Chapter 62: The State of Yan (1)

Among the Seven Heroes of the Warring States Period, Yan State was a very magical and alternative country.

The ten thousand years of suffering from the air should be a relatively accurate definition of Yan State.

There is a widely circulated saying, "In ancient times, there are many generous and tragic people in Yan and Zhao", so the four words "generous and tragic people" seem to have become synonymous with Yan and Zhao people in thousands of years later.

However, if Yan and Zhao are separated and their history is carefully studied, you will find that the history of Zhao State is magnificent and killing everywhere, and it is indeed worthy of the word generosity.

As for Yan State... Except for the time when the five countries attacked Qi, they were basically sang sad most of the rest...

The territory of Yan State was also called Youzhou during the Three Kingdoms era, which is the later Beijing-Tianjin-Tang Dynasty and the Liaodong Peninsula.

In this era, the climatic conditions here were extremely harsh, especially in winter, it was difficult to travel by ice and snow. It was an exile place during the Xia and Shang dynasties.

It was not until King Wu of Zhou, Ji Fa, attacked Shang and established the Western Zhou Dynasty that Ji Fa granted his younger brother Zhao Gong Ji Shi here, and the Yan State was established from this, and this land began to usher in the dawn of civilization.

According to the nature of the seven heroes of the Warring States Period, Yan State should have slowly risen and beat up everything around it and then grow and grow, and finally become one of the seven heroes of the Warring States Period. However, Yan State did not follow the ordinary path.

After its establishment, the expansion of Yan State was extremely slow. It was not until hundreds of years later that it annexed Ji State and regarded Ji City as its capital, thus beginning to emerge. Ji City was the predecessor of Beijing City.

Zhao Gongshi and Zhou Gongdan were both important officials of the royal family of the Ji family when the founding of the Western Zhou Dynasty. Therefore, the Yan and Lu countries established by them became firm defenders and practitioners of the Zhou Dynasty's patriarchal system, and this practice lasted for hundreds of years.

Even after King Ping of Zhou moved east to Luoyi, the authority of the Zhou Dynasty's emperor was weakened completely, and after the Central Plains began to enter the Spring and Autumn Period, the Yan State, located in a bitter and cold land, still proudly upholds the Zhou Dynasty's etiquette and legal system, and regards the vassal states who actively embrace the changes in the times as rebels.

But the wheel of history is always rolling forward. If you insist on sticking to the old system and not willing to follow the trend of the times to make changes, then you will definitely become backward.

If you fall behind, you will be beaten.

Shanrong in the northern part of Yan seized this opportunity to invade south, captured the Jidu of Yan in one fell swoop, and almost destroyed Yan.

It was entirely up to the first overlord in the Spring and Autumn Period, and Duke Huan of Qi, who put forward the slogan of "respecting the king and expelling the barbarians", sent troops to help. The Qi army attacked Shanrong, destroyed Guzhu, and other surrounding enemies, which saved Yan State from the most serious crisis since the founding of the country.

Logically speaking, at this time, Yan State should be shameless and brave?

No.

From then on, Yan State started the road to being beaten, beaten by Zhongshan State, beaten by Qi State, beaten by Jin State, then beaten by Zhao State, which was split from Jin State...

If the Central Plains countries had not been hindered by each other because they were unwilling to make their enemies stronger, Yan would have been annexed by one of Jin, Qi and Zhao long ago.

For hundreds of years in the Warring States Period, Yan State has always been the last one in competition with South Korea. It has to be said that this has a great relationship with Yan State sticking to the Zhou Dynasty's etiquette and ignoring the trend of the times.

But even a thousand-year-old young man had a rise. When time entered the Warring States Period, Yan State finally showed signs of awakening and gradually kept up with the pace of the times.

The most glorious moment of the Yan Kingdom in the entire Warring States Period was the era of King Zhao of Yan decades ago.

During the reign of King Zhao of Yan, he worked hard to govern and recruited a large number of talents such as Le Yi, Ju Xin, Qin Kai, Zou Yan, Qu Yong, etc., which made Yan State become stronger quickly.

After the prosperity, Yan State began to use troops abroad. First, Qin Kai led the Yan army to defeat Donghu and expand the territory thousands of miles eastward. Then Yan State seized the opportunity to organize a wave of five countries to attack Qi, and almost completed the feat of completely annexing Qi State to the snake and swallowing elephant.

It can be said that the era of King Zhao of Yan was the most powerful and proud period of the entire Yan State since its founding seven hundred years ago.

It’s a pity that the heroic ruler of Yan Zhao died on the eve of the upcoming annexation of Qi. After his son, King Hui of Yan, was defeated by Tian Dan’s plan of discord, replaced Le Yi with a cavalry, and finally became the background and villain of Tian Dan’s restoration country.

