Chapter 7 Fearless

Rear Richmond Turner felt lucky that when his fleet came to Guadalone's sight, the Japanese side did not conduct any attacks.

"Or it's because there is no radar on the island, or they didn't find where we are!"

These questions are in his mind, but based on his understanding of the Japanese, none of them are the correct answers.

"They know we're here, and we're about to launch an attack!"

Looking at the dark Guadalam from the telescope, waiting for the time to launch the shelling at dawn. But the Japanese's reaction was too abnormal, which made him feel a little worried.

He was worried that he would appear until the soldiers of the First Marine Division, who was a landing vanguard, began to board the ship, and then he heard the following news.

"How is this possible? It's so hard to believe! The Archangel and Permanent medium-sized aircraft carriers were just sunk by the Japanese, and the Honor carrier was seriously injured. It can be said that our air support is over!"

"These Japanese who are more cunning than foxes!"

Rear Admiral Richmond Turner cursed the Japanese while looking at the telegram. He held the telegram and hammered heavily on the side of the ship.

Now the landing group he commanded, escorted by 50 merchant ships and 33 destroyers, is preparing to attack. However, it was not until a group of Marines that Lieutenant General Robert Gormley sent the news that the air assault group suffered heavy losses due to the attack by Japanese naval carrier-based aircraft and could not participate in the attack.

"Damn it, without them, how could these young men have climbed onto those islands?"

Just as he was holding a telescope and looking at the sea and sky, the air cover group should appear. At this time, an angry commander of the First Marine Division, Major General Van der Grift.

"Turner, is Lieutenant General Robert Golmley crazy? He wants our young men to take risks without any air cover?"

To be honest, Rear Admiral Richmond Turner also wanted to know the answer to this question, but he could not complain to his commander like Major General Van der Grift.

"Hey, sir, please don't worry. At least I just heard that Rear Admiral Daniel Callahan will be honored to use the battleships he command to provide enough artillery cover for your landing troops. In addition, have you forgotten those cormorant gunboats? I think they are about to arrive!"

While Rear General Richmond Turner was scorching his stomach and looking for some reason to comfort Van der Grift, he saw the latter looking into the sky and suddenly lamented.

"If I were you, I would like to issue an air defense alarm now. In addition, the sailors on the merchant ships should be careful. They are facing air strikes!"

Rear Admiral Richmond Turner, who was shocked, turned his telescope in surprise, and some fighter planes were flying above Guadao. He had already made a lot of explanations with the Japanese and recognized them. They were the hateful "Kamikaze multi-purpose bombers" of the Japanese. According to Stuka's leading position, they would also make intimidating screams when diving attacks.

After saying that, Rear Admiral Richmond, who was anxious to leave, suddenly turned around and his eyes were filled with more pity.

"Vandergrift, let your young men who are already in the landing craft get out of there quickly, God bless them!"

Faced with the sudden attack of the Japanese Air Force on Guadalone, the US landing forces were stunned. Major General Van der Grift's cigar in his mouth also fell from his mouth.

Lieutenant General Robert Gormley's flight team could not come, and now they were counterattacked by enemy planes on Gua Island. If they were not lucky, the Marines on those merchant ships would suffer great losses.

The landing operation was delayed like this. Without the protection of fighter jets, the Marines who got off from the merchant ship to the landing craft would probably not have good results.

The sky above Guadalam is like a dark cloud composed of mosquitoes flying above the sky. The taller ones are composed of Zero fighters and the "Kamikaze multi-purpose bombers". There are groups of little demons used to fight tanks on the sea.

Van der Grift couldn't imagine that if the 25mm machine gun (export type) above was used to shoot the landing craft, or 8 50mm, they could blow up the tank top armor rockets to attack the merchant ship. They could directly hit the merchant ship more miserable than honeycombs.

Of course, this is not as good as the 35mm rotating cannon on the WZ-2 "Fire Crow" attack helicopter used by the Chinese Federation, and 24 rockets launched from rocket launches, or the Thorn-i Vision/Infrared Anti-tank missiles carried.

Despite such a small demon's appearance, there is no doubt that it is an absolute nightmare for the Marines who are preparing to land.

As a Marine Corps officer, Van der Grift may not understand the power of the razor rotor attack aircraft that the Army likes. But looking at the fighter jets flying over Gua Island is enough for him to get numb.

"The Marines are in trouble, we can't let the login group be ruined!"

Rear Admiral Daniel Callahan, who originally held a cup of coffee on the bridge, when he received a report from the radar control officer, he casually referred to Rear Admiral Daniel Callahan as the chief of staff of Lieutenant General Robert Gormley, led two heavy cruisers, San Francisco and Portland, three light cruisers, Helena, Atlanta, Juno, and eight destroyers, as artillery support fleets landed on the Marine Corps.

But now the order he issued was to form an air defense formation in the fleet.

"...Form an air defense formation, and we must go forward between the transportation landing group and Guadacanal Island. God bless us, if the landing group is finished, then we..."

After issuing the order, he threw the coffee cup in his hand on the side of the ship and ran into the cabin with his adjutant. As the sound of the air defense alarm on the warship sounded, watertight doors were tightly closed.

"Hi, not bad, Major General Daniel Callahan is here to help us. He wants destroyers to protect the merchant ship and leave quickly, leaving only one, and asks those Marine soldiers to board the ship again!"

When Rear Richmond Turner heard the news, he understood that the artillery support fleet saved almost everyone's lives, except for the courage of Rear Admiral Daniel Callahan and the risks he took.

Admiral Daniel Callahan looked at the transport ships that were leaving quickly, and then looked back at the closer and closer Japanese fighter planes. He stopped the adjutant's suggestion of the command to cast smoke.

"No, we don't let the smoke go, we want these little Japanese devils to see the courage of our US Navy."

As he spoke, the sky was the first "Kamikaze multi-purpose bomber" to dive. The sirens on its fuselage let out a shrill scream.

Almost at the same time, the anti-aircraft guns and anti-aircraft rockets that had just turned the guns, shot barrage into the sky.

It is impossible not to mention that the US Navy has increased its air defense capabilities several times since it started joining the Second World due to the Pearl Harbor incident.

I have to say good things about American engineers here. As one of the excellent engineers in the world, their precision may not be able to surpass Germany, or they lack the support of the high-tech part of the Chinese federal engineers.

But innovation is one of the best aspects of American engineering. After they fully understood the remote-controlled cannons on the B-1 Albatross long-range heavy bomber, they now boarded the US warships. Before participating in the Guadalam battle this time, almost 100% of the US warships were installed on this plug-in artillery.

The 20mm diameter, quad-mounted remote control module can adopt a complete plug-in method. Just use wires to connect them with the TV in front of the cabin and the gunner.

These artillery were originally like a life-saving compartment hanging on the side of the ship. When the gunners turned on the gun's power, these four-barrel anti-aircraft guns would protrude from the original sealed barrel and form an attack range of 180 degrees in length and 180 degrees in width from the plane where it adhered.

Because it was originally a remote-controlled cannon on the fighter plane, all the entire set of cannons were not very large. The ammunition was supplemented from the safety door inside the cabin.

Although this easy-to-arrange remote-controlled artillery will leave many garbage formed by shell casings and self-disassembly chains on the aisles of the deck after firing, it is undoubtedly a very excellent air defense firepower to ensure the safety of the gunner and maintain the fire density.

They "hang" everywhere on the battleships, and use tracer bombs to make the entire battleship look like a hedgehog full of spikes. In the sky, facing such hedgehogs for diving attacks is definitely a test related to courage for girls from Guadalam who participate in the "Kamikaze Multi-purpose Bomber".
