28 - Dropped Pie
Twentieth Century Fox Films, arguably one of the most important film, television program distribution and production companies in the United States, is headquartered in Century City on the west side of Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA.
This company, founded in May 1935, is still one of Hollywood movie giants. Since it was acquired by Murdoch's News Corporation, its complete upstream and downstream channels include all media-related industries.
The F150 pickup truck was driving to Century City, and Wayne was thinking about all the information about the giant film company. When he was a projectionist across the Pacific, the Hollywood giant released a lot of movies passed by his hands and showed them.
Later, I was bedridden due to heart problems. Even if I didn't deliberately learn about the outside world, I heard the big news that this giant was acquired by Disney.
On December 14, 2017, Disney announced the acquisition of some assets of 21st Century Fox for $52.4 billion in stock.
Unexpectedly, Comcast, the largest cable TV operator in the United States, proposed a plan to acquire Fox assets in $65 billion in cash on June 13 of the following year, competing with Disney.
Note that Comcast proposed a cash transaction. Not long after, Disney raised its offer to $71.3 billion, and Comcast withdrew from the competition on July 19.
Fox executives expressed satisfaction with the offer. 71.3 billion was indeed a bid they could not refuse, and the acquisition officially entered the procedural stage.
In fact, the opposite is true. Fox has an irresistible attraction to Disney, and this deal is a win-win situation. This has also made Di Baby, the world's number one media group, and Fox is too important to Di Baby's supplement.
There are those that Disney does not have, and Fox has them. All kinds of copyrights that cannot be calculated in the subsequent income are something that Di Baby cannot refuse.
Among the six major Hollywood stars, Fox's release flavors may be the most complicated, including science fiction "Avatar", love "Titanic", horror "Alien", comedy "Home Imperial", and animation "Ice Age" with almost no genre shortcomings.
Fox even has the world's largest movie IP, the copyright and subsequent distribution rights for the first part of "Star Wars", while Disney has acquired Lucasfilm at this time. After "Star Wars" restarted, each movie was released almost like robbing money from the pockets of movie fans.
The car parked in the parking lot below the building, Wayne looked up at the building, and had a premonition that his Hollywood road might start here.
Jimmy was walking around anxiously in the lounge area at the entrance of the building. When he saw Wayne arrive, he breathed a sigh of relief. Jimmy didn't know how he took the Fox route, but this was definitely a turning point.
"Hi, Ms. Watts." Jimmy greeted Naomi first before continuing, "Wayne, who is Fox contacting you? Is it trustworthy? It's not a prank, right?"
Not to mention Jimmy's doubts, he himself wondered.
"I got a call at home and just check it out when I go in. To be honest, I don't know how they know mine."
As soon as the three of them walked to the front desk of the building, a white man in his early thirties stood up on the sofa in the lounge area next to him. He looked at the three people carefully and walked directly to Wayne.
"Director Greenberg? Hello, I'm Terry who I contacted you."
Seeing Terry stretching out his hand, he quickly reached out and held it together. "Hello, I'm Wayne Greenberg, you can call me Wayne."
"Oh, OK, Wayne, let's go up and chat." After saying that, he turned around and walked into the elevator with the three of them.
Jimmy, who was following behind, looked at his director clients with a weird look, and could let Fox distribution department employees go downstairs to pick them up. What's wrong with this world? Did he mistakenly blame these giant companies that could be called rogues in the industry?
All three of them followed Terry silently to the sixth floor with doubts and walked into a small conference room.
After everyone sat down, Terry looked directly at Wayne and asked, "Director Greenberg, this time I came to talk to you and listen to your opinions. How do you want to release your video?"
"So don't you need to watch the movie first?" Wayne asked the other party strangely. "If possible, I hope to sign an issuance contract with you and issue it in the mainstream way."
His strategy has not changed, asking for prices everywhere and paying back the money. This is also his way of testing the other party. Wayne didn't know why they came to him, and he didn't believe that pies would fall from the sky.
"There will be an internal test session. You need to prepare the film copy and project-related information in the future, and you can arrange it tomorrow."
He thought about Terry's words, which made him even more confused. The other party did not continue to discuss the issue, and he was ready to be ridiculed by the other party and sold it with a loss, which made him feel a sense of stuffyness in the air with all his strength.
