Chapter 47: The Confident Levante Coach

Ignacio Martinez, Levante coach, is an old coach from 1954. His coaching career started with youth training and took over regional league teams, and was promoted to the Spanish C, Spanish Second Division, and La Liga with rich coaching experience.

Last season, he coached the Spanish Second Division team Cartagena and led Cartagena to the 13th place in the Spanish Second Division. After the season ended, he became Levante's coach.

After coming to Levante, he made the team look brand new, with a positive playing style and a remarkable record. He once occupied the top spot in La Liga, making Levante the biggest dark horse in La Liga this season.

In the Copa del Rey, they defeated the former La Liga powerhouse La Coruna and advanced to the fifth round.

The team is now in a stage of rapid improvement and is full of morale.

Undoubtedly, the draw of San Malaga, a Class D team in the fifth round, was a top draw for him and his team.

After the lottery results came out, he immediately said in an interview with the media: "For us, this is a good lottery, so there is no reason why we don't go to the next round.

It is indeed surprising that San Malaga can eliminate Zaragoza, which shows that they have certain strength.

When I coached regional league teams, I often played against Class D teams and knew that some of them were good at strength.

There are also many players in the D-level teams who have received professional training from professional clubs and have a certain level.

San Malaga is a strong team among the D-level teams, otherwise they would not have been able to reach the present.

To be honest, a Class D team can only be considered an amateur team.

Professionalism and amateurism are completely different concepts. Although San Malaga is a strong team among amateur teams, there is still a clear gap with professional teams.

I have studied the video of their game against Zaragoza in the last game. There are indeed several players in their team who are good at strength and have almost reached the level of professional players.

This is also the main reason why they can enter the fifth round.

However, from the perspective of overall strength, there is still a clear gap between them and professional teams.

Of course, we will not underestimate any opponents, nor will we repeat the mistakes like Zaragoza, so we will take this good-level Tier D team seriously.

I don't think it's a big problem for us to advance to the next round.

My main job is to compete in La Liga, and this is the focus of my work. At least I don’t need to worry about anything in this round of the Copa del Rey, nor do I pay too much attention.”

Levante head coach Ignacio Martinez was very confident in an interview. Although he said he would value San Malaga, his words were filled with disdain for San Malaga.

Call San Malaga an amateur team directly.

As a coach who ranked fourth in La Liga and once defeated Real Madrid, he could of course do so, and no one thinks there is anything wrong with him saying these words.

The first round of the fifth round of the Cup of Rey is scheduled on January 4.

At noon on January 3, Levante, who ended the winter break, flew to Malaga.

In an interview at the airport, Levante head coach Ignacio Martinez said: "Malaga is a very beautiful city, and the air and sunshine are fascinating."

Speaking about tomorrow's game, he said: "We have never played against San Malaga and are not familiar with them.

But I heard that many of the players in this team have been trained at the Malaga Youth Training Camp, so from this point of view, I am still familiar with them.”

The local reporter looked ugly. In the eighth round of La Liga this season, Malaga challenged Levante away, but ended up losing 0-3 at the Valencia City Stadium.

Ignacio Martinez deliberately mentioned Malaga, which is to map this game.

His meaning is very obvious. Your regular army, Malaga, was completely defeated by zero to three. Now this "miscellaneous army" wants to kill us?

What a joke!

We are here for vacation, haven't you heard that the first thing I said was "The air and sunshine here are fascinating"?

A reporter from Valencia thought there was nothing to talk about in this game, so he might as well take this opportunity to talk about La Liga, so he asked: "How is the situation of the team during the winter break? What do you think about the first opponent after the winter break?"

Ignacio Martinez looked at the reporter who asked the question with admiration and said with a smile: "We took advantage of the opportunity of the winter break to summarize the gains and losses since the start of the game and conducted targeted training. The whole team is in a very good condition now, and we are full of confidence in the second half of the season.

Our first opponent is Mallorca.

Their form is recovering recently, but their away results this season are average, and we are confident that we will win them at home!”

Another reporter asked: "The achievements Levante made before the winter break are shocking. Where do you think you are successful?"

Ignacio Martinez was very satisfied with the reporter's question and said with a smile: "The thing we succeeded is that we made sufficient preparations before the season.

In addition, in terms of employment, I have made some changes, no longer fixed who is the main force and who is the substitute.

If you are in good condition, you are the main force. If you are in bad condition, you can only sit on the bench.

This enhances competition within the team and allows players to adjust their form to the best, so we have achieved some results.

Now we are ranked fourth, and I think we can still rank higher!

Some people may think I'm joking, but I'm not joking. We once took the top spot!"

This was obviously the most glorious moment in Ignacio Martinez's coaching career, so he didn't want to be low-key.

Now he is full of confidence. In his opinion, as long as Levante brings a higher ranking this season, he may qualify for the Champions League next season.

If he performs well in the Champions League next season, he can use Levante as a springboard to coach a more powerful team.

Today I came to Malaga to prepare for the Copa del Rey. The opponent is a Class D team, which must be a pleasant journey.

So he was in a good mood, so he naturally had to be more high-profile in front of these reporters.

The coach of a strong team should be high-profile.

My strength doesn't allow me to be low-key.

Next, Ignacio Martinez happily answered the questions of those "sensible" reporters, and then left the airport and rushed to the hotel.

After a short rest in the hotel, Ignacio Martinez led the team to the Rose Garden for training to adapt to the venue.

Why so active?

After training, he said in an interview with reporters: "We came to adapt to the venue so quickly, on the one hand, because we value this game, and on the other hand, because it is our style, we will actively adapt to the venue before the game.

The point mentioned later is the fundamental reason!”
