Telephone

She was watching TV absentmindedly and fiddling with the remote control in her hand aimlessly. The night was too difficult.

When the phone rang, she was full of doubts: Who, it’s so late?

Her father-in-law's voice was on the other end of the phone, and she felt a heavy feeling of discomfort in her heart: "Dad, it's so late, are you still awake?"

"No, it didn't affect your rest? I want to talk to Daniel about something."

"Oh, he, he, he went on a business trip this week. If you have anything to tell me, I will tell him tomorrow." Her tone was a little flustered.

Something big happened at home. Her husband was in a car accident the day before yesterday and died on the spot. Her father-in-law had high blood pressure and heart disease. She didn't dare to inform him, so she kept it secret. It took as long as one day to delay. Now she herself is very confused. She doesn't know what will happen tomorrow.

How about it, I’m too lazy to think about it

Her father-in-law explained something over there, but she didn't listen to a word. Nothing was important anymore. She dealt with it casually in a daze, feeling that the microphone in her hand was as heavy as iron.

"Isn't Xiaobao still asleep? It's already half past ten, and you're still having so much fun." After the father-in-law finished talking about the business, the topic changed: "I heard him calling grandpa next to him, with such a loud voice, this kid!"

"Oh, it's time to sleep, I'll go to bed right away" she agreed vaguely

"Hey, you're so good. Do you miss grandpa?" My father-in-law teased the child over the phone and urged him to go to bed quickly.

After hanging up the phone, she let out a sigh of relief and sat on the sofa blankly.

Suddenly, she remembered: the child was gone. There was a car accident that day. The child was with her husband, and neither of them could be saved.
