Chapter 887 Dialogue

"Green Book" premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September this year and won first place at the People's Choice Award.

The film became famous in Toronto and was enthusiastically received by film critics.

After Toronto, "Green Book" officially joins the awards season.

It's not the hottest time of the awards season yet, but Cheng Yu'an still wants to stand up for the movie.

He is going to record a dialogue program today.

Cheng Yuan in conversation with Alfonso Cuaron.

"Roma" directed by the latter is also a big hit during this year's awards season.

This conversation was organized by Netflix and will be included in Netflix’s Oscars season special report and broadcast around the world.

Cheng Yu'an arrived at the studio early to put on makeup, and within a few minutes Alfonso Cuaron took the initiative to knock on the door of Cheng Yu'an's dressing room and come in.

"G, long time no see." Alfonso Cuarón greeted Cheng Yu'an warmly, and Cheng Yu'an could still understand his Mexican-accented English.

How could they not know each other?

"Casuo." Cheng Yu'an stood up and hugged the other person, "How are you doing lately?"

"To use your Chinese language," this half sentence is in English, followed by broken Chinese, "let's get along."

"Hahaha." Cheng Yu'an laughed, and then used the few Spanish words he knew (the official language of Mexico) to tease Alfonso Cuaron and said that he would teach him how to say it.

This scene was captured by cameras throughout the city and will be released as a trailer.

The two exchanged pleasantries for a few words, and Alfonso Cuaron said, "I'm going to get ready. We'll talk later."

"ok."

Cheng Yu'an sat down again and let the makeup artist do his makeup while looking down at the script given by the program team.

Both of them are world-renowned directors. The program team did not put too many restrictions on the topics they discussed, but deliberately created explosive points in the script.

Everyone, please go and try it soon.】

I hope the two can talk more about the issues of ethnic minorities in the United States during the 2 hours of recording time.

For a Chinese and a Mexican to talk about this topic, it will definitely be explosive.

After putting on makeup, Cheng Yuan walked out and came to the recording site.

The setting was very simple, just like an empty room, with two chairs, a round table, and two glasses of water facing each other.

Alfonso Cuarón also came out not long after, and the two of them fastened their microphones and sat down, waiting for the on-site director's start-up instructions.

The on-site director announced the start of filming.

Both of them skipped the opening remarks of greeting and started talking directly. Cheng Yuan asked:

"When was the last time we met?"

Alfonso Cuaron recalled: "It must have been last year in Cannes. You attended the Chinese Movie Night, and I also went to watch it."

Cheng Yu'an laughed and said: "I watched your movies very late, probably starting from "Your Mother Is the Same". I thought at the time, shit, this story is really good."

Alfonso Cuaron was also very proud of his movie, which opened up the international market for him. Five years after this movie, he made "Children of Men".

But Alfonso Cuaronque said: "Do you know my first impression of you?"

"Um?"

"The first time I met you, I felt that this guy is not a movie maker."

Cheng Yu'an burst out laughing. This was not the first time he was told that he didn't look like a director: "Many people said that I don't look like a director."

The two started chatting about each other's movies, and Cheng Yu'an said that he liked Alfonso Cuarón's long shots very much: "Hide the subtitles, and you will know it was you who shot it when you look at the long shots."

The two started chatting about long shots and talked about the use of camera language. Cheng Yu'an admitted that he "is not good at camera language."

"But Bergman and Akira Kurosawa are my eternal idols, and I am still fascinated by their shots."

Alfonso Cuaron smiled: "No one will dislike these two masters."

The two chatted for half an hour, talking about very professional issues, crew management, development and innovation of lens language, script creation, etc.

Then they were interrupted by the on-site director, who asked the two of them to talk about several topics given in the script.

The two had no choice but to clean up and continue the conversation.

Cheng Yuan started with the three Mexican heroes, praised their achievements, and then said that Chinese directors are not doing well in Hollywood.

This is what you want.

At the beginning, the two chatted about the development of foreign filmmakers in Hollywood.

"Hollywood appears to be open and inclusive, but in fact it is very narrow-minded." Cheng Yu'an was the first to throw out the bad news, "I made a small-budget science fiction movie called "Time Planning Bureau" about ten years ago."

"I've seen that movie," Alfonso Cuaron said. "It has a great theme, but it's a pity that it wasn't made well." As soon as Alfonso Cuaron heard Cheng Yu'an talk about this movie, he knew what he wanted to express, and he used it.

The word "pity".

Cheng Yu'an continued: "The ending in the first draft of the script we made was not like this, but we were dissuaded by the association during the filming and asked us to modify the ending."

"Time Planning Bureau" is a typical anticlimax. The hero and heroine have already mobilized the masses. According to normal logic, the hero and heroine should lead the masses to revolt - no matter whether it succeeds or not, they should give it a try.

But in the end, the two protagonists turned into male and female thieves, trying to "save the world" with a weak logic.

Cheng Yu'an pointed out: "In Hollywood, you can oppose the United States and criticize capitalism, but you cannot overthrow capitalism."

Filmmakers are more or less rebellious. Alfonso Cuarón is not shy about talking about this. They also like to talk about politics through movies, but if we talk about this topic, it will be discussed in the New Wave category, and then it will become academic.

Forum.

Therefore, Alfonso Cuaron did not go into details, but only brought two New Wave sentences to express his views on the social system: "Of course problems exist, but the progress of the social system is slow and requires criticism and resistance."

Then the two really started discussing the issues between movies and social systems, criticizing the systems of various countries, especially the United States, as nonsense.

The on-site director was grinning from ear to ear as he watched from the outside. This was the effect he wanted.

Just curse a few words, it's a lot of meat.

Alfonso Cuarón volunteered: "But you were named by the president."

This chapter is not finished yet, please click on the next page to continue reading the exciting content! "He doesn't understand movies," Cheng Yu'an said bluntly, "Anyone who has been to a movie theater knows how ridiculous his accusations against me are.

"That's why I say it's narrow-minded. Since he was elected by voters as president, to a certain extent, his remarks represent the views of the vast majority of Americans. So you see, after he came to power, various political circles in the United States

All policies have begun to tighten.

“So I say that he is short-sighted, does not consider long-term interests and the pattern, and only wants to make achievements during his term to please voters.

"There is a saying that describes his behavior: After I die, I will take care of the floods."

After the two talked about policy, they returned to the movie.

Both of them have very similar views on the current film market - it seems colorful, but in fact it is boring.

"After "Avengers 4" is completed next year, the era of superhero movies will temporarily come to an end."

“You’re not optimistic about Marvel’s next decade?”

Cheng Yu'an shook his head: "He has been famous for ten years and it's time to retire. It will be difficult for Marvel to start in the next stage.

"The audience has been fed light and pyrotechnics special effects for ten years and is a little tired of it. They will expect a wonderful story next."

Cheng Yu'an's statement was recognized by Alfonso Cuaron. He also felt that both Marvel and DC paid too little attention to the story.

But Alfonso Cuaron also put forward his own opinion: "If special effects movies like superhero movies will come to an end, what will happen to the sequel to "Avatar" that Cameron is currently working on?"

Cheng Yu'an said nothing surprising: "I am not optimistic about the performance of the sequel of "Avatar". I don't think Cameron will create a box office miracle again."
