Chapter 229: Anonymous Old Monk
Shiliya put her hands together and said with an infinite worship look: "Diting has the ability to 'sit down and listen to 800 on the ground and listen to 3000 on the ears', because when the divine beast listens, it often leans over to the ground and listens with his ears close to the ground, so it is also called 'earth listening'."
"At the same time, the earth also contains the meaning of the mind. Ksitigarbha's verse praises: bow to the original pure mind, the infinite Buddha's great compassionate master. Therefore, those who can listen with their hearts can "listen well". Listening can distinguish the sounds of all things in the world, especially listening to people's hearts, can examine good and evil, and observe the wise and foolish."
"It's because the white dog has been with Jin Qiaojue all his life. Therefore, when Jin Qiaojue was offered to Jin Dizang, the white dog was also offered to him and was regarded as the incarnation of Diting."
Shi Liya looked around everyone and said slowly: "Now you all understand? Fan Zhengping met the old monk in the underworld, with a Buddha's light, tall and thin body, and riding a unicorn beast. The unicorn beast changed into a white dog, which means that the old monk in hell is Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva."
"He showed Fan Zhengping this unique image, which was to ask him to send a message to Li Bing so that Li Bing could realize that it was the image of Jindizang in Jiuhua Mountain, Anhui, and guide us to go to Jiuhua Mountain. Therefore, we should be able to understand the word "di" in the Sancai!"
Everyone exclaimed in unison, and Zhao Wan'er asked Li Bing in disbelief: "Li Bing, is it really as Sister Shi said, our next stop is Jiuhua Mountain in Anhui?"
Li Bing nodded with a smile, and then everyone felt doubts. Zhao Wan'er even urged everyone to eat quickly, get on the road immediately, and head straight for Jiuhua Mountain.
The spring was bright, and Li Bing and his party accompanied Zhao Wan'er, who was in high spirits to visit the major attractions in Jiuhua Mountain for a day. The next morning, we arrived at the Hall of True Body, which was offering the body of Jin Dizang.
Everyone knelt devoutly to worship Jin Dizang's body, and after sipping incense, they left the temple to visit the temple.
As a Buddhist layman, Li Bing asked for several dormitories for rest in the vassal of pilgrims and donated a thousand merit money in the name of five people.
In the dormitory, several people were drinking tea from the temple. Zhao Wan'er still asked Shi Liya curiously: "Sister Shi, who are Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, one left and one right? In the hall, I dare not offend the Bodhisattva and ask you quietly. Now tell me!"
Shi Liya told Zhao Wan'er affectionately: "Wan'er, the Buddha statues offered in Buddhism are mainly Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, one on the left and one on the right, and they are called Wei Shi, who practice with Bodhisattvas or Buddhas. Jin Dizang's left and right silences in Jiuhua Mountain were still father and son before his lifetime!"
Zhao Wan'er was even more curious and immediately pestered Shi Liya and continued to talk.
It turns out that there is also a fascinating folk legend about the left and right men of Jin Dizang.
It is said that Jin Qiaojue traveled across the ocean to China to shave his head and became a monk. When he entered Jiuhua Mountain to practice, he only practiced alone in a remote cave on Jiuhua Mountain.
When Jin Qiaojue was successful in his practice, he decided to establish a temple in Jiuhua Mountain to promote Buddhism. Because Jiuhua Mountain was owned by a Min surnamed Yuanwai, Jin Qiaojue begged for alms from Yuanwai. Min Wu asked Jin Qiaojue what he wanted to transform into. Jin Qiaojue said that he could only transform into a place with a large cassock.
Min Wu's financial resources were extraordinary. He was originally planning to provide Jin Qiaojue with a few acres of land to build a temple, but he didn't expect that Jin Qiaojue was just a mere cassock land. Min Wu was surprised and naturally had no time to think about it and agreed generously.