So after this brief glory, Yan State fell again and returned to the familiar Warring States Period's position of being enchanted until now.

The poet Li Bai once wrote a poem: "Don't you see that the Yan family valued Guo Wei in the past, and there was no doubt that they could guess. The opera, Xin and Leyi were grateful, and they lost their liver and gallbladder to be effective in talent. King Zhao's bones were lingering in the wild grass, who could even sweep the golden platform?" It tells the story of King Zhao's era and after his decline.

But the end of the era of King Zhao of Yan is only more than twenty years after all. Today, there are still many legacies of this great king in Yan State, and Wuyang City is one of them.

Like the state of Chu, there are Yingdu and Yandu, and the state of Yan has two capitals, namely the Shangdu Jicheng (also known as Jidu) and the Xiadu Wuyang City.

This Wuyang City is located between the Beiyishui and Zhongyishui. It is sixteen miles long and ten miles wide, and is generally irregularly rectangular. Its total circumference reaches an astonishing fifty miles. In the era of King Zhao of Yan, it was once the most prosperous and populous city in the world, no doubt about it.

Wuyang City is divided into two cities, east and west, east city is palace city and west city is Guo city, and northeast (i.e. the direction where Yan State is located) is completely different from the practice of respecting the southwest (where the emperor of the Zhou Dynasty is located) in the present.

There are three high-rise palaces in the palace city, from south to north, Wu balcony, Wangjingtai and Zhanggongtai. In addition, there is an Lao Mutai outside the city that is specially designed for sacrifices.

This palace city is where the king of Yan lives today.

Twelve years ago, Gongsun Cao, a powerful minister of Yan State, killed King Hui of Yan, and later chose a puppet from the royal family to ascend the throne. This is the current King of Yan.

Since the regicide incident occurred in Jidu and caused extremely bad international influence, the King of Yan did not live in Jidu after ascending the throne, but lived in Wuyang City for a long time. The political center of Yan State gradually moved from Jidu to Wuyang.

At noon that day, a grand court meeting had just ended in the Wu balcony. The ministers of Yan State walked out of the palace on the high platform in groups, and then each took their own carriages and left.

At the end were an old man with gray hair and a Hu costume in Zhao State, as well as a young but quite calm handsome man in Yan State.

The old man was Pang Yan, the envoy of Zhao State, and the handsome man next to the old man was named Lejian, who was the king of Changguo of Yan State.

This Chang Guojun had a famous father in the Le family, which was the Yan General Le Yi who once shocked the world.

After being dismissed by King Hui of Yan, Le Yi was afraid of being removed from his donkey, so Le Yi fled back to his mother country, Zhao State, and was named Wang Jun by Zhao State.

Later, Le Yi and King Hui of Yan reconciled, so King Hui of Yan asked Le Yi's eldest son Le Jian to inherit the title of Changguojun in Yan State. As a result, the Le Yi family returned to the court of Yan State. After his father's death, Le Jian also became one of the leaders of the Zhao faction in Yan State.

At this moment, the old and young people in Pang Nuan and Le didn't look very good, it was obviously because the grand court discussion had just ended.

Pang Nuan whispered to Lejian: "Mr. Chang, I have seen the words and actions of King Yan, which are mostly intended to attack Zhao. Now Yan has already hated Qi and wants to attack Zhao. Isn't this a self-destruction? I hope you will talk about King Yan and make sure that the King of Yan will not do this foolish behavior."

Lejian shook his head and sighed, "Don't I know what Mr. Pang said? But the king has never liked me, so it is difficult for me to do this."

After hearing the words from the music scene, Pang Nuan was very disappointed.

In Pang Nuan's opinion, this should have been a very easy mission, but after entering Yan State, he found that the Yan State seemed to be sharpening his sword and preparing to start a war.

Even though Pang Nuan was talking about the pros and cons of the Lotus during the discussion of the big court just now, the King of Yan remained silent, and it seemed that he was about to make up his mind to send troops to Yan State.

Although most kings in this world are reasonable, some kings, such as the King of Yan, will really not listen to anything you say to him.

Although Pang Nuan did not receive the help of Chang Guojun Lejian, he did not seem very discouraged.

After saying goodbye between the two parties, the carriage Pang Nuan was riding did not drive outside the palace, but turned straight to another high-platform palace in the palace - Wangjingtai.

This viewing platform is where Empress Yan, the lord of the Yan State harem, lives. This Empress Yan has another identity, that is, the younger sister of Zhao Dan, the king of Zhao State.
