In 1841, when the ice and snow were not melting, General William Henry Harrison, a soldier, became the tenth president of the United States. On March 4, the 68-year-old general Harrison stood on the platform in the cold wind and read for two hours, a ten thousand-tongued inauguration speech.

A month later, President Harrison suffered from a cold and quickly turned to pneumonia. On April 4, Harrison, who served as president for only one month, passed away in disgrace.
