15 Bewitched (Part 1)
Compared with the majestic Highgarden, the Mulundall family castle seems much shabby.
The thick walls, narrow windows, and dim candlelight all made the banquet hall look extremely cramped and even eerie.
The food at the dinner was not very rich, including barbecue, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and a vegetable salad.
Of course, Samwell had no complaints. While feasting, he talked to Mark about his well-behaved monkey.
When he heard that the monkeys actually came from the Summer Islands, Samwell became very interested and asked many related questions.
For example, where the Midsummer Islands are located, there may be merchant ships coming and going, the island's culture, race, special products, etc.
It was rare for Mark to meet a knight who was also interested in the Summer Islands. He immediately felt like a confidant and talked about what he knew.
Viscount Martin watched from the sidelines as his son got into a heated fight with Samwell so quickly, and couldn't help but frown secretly.
He glanced at Todd Flowers, who was immersed in eating and drinking without saying a word, and asked:
"Sir Todd, are you a knight of the Tyrell family?"
Todd put down his knife and fork and said, "Yes, Lord Viscount."
Viscount Martin nodded thoughtfully, and was about to ask again when Samwell suddenly said:
"Yes, Lord Viscount, Knight Todd is the 'noble illegitimate son' of Qingting Island. This time, he was ordered by Lady Olenna to personally lead the team and follow me to open up the Crimson Mountains."
It really is the army of House Tyrell.
Viscount Martin was secretly shocked.
He didn't know that Samwell's words just now deliberately blurred the distinction between soldiers and recruits of the Tyrell family, so he thought that the more than two hundred people in the pioneering team were all elite soldiers of the Tyrell family.
"I didn't expect that the Duke would value you so much that he would send such an elite army to accompany you to explore."
Samwell chuckled, shook his head and said, "Lord Viscount, you are absolutely wrong."
"Oh? What's wrong?"
"Is there anything worthy of the Duke's attention? The real reason why he sent troops is actually to win the new territory of the Crimson Mountains."
"That's it." Viscount Martin obviously believed it.
Because he himself didn't feel that the waste in front of him was really worthy of the Duke of Metz sending so many troops to follow him.
However, a new problem arises -
Since the Duke of Metz values the new territory so much, why would he send such a waste to develop it?
Is there still a shortage of knights under the Tyrell family?
Of course, even if Viscount Martin despises Samwell from the bottom of his heart, he would not ask such a question face to face, otherwise it would be too rude.
Unexpectedly, without Viscount Martin asking, Samwell actually expressed the doubts in the lord of Highland City's heart:
"Lord Viscount, are you wondering why the Duke sent me to pioneer?"
Viscount Martin smiled slightly and boasted without changing his expression:
"The Tully family has always produced outstanding generals. The Duke must have valued your ability to lead troops."
This made everyone present blush a little.
Even the black and white monkey squeaked and waved its arms, as if it couldn't stand the lies that Viscount Martin was telling with his eyes open.
Samwell shook his head and smiled bitterly:
"Lord Viscount, how can I lead an army? Otherwise, I would not have been kicked out of the house by my father and deprived of my right to inherit. The reason why Your Lordship sent me to pioneer is because I dare to do things that others dare not do."
"What's going on?" Viscount Martin asked quickly.
However, Samwell smiled slightly, looked around, but remained silent.
Viscount Martin immediately understood and knew that the other party did not want to speak in public.
He hesitated for a moment, but finally couldn't help but be curious, so he put down his knife and fork, picked up a napkin, wiped his mouth, and extended an invitation to Samwell:
"I have collected some wines from Qingting Island, Sam, are you interested in tasting them?"
"It's my pleasure."
Samwell got up and followed Viscount Martin out of the banquet hall and into a small room next to it.
Viscount Martin took a bottle of wine from the wine rack and poured two glasses.
The refreshing aroma of wine soon filled the entire cabin.
Samwell took the glass, thanked him, and took a sip.
Sweet and refreshing, it is indeed a fine wine.
However, the two of them didn't really come here to taste wine.
"Lord Viscount, you must be curious to know why the Duke of Metz sent me to open up the Crimson Mountains, right?"
Viscount Martin shook the silver wine glass in his hand and said nothing. He just looked at Samwell quietly, waiting for his next words.
"Highland City is at the foot of the Crimson Mountains, so I believe you, Lord Viscount, also know that if you go deeper into the southwest, not only will the land be barren and densely populated by wild beasts, but also the ferocious savage tribes will plunder. Even if you forcefully occupy a piece of land, it will be very difficult.
It is difficult to develop and grow.
This is the reason why none of the Riverbend Knights want to come here to open up.
However, I am different.
I am a waste abandoned by my family. I have no way out, so I am naturally willing to give this place a try. Moreover, I have a clever trick that can make the territory grow and develop rapidly——
Loot!”
Viscount Martin listened attentively for a long time, but when he heard such an answer, he suddenly laughed and said:
"Sam, you don't want to rob those savages, do you? But I have to remind you that the most valuable thing they have on them is probably their crude animal skin clothing."
Samwell shook his head and began to lie:
"Lord Viscount, you misunderstood. My new territory will be built on the north shore of the Summer Sea, near the mouth of the Turbulent River. You said that I would not rob so many wealthy merchant ships coming and going, but instead
To find some poor savage?"
Viscount Martin immediately narrowed his eyes after hearing this.
After looking up and down at the young pioneer knight in front of him, he spoke again:
"Your Excellency Caesar, you don't need me to remind you about the punishment for pirates in the Reach, right?"
"Of course I know." Samwell shrugged, with a relaxed look on his face, "Lord Viscount, have you forgotten that the Tyrell family sent more than two hundred elite soldiers to develop with me, and the leader,
Still from Qingting Island."
Viscount Martin's face became cautious, but there was still some disbelief in his eyes.
Samwell continued:
"Of course, Lady Olenna's intention is for me to plunder those Dornish merchant ships, and will not attack other merchant ships wantonly."
"Even so, once this matter is exposed, your reputation will be ruined and you may even be sent to the gallows!"
Samwell laughed and said:
"Do I still have a good reputation now? Besides, if I don't do this, how can I open up a new territory in a place like the Crimson Mountains?"
Viscount Martin gave Samwell a deep look: "Knight Caesar, you are nothing like the rumors."
Samwell shook the wine glass in his hand and said with a smile:
"The rumors are not credible, Lord Viscount."
Viscount Martin also smiled: "In that case, I wish you success in your development."
Samwell suddenly took a few steps closer and said:
"Lord Viscount, do you want to make some money too?"
