no gifts for us when we meet. I will give you a poem: 'There are flowers.

There is always wine and spring, and the night is bright without candles or lamps. I am leaving." After saying this, he rode his horse and flew away.

Song Tao smiled faintly, and suddenly his body was as light as a wisp of blue smoke, blown by the wind, and flew hundreds of miles back to his residence in the blink of an eye.

After returning home, Song Tao discovered that his soul had left his body and had been dead for three days. His body was displayed in the coffin, and his mother was crying beside him.

Without saying anything, he quickly returned to his place and got into the coffin with a whoosh. Just as he was about to walk out of the coffin, he suddenly noticed that the coffin board was tightly covered and nailed with long iron nails, making it difficult to move at all.

He had to be punched, kicked and beaten with ping pong.

His mother heard the thunderous noise outside, and was frightened, scared and happy. She quickly called for help from her neighbors. They all tried their best to pry open the coffin board and save Song.

Tao Yi Ming.

Nine years later, Zhang died of illness. Song Tao finished the funeral for his old mother, bathed and changed clothes, and lay down on the bed to wait for death. Soon his soul came out of his shell and wandered outside. He saw servants gathered to welcome him on the car that took office.

The horse has been waiting for a long time.
