Chapter 39: The Strange Tramp

"Damn it! She messed up all my doubts." Mir said to himself.

Martin's eyes kept falling on Laura's dark eyes, and her eyes told him that everything she said and stated was almost true, and he could not see any flaws at all.

"Sir, what should we do?" Martin whispered close to Mir's ear.

"Wait for tomorrow."

Because there is another male cook in Laura's kitchen, Mir can only wait for the male cook to come to work in the hotel tomorrow and need to hear his story.

Mir asked Laura to continue making food, and then Mir and Martin left the kitchen and rushed to the second floor.

"How's it going? Sir." Ruili saw that Mir's face seemed a little uncomfortable, and she asked, "What did you ask?"

Mir looked around and whispered: "After listening to her statement, I found that everyone here has doubts."

"They all seem to be lying," Mir continued.

Ruili was very surprised. This was an extremely unexpected thing. She thought things were very simple. After listening to Mil's words, she felt that things were getting more and more complicated.

"Sir, are they all ghosts?" Ruili asked softly.

Mir shook his head and said: "I can be sure of this. They are not ghosts, but there are always secrets hidden in their hearts, or they are afraid of something."

Mir is going to take time to investigate the slave market tomorrow, where he believes he will find relevant clues.

"By the way, Miss Ruili, have you found anyone suspicious on the second floor?" Mir glanced at the drinking boss and said.

Ruili opened the brandy. She poured some wine into three wine glasses, took a sip and said, "It's the same as usual here. Those drunkards come here almost every day to get drunk."

Mir looked at the drunkards again and said, "How did you know? Miss Ruili."

"When I came down, one of the drunkards blocked my way. I helped him to that position." Ruili pointed at the drunkard and said, "He just started to drag me to drink together. I was pretending.

After taking a sip, he told me what happened here."

Mir cast his eyes on the drunkard. Under the dim oil lamp, the drunkard turned his back to Mir and the others. His hair had not been washed for a long time, and his dry brown hair was vaguely shiny.

His clothes were ill-fitting and tattered, as if he had picked them up randomly on the street, like a homeless man.

Mir watched his every move. He was drunk and singing obscene songs, making everyone at the wine table laugh.

The person next to the drunkard had a cigar in his mouth and took a puff of the cigar from time to time. After a while, thick smoke enveloped the wine table.

The hotel owner grinned and sang along cheerfully, and even occasionally cursed.

Mir planned to ask Vincent to keep an eye on the homeless man tomorrow, but he accidentally chatted with Ruili under the influence of alcohol. Mir felt that the homeless man must know something.

Mil and the others had almost finished their wine, and realized that the food that Laura had cooked in the kitchen had not been brought out yet. Martin was so hungry that his chest pressed against his back, and he shouted to Laura and ordered her to bring the food.

He shouted for a long time, but there was no movement downstairs, and no one answered. On the innermost wine table, their voices were extremely noisy, and their voices completely drowned out Martin's shouting.

Martin wanted to go to the kitchen to see why Laura was so lazy. When he and Mir were in the kitchen just now, Laura's movements were very skillful.

"I'll go, Martin." Ruili shook the empty wine bottle and said, "The wine has been drunk, and I'll just go get another bottle."

After Ruili finished speaking, she slowly walked down the stairs. She felt dizzy and her body was shaking slightly.

She immediately grabbed the armrest and shook her head hard. She needed to keep her head clear. If danger came, she would make sure to take out her flintlock gun as soon as possible.

Ruili stood on the last step of the stairs with her head lowered, and a tall and mighty man appeared beside her.

Ruili observed him carefully. Although the man in front of her was unkempt, his clothes were very decent, which was different from the two tramps upstairs.

The hair is messy and stylish, the eyebrows are thick, the eyes are big, the bridge of the nose is high, the fine beard completely pierces the skin, the man keeps his beard very long, and his muscles are strong and powerful.

Compared with the white men in France, the man's skin is slightly darker, but from Ruili's temperament, there is nothing decadent at all, and he is even more dignified than the French aristocrats.

Ruili looked at him for a long time. Despite this, the man's eyes showed no intention of evading him. At the same time, his eyes were also observing Ruili.

Ruili stepped down the last step and gave way to the man very politely, letting him go upstairs.

The man glanced away from Ruili and looked upstairs. He walked up to the second floor with vigorous steps.

Ruili turned around and opened the door, and saw that the woman in the kitchen had gone somewhere, and there was no food on the table.

Thinking that Martin and Mir were still hungry, she slipped into the kitchen and tried to find something to fill their bellies.

She walked around the kitchen and found almost nothing. However, there was another room next to the window in the kitchen.

Ruili tried to push the door, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't push it open. She thought the black woman was resting here.

She knocked hard, but no one answered in the room. Now she could only go to the counter and get two bottles of brandy to satisfy Martin and Mir's hunger.

She put the money on the counter and started to go upstairs. At this time, she met the man again at the same place.

Ruili didn't know what the man was doing here. She couldn't smell the alcohol on him, but could only smell the smell of cigars on him.

"Don't you like drinking?" Ruili asked.

The man smiled and shook his head.

"You can't speak?"

The man continued to smile and shook his head.

Ruili understood that the man was mute, and Ruili was a little surprised that such a handsome man could be reduced to such a state.

She once again bowed to the man, who bowed deeply to Ruili and hurried out of the hotel door.

Ruili looked at the man's back and said, "I seem to have seen him somewhere."

Ruili patted her head with her hands, unable to remember who this man was, let alone his name, so she sighed and chose to go upstairs.

"My Miss Ruili, where have you been?" Martin took Ruili's drink and said, "The commander and I are still worried that you will be in danger, so we will go downstairs to look for you immediately."

Ruili sat on the chair and said with a smile: "I'm very sorry to keep you waiting. I just saw a homeless man."

"What's so surprising about this?" Martin pointed to the front and said, "He just sat there for a while and then left."

"He is mute." Ruili said.
