Chapter 95 A small victory

The German commander did not know that the machine gun firepower that had attacked his troops came from the two machine gun platoons led by Vasily; and the soldiers shouting "Ula" charge were the main forces of the Istrian Battalion. But he saw that the number of Soviet troops was more than him. If he fought head-on, he would not be his opponent at all, so he immediately ordered a retreat.
After an hour of time was returned, Lieutenant Vasily left the highlands with his troops. Belkin, who should have stayed in the command post of the mountain battalion, walked into the observation post with two other company commanders. As soon as the three of them came in, they immediately made the narrow observation post more crowded.
Sokov didn't expect these three people to appear here suddenly, so he asked strangely: "Comrade Deputy Battalion Commander, why did you suddenly come to me?"
"That's right, Comrade Battalion Commander." Belkin explained to Sokov: "We learned that the cannon company had arrived on the high ground and thought there was any combat mission, so we rushed here to accept your order."
Since seeing the firefight in the distance and the sneak attack turned into a strong attack, Sokov secretly regretted that there were two radio stations in his camp, but he didn't even think that he should bring one to the high ground, which would lead to the inability to contact the troops at the foot of the mountain in time. If Vasily did not take action first and then report, and took the initiative to carry the cannon to the high ground, he could only watch the small team of Bavel fighting alone.
At this moment, when he heard Belkin say that he was going to the high ground to accept the mission, a new hope ignited in his heart: if the troops at the foot of the mountain followed these people to the high ground, he could take the opportunity to launch a counterattack against the German army. Therefore, he asked tentatively: "Comrade Deputy Battalion Commander, how many people have you come?" As soon as he said that, he was afraid that the other party would not understand what he meant, and he added, "What I asked was whether you were only three of you, or whether the main force of the battalion had come."
"I brought all the main forces of the battalion." Belkin explained to Sokov with a smile: "Except the remaining platoon of the machine gun company, I brought all the 1st Company, the 2nd Company and your guard platoon."
"That's great, this is really great." Sokov suddenly felt a little fond of him when he heard Belkin say this. For the first time, he discovered that his deputy political battalion commander was not that annoying. Since the main force of the battalion had reached the high ground, he could take the initiative to attack and disrupt the enemy.
He said to several commanders: "I'm now giving orders: the third company, continue to stay in the high ground; the first company, the second company and the guard platoon, follow me!"
Although Saviev was extremely dissatisfied with Sokov's deployment, he could not sing the opposite at this time. He could only grit his teeth and answer loudly like the other two company commanders: "Yes!"
Sokov turned his face to Belkin and said to him with a smile: "Comrade Deputy Battalion Commander, you are a political cadre and have no combat experience, so stay on the high ground."
Unexpectedly, as soon as he finished speaking, he saw Belkin pulling out his pistol and said with a serious expression: "Comrade Battalion Commander, please let me attack with you! I have fought with the Germans in Spain and have rich combat experience. I will never drag you down on the battlefield."
Sokov's old face turned red. He didn't expect that the political cadre he looked down upon had actually fought with the Germans on the Spanish battlefield. He thought to himself: Belkin is his deputy, but he knew nothing about his previous experience. In order to get rid of this embarrassing situation, he hurriedly said: "Okay, comrade deputy battalion commander, since you say that, let's lead the troops to attack together."
The machine gun company that set out first affected their marching speed because the weapons and ammunition they carried affected their marching speed. Therefore, the second company that set out late soon caught up with them. In this way, the infantry could immediately charge towards the enemy as soon as the machine gun fired.
Sokov, with his guard platoon and the attacking troops, was advancing towards the German artillery position in the distance, and suddenly heard someone calling him, and then a soldier rushed to him. He looked closely and found it was Christopher. He asked quickly: "Christorf, why are you here? Where is Bavel, where is he?"
"Comrade Battalion Commander," Christopher was a little excited when he saw Sokov bringing the large troops to rescue. He said in a slightly trembling tone: "Corporal Bavel sees that the enemy's defense is too strict and we cannot blow up the enemy's artillery, so he ordered me to take people to retreat first, and he will take people behind to cover."
"How many people are left?" Sokov asked quickly: "Where is Bavel now? Has he withdrawn?"
"We have six people left." Christopher turned his head and looked in the direction where Bavel was and whispered: "A few minutes ago, I heard gunfire sounds on Corporal Bavel and their blocking positions, but now there is no sound. I don't know if he was sacrificed or captured."
"Christov," Sokov said in a stern tone after he finished speaking, "I know Bavel. Even if he dies with the Germans, he will never be captured. I guess he must be too injured and fainted. You should take someone to find him immediately, and you will die if you die. Do you understand?"
"I understand, Comrade Battalion Commander." Christopher agreed, and took the soldiers who had retreated with him back again to find Bavel's whereabouts.
In the night battle, if the command is not properly commanded, it will cause unnecessary chaos. When the German commander ordered the troops to retreat, he originally wanted to retreat to the artillery position and defend. Unexpectedly, when the German soldiers saw hundreds of Soviet troops, rushing towards them under the cover of more than a dozen MG34 machine guns, and immediately became disorganized. The retreat became a retreat. Not only the soldiers were fleeing, but the officers were also fleeing. Everyone wanted to have two more legs. They threw away the things that hindered the escape and fled to the forest in the south, fearing that if they ran slowly, they would be caught by the Soviet troops behind them.
The cannons and trucks that the German army lost were seized by the soldiers of the Istrian battalion; the tents, guns and various supplies they threw away were also seized. Belkin stood on the artillery position, looking at the five 150 howitzers seized, and he was so happy that he couldn't close his mouth.
