Chapter Sixteen: Black Swordsman
William had met this man at the Dogtooth Tavern.
Previously, he was sitting alone in the corner of the tavern, drinking. He seemed to be the only person drinking in that place.
And this person has been staring at him since he entered the door.
Was he motivated by wealth? Because he acted like a rich man in the tavern, he was followed by greedy people.
But wouldn't it be too exaggerated to carry out a robbery with a giant sword the size of a door panel?
Moreover, the development of such a different world plot is too cliché.
"Any questions?"
Thoughts were flowing, William still looked relaxed and asked.
"The territory of the Miners' Brotherhood stopped here a long time ago. It is now just an abandoned mine."
The man replied.
William looked at the tall and thin man named Wilson next to him with some surprise. He was staring at the mysterious swordsman, trembling all over as if he was very frightened.
"What's in the mine?"
William asked Wilson.
"Nothing at all."
The one who answered his question was the swordsman holding the black iron giant sword.
He walked forward slowly, talking as he walked.
"The mine has been blocked, and the person next to you led two people into this empty mine today, and in the end he was the only one who came out."
"You're lucky."
He stopped about ten steps away and said to William.
"Not being the third one today."
After saying that, he lifted the cloak behind him that hindered his movement, bowed his waist, held the sword in both hands and rushed forward with one step.
The distance of ten steps was shortened in an instant, and the exaggeratedly large black iron giant sword in his hand was swung out the moment he rushed towards him, swinging it round and slashing towards Wilson's neck.
Logically speaking, Wilson's head should have flown more than ten meters like a ball under this heavy blow, but...
"clang!"
The sound of gold and iron clashing rang out, and Wilson was sent flying seven or eight meters away by the sword. After landing on the ground, he rolled several times before stopping his inertia, and a burst of slag dust rose up all around.
But his head still stayed on his neck.
He, or should I say it, twitched and got up from the ground.
Its eyes rolled white, saliva drooled from the corner of his mouth, and his whole body was shaking at an extremely exaggerated speed, as if there was something hidden under his skin.
The left hand that it used to block the blow just now was bent at a strange angle, with cracks like broken porcelain extending from it, and a thick dark green liquid slowly flowed out from it.
"who are you?"
The thing that should have been named Wilson asked in a horrified voice.
"The person who sends you on your way."
After the black swordsman finished speaking, he rushed forward and swung his sword again.
But this time, the monster's broken left arm could not stop the heavy sword. Its arm and its head were cut off by the black swordsman, and it flew far into the mineshaft nearby.
Two strikes solved the problem, but the Black Swordsman did not stop. He threw the sword on the ground, then pulled out a sharp dagger from his belt and thrust it towards the broken neck of the decapitated corpse.
A palm-sized spider with a twisted human face on its back was pinned to the ground as soon as it crawled out, and the human face let out a miserable scream.
"Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute, I can give you whatever you want. Do you want treasure, or do you want power? Or something else? As long as you let me go, I can satisfy you with anything..."
The human face on the spider's back actually spoke human words, and it kept pleading.
"I have heard your kind say the same thing to my companions."
The black swordsman sneered.
"Then my companion died because of a moment's hesitation. Of course, you don't need to be too nervous. There is something I really need to get from you."
The black swordsman pressed the dagger tightly and said coldly.
"Whatever you want, I promise to give it to you."
The human face on the spider said sincerely.
"revenge."
The black swordsman pulled the dagger directly, and the human-faced spider was cut in half.
William watched quietly from the beginning until the black swordsman wiped the dagger on his cloak and put it back into his belt. Then he walked over silently and squatted next to the corpse to observe.
The human-faced spider that was cut in half gradually turned into black salt crystals and dissipated, as did the remains of the headless corpse. But other parts of the corpse were still intact and showed no signs of dissipating.
"You see, it's this kind of thing hiding under the skin. God knows how many more there are in this city."
The man didn't look at William, he picked up the black giant sword and said.
"If you're scared, just wait here for the guards to come. If you don't want to cause trouble, just leave as if nothing happened. No one will track you down."
"Did all the twenty-seven people die like this before?"
William suddenly asked.
The black swordsman was stunned for a moment when he heard this, and then he pulled off his hood, revealing a weathered face.
As expected, this person is the wanted criminal Cass Durant who was seen on the reward notice earlier. He is the former chief of the Blackthorn Mercenary Group and a thug accused of killing twenty-seven innocent citizens.
Of course, after the guards discovered Wilson's body, this number would be changed to twenty-eight.
"No one will believe it unless they see it with their own eyes."
He said coldly as he watched the human-faced spider gradually turn into black salt crystals and dissipate into corpses.
"Unless a living spider is stuffed down their throats, they will never believe that there are threats beyond their knowledge that could appear in this world."
After making a complaint, Cass said to William who stood up.
"You can go. You are free to go to the guards to collect the bounty, but it is best to pretend that nothing happened."
After saying that, he fixed the sword on his back, put the cloak back on and turned to leave.
"By the way, I heard your conversation with the tavern owner before. A suggestion, don't get involved in business related to Origin Silver during this period, otherwise you may not be so lucky next time."
Before leaving, he turned back and said to William.
"Why?"
William asked.
"This kind of monster first came out of the Silverstream Mine. So far, the twenty-eight infected people I have killed are all related to that mine."
"Then do you know what this monster is?"
Cass shook his head.
"I only know that they first emerged from that mine. I have 'visited' several scholars before, and they couldn't find monsters with such characteristics in the latest imperial extraordinary creatures illustration."
William knows this monster.
The soul-eating spider demon is a descendant of the Void King Whispering Queen. It is a monster from the "Silk Nest" in the moon realm. It will parasitize in the throat of the host and slowly transform the host into a moon realm monster.
Although the soul-eating spider demon's combat power is weak, its penetration ability is extremely strong. It usually lurks in human society and develops into a worship organization of the Void King, spreading panic and unrest, and creating conditions for the subsequent large-scale invasion.
If the appearance of the Shambling Devil can be explained as an accidental situation due to the closeness of the summoning day of the Hungry Lady, then after seeing the Whispering Queen's scout vanguard appear here, William no longer dared to make such optimistic guesses.
At the same time, he couldn't imagine how tragic it would be if the entire Vic continent suffered another full-scale invasion from the Moon Realm at a time when being able to use master-level spells was considered a high-end combat capability.
"Then what are you going to do next?"
Thinking of this, William asked Cass's back.
"Investigate their origins, and then kill them all without leaving any one behind."
Cass said without looking back.
The tone of his voice reminded William of a former partner of his.
The fourth seat of the Thirteen Judgments, the Black Swordsman Black Saba.
He is also a tall and taciturn tough guy, he is also using a huge sword as exaggerated as a door panel, he is also fighting alone for revenge.
"Are you going to solve all the problems by yourself?"
William unconsciously said the line he used to recruit Blake Seba.
Cass didn't answer, just like that man back then.
William smiled and shook his head.
A sharp sound broke through the air, and when something was about to hit Cass's head, he caught it with his backhand.
He opened his palm, and it was a demon-sealing rune filled with lightning.
"Maybe you only believe in yourself, but if one day you feel you need help, just crush it."
