16. Qian Xuesen from his student days

Qian Xuesen, when he was a student, considered himself a good student, but did not hide his true grades. When he was studying at the Affiliated High School of Beijing Normal University, he scored more than 80 points each time. When he was admitted to Shanghai Jiaotong University, he did not rank first, but ranked third.

In the American PhD exam, the score was not the first grade, but ranked second grade. According to common sense, Qian Xuesen,

If you should win the first place in every school, you deserve the title of a scientist. Just like if you have parents treat your children, you won’t win the first place. Only the first place can you have a future. The facts prove to be a pure fallacy.

Good or bad grades are just references, and whether you succeed or not depends on your behavior. Being down-to-earth and meticulous is a major advantage worth promoting.

Organized and orderly, just like a general leading a army to fight. It is absolutely not possible to be in chaos, and good habits must be developed from an early age.

In 1955, Qian Xuesen was on his way back to China. A reporter asked a question in English in the waiting room of Kowloon Railway Station in Hong Kong. He replied: "I'm sorry, now I'm going to speak Chinese!"
