Chapter 1 Lanruo Temple

The vast mountains stretch for hundreds of miles, a peak is steep, like a sword soaring into the sky. There are many temples, houses, and Buddhist temples on the hillside, but most of them are abandoned and dilapidated.

In the courtyard in the temple, two monks, one fat and one thin, sat on the stone steps, chatting about heart-to-heart talk and discussing Buddha.

The fat monk is in his thirties, with a fat head and big ears, a greasy face, and a rich face. The thin monk is about seventeen or eighteen years old, with beautiful eyes.

"Tell me, why do you have to be vulgar?" said the fat monk.

"I want to get married."

"Who do you like? Master is going to propose marriage to you."

"The little red who came to burn incense recently." said the young monk.

"Well, she looks handsome, but she is already betrothed by others, it's too late." said the fat monk.

"I want to eat meat." The young monk hugged his knees with one hand, and drew circles on the ground with the other hand.

"What meat? Chicken, duck, fish, pig, beef, sheep, fry, stir-fry, steam or braised? I'll get it for you in the afternoon." said the fat monk.

"I want to eat dog meat, hot pot."

"Yes, yellow dog, black dog or spot?"

"I want to eat in the hall in front of the Buddha." said the young monk.

"No problem, I call the abbot and your senior brother together. Some days I haven't eaten meat. Everyone talks about life while eating." said the fat monk.

"Enough!" The young monk suddenly stood up and threw the branches in his hand. "I don't want to be a monk, I don't want to, I don't want to!"

He roared loudly, and his saliva splashed, falling on the fat monk's face.

"There must be a reason for everything!" The fat monk was not anxious or impatient, and wiped his face.

"Reason, reason? The reason is that this broken temple is called something bad, it is not called Lanruo Temple!" The young monk pointed to the temple behind him, looking excited.

"Lan Ruo means a quiet place and a pure place. Buddhism originally seeks purity, so what's wrong?" said the fat monk calmly.

"There is a big locust tree behind the mountain, it must be a thousand years?" the young monk pointed behind.

"It's at least 1,500 years old, hundreds of years earlier than Lanruo Temple." said the fat monk.

"One thousand five hundred years, look at the appearance of the fangs and claws. The waist of the tree is thicker than a house." The young monk said excitedly. "There is also that mountain called Heishan. Where is it black? Who made it a name for it?"

"The locust trees have been around for more than a thousand years, and naturally they have lush branches and leaves. The mountain is called Heishan because there are strange stones in the mountains that turn black into black, and the harder they become more iron."

"A thousand-year-old tree demon, a black mountain old demon." said the young monk.

"Amitabha, where have you heard these strange rumors? Don't worry, with Lanruo Temple here, there will be no monsters in the mountains." said the fat monk.

"Lanruo Temple? This name is unlucky and attracts ghosts. Let's talk about the name you gave me this name of "Breaking the Dharma" and "Why is it not called "Looking for Death"? What brain can come up with such a name of "Breaking the Dharma"?" The young man became more and more excited as he spoke.

"The Dharma name is just a title." The fat monk said earnestly.

"The title should be at least a little more decent. My name is Wusheng. There is also a monk in the temple called Wudou. One is not long and the other is brainless. What is this a magical name! And you, Huxu, hahaha." The young man couldn't help laughing.

"I'm sorry, I can't help it." As soon as he mentioned this Dharma name, he wanted to laugh.

Many brainless people come up with such a magic number.

"Just be happy." The fat monk said with a happy smile.

"Anyway, I don't want to be a monk here, I'm going down the mountain." The young monk turned around and left.

"Wait." The fat monk suddenly stood up and took out a piece of paper from his pocket, with words and a handprint. "Look at what this is?"

"What?"

"The body sale contract and your handprints, you can go down the mountain and get rid of your body for 100 taels of silver."

"Where is blackmail, when did I get a hundred taels of silver from you?" The young monk was stunned and then furious.

"It's not you, it's the donor you sent you when you were unconscious." Monk Kongxu said.

"Don't lie to me. You are a dilapidated temple, you don't have a village or a shop behind you. Who would send me here? And even if all the dilapidated temples are sold, it's worth less than 100 taels of silver. You must be fooling me!" Wusheng said.

"If you don't believe it, we can go to the yamen at the foot of the mountain to see if this deed is true." The fat monk smiled, "Besides, you agreed at the beginning."

"Bad, when did I agree? You shave mine when I was still in a coma. Who else shaved my head? Cut a big hole in my forehead!" Wusheng pointed at his forehead angrily, with a scabbed scar in it, how long is the length of a finger.

"It's already good. After all, it's the first time, I'm using a kitchen knife again." The fat monk said with a smile.

"Ah?!" Wusheng was stunned, "Did you use a kitchen knife to ordain me?"

"It's not me, it's the abbot. Besides, I asked you at that time, and you nodded, and you nodded in a coma. It can be seen that you dreamed of entering my Buddhism."

"Get out of here." The young monk waved his sleeves.

"Then pay back the money." The fat monk was not anxious or angry.

“No money.”

"Then be a monk here."

"I don't do it!"

"Then let me go down the mountain and make a statement to the county yamen." said the fat monk.

"Go and go, who is afraid of whom!" said the young monk with a stuttering neck.

Anyway, he won't be a monk here.

"Okay, I'll go clean up, and we'll go down the mountain after noon."

Just as he was saying this, a figure rushed in from outside, walked around the hall in the middle, and went to the back, as fast as a rabbit.

"That's the abbot, right?" said the young monk.

Since he came to this temple, he has seen the old monk. He is in his sixties or seventies, thin, three long beards, and a pair of bright eyes. He is elusive all day long. God knows what he is doing.

"Yes." Monk Kongxu said.

"I'm old and running so fast, be careful to fall." Wusheng said.

"The abbot is in great health. He just came back from going down the mountain to beg for alms."

"Go down the mountain and beg for alms?" Wusheng's brows jumped, feeling a bad feeling.

After a little cleanup, they left the temple after noon.

After coming out of Lanruo Temple, a stone steps lead directly to the mountains. There are wild grass on both sides of the road, more than one person is tall, the forest is dense, and the sun cannot fall through the gaps of the leaves, and the stone path is covered with moss. Wild flowers blooming beside the road, butterflies are flying in the air, and birds are singing in the forest, which is a lively scene.

Oh, suddenly a strange roar came from the deep mountains in the distance.

After hearing this, Wusheng stopped suddenly and his face became ugly.

"What's wrong, Wusheng?" The fat monk walking in front stopped and turned around and asked.

"That was the wolf shouting just now, right?"

"It should be that the mountains and forests are dense, and it is normal to have wolves, but it is still far from us when we hear the sound." said the fat monk.

"We'd better go faster, right?" Wusheng said.

"good."

The two monks speeded up.

The roads in the mountains were troughed and uneven. After crossing a ridge, I saw another peak. The slender road seemed to have no end. When they left the temple, the sun was shining in the sky. When they saw the smoke from cooking, the sun was already hanging on the mountainside and could set at any time.

Standing in the mountains and looking into the distance, there is a village at the foot of the mountain, with houses arranged in an orderly manner, a river flows through the village, and the smoke from the cooking stove is full of vitality, quiet and peaceful.

"We will spend the night in Ningjia Village tonight and go to the county tomorrow."

"Ningjia Village?" Wusheng was stunned.

"Ning Caichen?"

"What Ning Caichen?" The fat monk was stunned.

"Is there a scholar named Ning Caichen in the village?"