"Okay, I will come here with a copy tomorrow. So what is the issue related to distribution?"
"Okay, that's it. You can prepare for it when you go back and wait for the internal movie to talk about it before you can talk about it. We need to know the quality of your movie before you can customize the distribution strategy." Terry said that, and took the initiative to stand up and shook hands with Wayne again before ending the conversation.
The three of them walked into the building in a daze and walked out in a daze. It was not until they got into the car that Naomi shouted:
"Ah! Wayne, have you seen it? They are going to release our film. Oh my God, Twentieth Century Fox is going to release our film!"
This sound woke Jimmy and Wayne up. The two looked at each other with questioning eyes. They understood that this was abnormal and very illogical.
"Jimmy, do you think the movie I made may be so famous that it has reached Fox. Do you ask them to come to me to discuss the release? Or am I not awake?" Wayne was in a car and felt that he might have had hallucinations.
Jimmy frowned after hearing this: "Impossible, who do you think you are? Normally, even if you take the movies and even pay them for free, these giant companies will not look at you more."
"Yes, there's no reason." Wayne felt something was wrong with driving the car in the parking lot. "What should we do, Jimmy, will you bring the copy and come here tomorrow?"
"Come on, no matter what, this is a huge opportunity." Jimmy took a hard shot of the seat and continued: "We have no choice. When they finish watching the movie and discussing the issue of release, they should understand what's going on."
Just as they drove out of the parking lot, another office on the sixth floor of Fox Building, a Jewish man in his fifties, was looking at their car from the window.
"Terry, I will participate in the test session tomorrow. I will call Yulianna again. There are only three of us, so you can make arrangements in advance."
"Okay, Mr. Rossman."
Yuliana Affedeva, one of the 20th Century Fox film selection experts, usually has some say in the company's introduction and distribution of videos. She is a real professional film viewer in the industry. She not only has to watch a large number of videos, but also chooses recommendations from them with market potential to the company.
Yuliana is a hard-core supporter of Townsend Roseman for many years, and the relationship between the two has been very good. Yuliana's best thing is to understand the market trends, and she is definitely not as empty as a film critic. She can analyze what type of videos the market needs at any time.
Townsend thought about it for a long time after the lawyer left. He didn't think a small-scale favor test was a 20-year-old novice director's hand-held work required to dispatch top experts like Yuliana Affteva.
What made him change his mind was the news that Terry found out. The vampire Harvey Weinstein actually took a fancy to this video, which gave Townsend some interest. He wanted to see what kind of film this young man who had not graduated had made, and why did he let the dead fat pig chase him and buy it out.
For Townsend Roseman, the test film will be a formality, and then throw the film into the theater for screening and give it favor. He has a lot of things and doesn't have that much spare time to care about such low-cost independent movies.
But the subsequent investigation report of Terry and the news about Harvey made him interested and prepared to let Yulianna see if there is any market prospect.
In Wayne's apartment, Luke, who had just arrived, also found this incredible under Jimmy's account. But now they don't have time to consider those and discuss tomorrow's test session together.
"Luke, make sure there is no problem with the film. You have to check it again tomorrow morning." Wayne thought hard about the preparations, and he understood that he had no chance of making mistakes.
"Don't worry, there will be no accident." Luke was full of confidence. He was about to go to find his next job, but he didn't expect that this movie would have a turnaround.
Seeing that they had finished discussing, Jimmy spoke: "Wayne, you have to make plans in advance and how to sign the issuance contract."
"Do you think we are qualified to provide conditions? Don't be stupid Jimmy. After the trial tomorrow, let's see what the other party said." Wayne looked at Jimmy helplessly and continued:
"As long as the other party is willing to release the video, even if I can buy it out at a loss, I said that my bottom line is much lower than you think."
"What if Fox is willing to release it in the normal mode?" Naomi asked him.
"Nami, I haven't had the aura of mental retardation since I was a child. How stupid is the head of the Fox distribution department to be willing to agree to the fantasy conditions I put forward?"
That's right, every time he negotiates with the issuing company, he will first propose mainstream issuance conditions, but he asks for a huge price to test the other party's bottom line.
"Okay, no matter what, let's put our questions aside and focus all our energy on tomorrow's trial." Jimmy clapped his hands and attracted several people's attention. "Wayne, even if the pie fell this time was covered with bombs, can you resist eating it?"