After Mr. Min agreed, he saw Jin Qiaojue's cassock shaking gently. The cassock floated in the air, and it grew when the wind grew. Finally, it covered nine peaks. This surprised Mr. Min and opened his eyes. He sighed that he had never had it, and was startled from quiet to surprise, and was delighted to be happy. He presented the entire mountain to the living Bodhisattva who begged for alms in front of him with conscience.
Min Yuanwai lost his family's resources and built a temple for this monk Jin Qiaojue who strictly followed the precepts and practiced hard. After the temple was completed, Jin Qiaojue finally had the conditions to practice the temple and accept disciples to spread the Dharma.
Jin Qiaojue became famous because of this, and many good men and women came to worship and offer sacrifices. Even after hearing the story of the monks in Silla, they also crossed the sea to China to serve. Min Yuanwai first asked his son to be a master of the monk, and then he also happily converted and practiced diligently. To this day, the attendants on the left and right Ksitigarbha statue in the temple of Jiuhua Mountain are the father and son of the Min family.
Everyone praised it and felt that this story was very familiar. It seemed that folk legend said that the monk Daoji from Lingyin Temple in West Lake in Hangzhou also beg for alms like this, but Jin Dizang was a figure in the Tang Dynasty, which was much more distant than the story of Daoji.
When everyone was incredibly fascinated, they could hear the sound of wooden fish coming from outside.
Li Bing's heart moved, as if there was an invisible force attracting him.
He quietly followed the sound of wooden fish and unknowingly came outside a secluded monk's room. Zhao Wan'er and four others also quietly followed Li Bing to outside the monk's room.
As the sound of the wooden fish, Li Bing could only hear the old monk chanting the "Sutra of the Original Vow of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva". Although the sound of chanting the Buddha's name was plain, it made the five people outside the door feel empty and clear.
I don’t know how long it took, but the sound of the wooden fish stopped. Only an old voice could be heard from the Zen room: “Master Li, please come in!”
Li Bing and others were shocked, but they did not dare to make any questions. With a pious and respectful heart, they gently pushed open the empty Zen room.
The decorations in the Zen room are very simple. They are surrounded by white walls, and a simple wooden bed is placed beside the wall. There is a shabby table beside the wooden bed, and an incense burner surrounded by cigarettes is placed. An old monk with a thin face is sitting cross-legged on a gate underground, with his eyes closed.
Li Bing respectfully knelt down to the old monk and asked softly: "Dare you ask the master's name? How do you know my surname is Li, and how do you know that I eavesdrop on the master's chanting outside the door of the Zen room?"
The old monk said lightly: "A monk has all four elements empty, and his Dharma name is also false. Why should Master Li know about it?"
Li Bing, who had already realized the Buddhist Zen theory with Zen Master Kongming, heard the old monk's words as if he had been enlightened, and he even worshiped the nameless old monk in his heart.
The old monk still said lightly: "Last night, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva asked me to dream of me. Today, there is a donor named Li who came to Jiuhua Mountain to observe the underworld to seek enlightenment. Just as the sutra was chanting, the wooden fish jumped, and someone would eavesdrop outside the door of the Zen room. If you can come to my Zen room, you are a person with a fate. The donor should be the surname Li that Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva referred to in his dream, so he knows it!"
Li Bing and the other five were surprised and silent. They suddenly saw the nameless old monk's eyes open and his brilliance suddenly appeared.
The old monk was no longer an old voice, but a loud sound, and shouted: "Li Bing, sit on the top of the **, your eyes are closed, and your mind is free of distractions. With the guidance of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, you will dream of going to the Ten Palaces of Yama and the Eighteen Hells, and then you will be enlightened!"
Li Bing asked in surprise: "Master, how can I enter the underworld as a mortal body? What's more, how can I travel through the Ten Palaces of Hell and the Eighteen Hells?"
The old monk smiled slightly and said, "Li Bing, of course, cannot enter hell. So you are sleepwalking in hell. Although you will experience many things and many times during your travels in hell, you only have a single incense in the sun."
