Chapter 1391 crushing the Ganges fleet

The Mughal Empire's inland fleet appeared at the mouth of the Ganges River. The fleet of up to 300 large and small merchant ships, fishing boats and arson ships planned to turn from the Ganges River to the tributary of the Hugli River, and then surround the Kolkata Castle from the river surface.

Shah Jahan has completely sacrificed his life and sent all the inland ships to besiege. You should know that the East India Company has only 4 to 5 large ships on the Hugli River, while the Mughal Empire used more than 300 large ships!

Even so, the Mughal Empire was still afraid of its own failure and placed its hope on arson ship filled with dry firewood and gunpowder. The shipbuilding levels of the two sides were more than a generation different. The Mughal Empire did not even have a navy, and could only use inland transport ships, coastal fishing boats and merchant ships that transport military supplies.

As the vast inland fleet just left the Yokogawa estuary, they happened to run into a ship coming from Malacca to support.

Bang! The fifty artillery-level sail battleship Dahan cuts the wind and waves, the waves were split by the bow, and the white waves splashed to both sides!

Two sail frigates followed closely, and two troop transport ships were also behind.

"Discover a fleet suspected to be the Mughal Empire!" cried the sailor who was watching with a telescope.

"Report the number of enemy ships!"

"About 200 to 300 ships, most of them are small boats without any combat power!"

"Fire the gun to drive them away!"

Without hesitation, the Dahan led the two frigates and pounced on them like evil wolf seeing a flock of sheep!

The artillery roared on the warships, white smoke filled the warships, and solid shells smashed into the Mughal fleet like meteors! The Mughal's inland fleet is no better than the large ships in the ocean. Most of them have almost no defense. If they are hit by solid shells, they can be easily destroyed!

Chen Bangyan, who went to Malacca City for help, was on the Korean call. He witnessed this battle with great strength.

Three large sailboats with 12-pound and 24-pound artillery mounted to hang 300 Mughal river vessels at the mouth of the Ganges!

Unexpectedly, the commander of the Mughal Empire, who would encounter the Nanyang Fleet ships at the mouth of the Ganges River, was busy commanding the fleet. All ships of all sizes were already in chaos and were at a loss.

The only arson ship that can cause effective damage to the sailing ship has nowhere to attack without preparation in advance, the direction of the wind direction and the ocean current are incorrect, and can only pray that it will not be hit by shells.

After being sunk by artillery, the inland fleet had to escape back to the lower reaches of the Ganges. During the escape, many small boats were actually sunk by their own ships.

"Their ships on the Ganges actually wanted to enter the Bay of Bengal. It seems that they were planning to enter the Hugli River and encircle Kolkata from the waterway. This means that their emperor's 100,000 troops have arrived near Kolkata, and we are going to arrive in Kolkata quickly." Chen Bangyan saw that the fleet was dispersed at the mouth of Yokogawa, and it was easy to judge the other party's intention.

Such a group of ships of all sizes is difficult to navigate from a long distance, and can only be close to the coastline. The intention is probably to enter the Hugley River to fight along the coastline.

However, the inland fleet was driven back by three large sailing ships before they could succeed...

"Give up chasing and continue to move towards Kolkata." The captain of the Daehan stormed for a while, then sank several slow-moving ships, and was eager to chase along the Ganges.

Bullying such an inland boat with no combat effectiveness does not have much sense of accomplishment for him and will delay time.

After killing the other side's inland fleet, the three large sailing ships continued to sail westward to enter the estuary of the Hugli River. There were still many Tubon soldiers who fell into the water on the sea and struggling or hugging the driftwood...

The inland fleet, dispersed by strong ships and powerful cannons, saw that the terrible sailing warships did not follow, and then gathered again in the lower reaches of the Ganges.

The commander of the Mughal Empire wiped the cold sweat from his forehead with lingering fear. He had not fought with the large sailboat equipped with a large number of artillery artillery, and was frightened by the firepower of the sailboat. His transport ships, fishing boats, and merchant ships were no match for him at all!

"It's so terrible. The enemy has come with ships with huge firepower. This time, even if we enter the Hugley River, it will be difficult to pose a threat to their fleet. Arson ships may not be easy to use. What should we do?" The commander of the Ganges fleet was hesitant.

If you continue to advance towards the Hugley River, the three terrifying sailboats of the other side and several ships of the East India Company will be enough to use artillery to block the riverside. They are in the upper reaches, and the arson ships are in the lower reaches, and it is very difficult to set fire with the other side's dense artillery.

The opponent's commander may also be on guard against the tactics of arson ship. If the arson fails, it will probably be chased by the opponent's ship again.

Retreat is not feasible. The emperor has ordered them to go to the Hugli River to destroy the East India Company ships and completely block the Hugli River. As a result, they are beaten up by three enemy ships at the mouth of the Ganges River and flee back with their tails. Wouldn't it be angering the emperor and executed him?

After a while of confusion, he decided to continue to move towards the Hugley River.

The Ganges fleet left the Ganges estuary again, but this time they seemed cautious and rescued their companions who were still floating on the Ganges estuary onto the ship.

There were only about 20 ships lost under the attack of artillery, and more than a dozen were stranded intentionally or unintentionally while fleeing, and the size of the Ganges fleet was reduced by more than one-tenth.

Although the fleet is huge because of its large number, they all know in their hearts how much their fleet is, and they are not the opponent of the other big ship.

If the Mughal Empire had a powerful navy, they would not have been harassed by the Portuguese for decades but could not have driven them away.

The Ganges fleet sailed slowly towards the Hugli River with a complex mood of not wanting to fight but unable to disobey the order. They began to drag on, and the only trace of luck disappeared with the unbalanced battle at the mouth of the Ganges.

On the other side, the Daehan, two frigates and two troop transport ships were entering the Hugley River at full speed.

The Dahan formation of the Nanyang Fleet left behind in Malacca City, and after one of the 12th Corps learned that Kolkata Fort was besieged, it immediately summoned its troops to support it.

It can be said that Kolkata was driving the whole body, and the South China Fleet temporarily stopped attacking smuggling ships, pirate ships and indigenous kingdoms, and used the last formation, the Dahan formation, to escort two troop transport ships, and to bring about an infantry battalion and an artillery company of about 1,500 people to support Kolkata!

When they arrived at Kolkata Fort, the castle was still safe and sound. The Mughal Emperor's army was still in Plasi, not far from Kolkata, waiting for the Ganges fleet to cut off the Kolkata Castle from the water before launching a strong attack from land.
