Chapter 8 Hard Seats

Susie looked out the window and asked, "What does your mother look like?"

Tian Xiaohui buried her head on her knees, "My mother - my mother is just a middle-aged woman without any characteristics."

Not far away, Susie saw a middle-aged woman with short hair craning her neck to look anxiously into the car. There was a faint shadow of Tian Xiaohui on her face, so she guessed it was her mother.

Seeing the middle-aged woman looking back and walking away, Su Qian was about to ask Tian Xiaohui to look up when she suddenly heard a heartbreaking cry: "Su Qian——"

Su Qian's pupils suddenly shrank, and she saw Lian Qing running and looking around in the distance, shouting at the same time.

Behind him was Su Haiqing!

Su Haiqing was running around like a headless fly.

When Su Haiqing looked over, Su Qian's heart almost stopped beating. She quickly threw herself on the small table and buried her head in her arms.

Tian Xiaohui, who had her head tied up next to her, also heard Lian Qing's call and chuckled, "Your family members are here too, hehehe, does it look like the two of us are eloping together?"

Susie lay on the table and couldn't help laughing.

This was the first smile she showed when she came into this world.

The boy opposite saw the girl's shiny black ponytail spread on the table, which seemed to exude a faint fragrance.

He turned to look out the window and saw a handsome young man running past anxiously shouting "Susie".

Tian Xiaohui was still scratching her head: "Why doesn't this car start?"

"Yuan Gang, please help me see if my mother is gone."

Yuan Gang scratched his head: "Here, I don't know your mother either."

Just when Su Qian and Tian Xiaohui were restless, the train made a long sound: "Woo--" Then the rails clanked and the train began to move forward slowly.

Susie took a deep breath and sat upright. She was no longer afraid when the train moved.

Tian Xiaohui quickly raised her head, leaned towards Su Qian and looked out the window.

She suddenly waved towards the window, "Mom, I'm here!"

Tian Xiaohui's mother followed the sound and looked over, finally meeting Tian Xiaohui's eyes. She sprinted over at a sprint speed of 100 meters, followed by the car window and scolded, "You damn child, you have the heart of a bear and the courage of a leopard.

You actually hid such a big thing from me and your dad, you, you have no conscience."

She cursed and cried, then took out a wad of money from her pocket and stretched it towards the car window.

The window was a bit high, so Tian Xiaohui leaned down, stretched out her arms, and took the stack of money.

The speed of the train was getting faster and faster. Tian Xiaohui's mother ran for a while and gradually couldn't keep up. She waved her hands vigorously and said, "Remember to write a letter home when you get there. Also, ask for leave early during the New Year to come back to visit relatives!"

"Hurry and shrink back, it's so dangerous!"

Tian Xiaohui promised loudly, "I can write letters. You and dad must be well at home." She sat back in her seat, pinched the stack of money, and suddenly cried.

No one paid attention to the crying in the noisy carriage. Only a few people nearby looked at Tian Xiaohui.

Su Qian took out a small handkerchief from her trouser pocket and handed it to Tian Xiaohui.

Tian Xiaohui turned around and lay in Su Qian's arms, "Oh, oh, oh, I can't let go of my mother, and I can't let go of my father."

Susie patted her back and said funnyly: "It's too late for you to regret it now."

Tian Xiaohui cried for a while, wiped her nose and tears, raised her head, folded the handkerchief and put it into her trouser pocket, saying in a muffled voice: "I'll wash the handkerchief and give it back to you."

Susie smiled and said, "No need to return it. It just happens to be a new handkerchief. You can keep it for use."

Yuan Gang, who was opposite, seemed to want to prevent Tian Xiaohui from being immersed in bad emotions, so he took the initiative to talk, "Do you know, we educated youths who go to the countryside are all paid resettlement allowances."

Tian Xiaohui was indeed attracted by this topic, "Really? How much is it?"

Yuan Gang shook his head, "That's hard to say. The state stipulates that it is more than one hundred, but many places can't afford the money, so they just give it casually."

"The Guizhou province we went to is one of the poorest provinces in the country, so we probably won't get much money."

Tian Xiaohui pouted, "How could this be possible?"

She counted her fingers and said, "I still have to buy a hot water bottle and a washbasin. I'm afraid my parents will find out that I don't even have a mosquito net, so I have to buy it too."

"Oh, I don't know if the resettlement fee is enough to buy things."

Su Qian listened for a while and asked Yuan Gang, "By the way, do you know when we will arrive in Guangxi Province?" She just checked and found that apart from the train number and seats, there was no time information on the ticket, not even the departure time.

Not to mention the time of arrival.

Yuan Gang scratched his head, "I can't figure this out either. Let's wait until the conductor comes to check the tickets later and we'll ask again."

The boy next to Yuan Gang spoke slowly at this time, "If it's not late, the arrival time should be almost ten o'clock."

Susie thought for a while, "Ten o'clock tomorrow morning?"

The young man sneered, "It's ten o'clock in the morning the day after tomorrow, and it takes seventy-two hours from Beijing to Guangxi Province."

Susie was stunned for a moment. She was used to modern and convenient transportation. She said that at ten o'clock tomorrow morning, she had already considered the backwardness of this era.

She didn't know that the trains of this era were much slower than the green trains of later generations. The speed of the green trains of later generations was already the result of several speed increases on the railway.

Susie then nodded to the boy, "Thank you."

The young man folded his arms, leaned against the window, and closed his eyes, obviously not caring about this thank you.

Tian Xiaohui was shocked. This was her first time taking a train, and she was a girl and had no idea about distance.

"It takes so long? Three days!"

"Are you just going to sit all the way to Guangxi Province?"

Yuan Gang on the opposite side smiled, "No, we have hard-seat tickets, so we can't force ourselves to sit together."

Tian Xiaohui frowned, "It's so painful to sit here for three days."

Susie stood up at this time and said, "I'm going to the bathroom."

Tian Xiaohui said "uh" and blinked twice, "You mean to go to the toilet, right?" She turned sideways and asked Su Qian.

Susie then thought that the word bathroom was not spoken in this era. It was probably introduced from Hong Kong and Taiwan after the reform and opening up.

She secretly reminded herself to pay attention to details in the future, so as not to be caught by someone's pigtails and reported, while walking towards the end of the carriage.

The train had just started and the toilet was not so busy. Susie only waited for a while before a girl came out.

She went in and solved her physical problems first, then took out the wad of money that Xu Min had stuffed into her trouser pocket and counted it.
