Chapter 178 Celebration and New Projects

The domestic speculation is extremely hot, but Duke is in the center of the vortex, but it is very calm. The American media seems to have lost their voices collectively. Most technology media have only published a short message in inconspicuous places. This is an extremely obvious attitude towards the American media, which has always liked to hype, and a kind of helplessness and protest against the fall of the pearl.

"Duke, congratulations on winning the Turing Award, which is one of the few technology awards that Chinese people have truly had world-class influence! As a compatriot, I am very proud. Look at the collective reaction of Americans. This time I took the Turing Award, it really hit their hearts." Qin Tairan said to Duke very excitedly. This time he made a special trip to Boston on behalf of the official to congratulate Duke on his achievements.

"Americans have always claimed to be free and open, but that's the case. When they can take the lead and talk about it, they will show it out. It really involves their own interests and is more indifferent than anyone else." Qin Tairan, who has always paid attention to the trends of the American media, said to Duke with several reports on the technology version of mainstream American newspapers and magazines.

"What if he doesn't matter, I don't need this for advertising anyway." Duke smiled and expressed his gratitude for Qin Tairan's congratulations.

The two have always had a good relationship, and Qin Tairan happened to take care of both public and private this time.

Speaking of this, the relevant departments still considered the value and influence of this award. Qin Tairan sent out was a deputy department-level counselor, and was at the same level as District Mayor Zhang in China, and the specifications were no longer low.

"How about it, should I hold a press conference? This is a good thing. I think some domestic media and Chinese media will still be interested." Qin Tairan said to Duke with a smile. If Duke is in New York, the Consulate General would hold a press conference for this.

However, this is in Boston, Qin Tairan still pays more attention to Duke's opinions. Although holding a press conference, it is a big achievement for him. After all, this work of uniting overseas Chinese elites is good, which will increase political achievements.

But Duke really doesn't care much about this now, "Forget it, I'm too busy with a lot of things now. If you can, you can avoid it. Tonight, we'll gather together as a celebration. You, the guest of honor, can't run away." Duke refused the suggestion of holding a press conference for Chinese people in Boston and invited him warmly.

In this way, Duke invited three teachers, Professor Boer, Professor Schwab and Professor Andrew, Susanna, Selena and Clement, and then Qin Tairan and dozens of experts from Duke's American Laboratory to hold a small-scale cocktail party to celebrate in a five-star hotel. The matter came to an end.

Just be excited about this matter, there is no need to take it too seriously. Compared to the results to be launched in the future, this is just a drizzle, an appetizer.

Looking at the current school work, Duke, a cooperation project with Nasa, has been completed, and the results delivered are impeccable. Nasa is very satisfied with this cooperation.

In view of the excellent cooperation effect, Nasa has offered generous conditions and hopes to continue to cooperate with Duke, and has put forward tens of millions of dollars in a year of projects. Of course, these subsequent work is getting closer and closer to some of the core contents of Nasa, and the level of confidentiality is quite high.

Duke firmly rejected Nasa's invitation to cooperate, and the matter at the American school has come to an end, but now there are enough things that he is under pressure in domestic universities, not to mention that Duke is still a project that contains sensitive information.

However, Duke still couldn't escape some projects. For example, Duke agreed to Professor Boer's invitation to the artificial intelligence image recognition project. This is a cooperative project between Boer and the US Department of Homeland Security. The Department of Security hopes that Professor Boer can eventually develop an intelligent recognition system based on this artificial intelligence image recognition technology to conduct preliminary computer identification of people entering and leaving the US Customs.

The computer automatically collects images of each person who customs clearance is available, and the background automatically compares the characteristic database of high-risk suspects. When abnormalities are found, the US Customs Department can issue warning information based on these warning information, and conducts in-depth investigations on the suspects who trigger the alarm in order to detect dangerous suspects as soon as possible.

In this project, the US security department considers that international exchanges are frequent and the number of customs clearance personnel is too large, and the customs cannot conduct a thorough inspection of every customs clearance person. Through the screening of this technical means, the general population can be greatly eliminated and the scope of inspection can be narrowed, so as to better prevent high-risk groups from entering the United States.

Of course, this system is completely operated behind the scenes, and the people who pass the level cannot feel its existence at all. Therefore, there will be no rebound in execution.

Even the suspect who triggers the alarm and is deeply investigated does not know why he is treated more solemnly by others. The reason given by the customs office is always random sampling.

Of course, Duke doesn't know the inside story of these later applications yet, but he just knows that this project is based on instantly collected personal images and compared with image data in the database. Those with high similarity can be identified, just like people identifying people similar to the picture based on the picture.

To be honest, this is a very technically difficult project. Because we know that even if the relevant departments in the United States are very strong, most of the information is not very sufficient for high-risk groups that can endanger the safety of the United States. Many of them can only obtain some simple small documents and pictures of the suspects.

It is not easy to identify a real suspect with such simple and even outdated information. Just look at your ID card photos and you will know how different the image of most people is from the real person. If you use general image recognition software to identify it, the recognition accuracy is so low that it can be simply devastating.

With current image recognition technology, it’s okay to identify business cards or car license plates. Portrait recognition can only be perfect unless the built-in image data is very similar to the real person.

What’s strange is that if people are used to identify, even if the photos are very different from real people, they can still be identified most of the time. In other words, people’s recognition is more achieved through a sense of similarity, and they can identify and judge vague things.

For Duke, this is also a new research field. It is basically considered a category of fuzzy recognition technology in terms of classification. It is to introduce fuzzy mathematical methods into pattern recognition, use fuzzy technology to design machine recognition systems, simulate the recognition process of the human brain, and thus improve the computer's ability in image recognition.

But Professor Boer has helped Duke too much. At this moment, Duke cannot be too heartless. Fortunately, Professor Boer has achieved a lot of achievements in this area, so Duke doesn't have to start from scratch.
