Chapter 29 The Witcher

Monday, working day.

Queens, Kew Gardens.

Today's first trial is about to begin.

The judge raised his gavel and knocked on the table to signal the people who came to hear the trial to remain silent.

Not long after, an old man in a neat suit was brought up by the bailiff. He stood opposite the judge and waited patiently.

Between them sat the recorder.

"Trespassing and obstructing a criminal investigation."

After reading this, the bald judge paused because he had recited a large number of legal provisions. He couldn't even read the defendant's name.

"Setrakian... or Mr. Setrakian..."

"As you wish, Mr. Judge."

Abraham raised his head and waved his hand, as if he didn't really care.

Behind the old man, a few jurors were scattered here and there, some appointed by the prosecutor and some good citizens who volunteered to come and observe.

Lu Li is one of them.

When he brought the two survivors back to the apartment last night, it was already past three o'clock in the morning. In order not to miss the meeting with the demon hunter Abraham, he used his rest time to clean himself up and change into formal clothes.

However, all the efforts are worth it.

When he first saw the old man, Lu Li noticed that he was special. His beard and hair were white and yellowish, but his eyes were not cloudy at all.

Others thought he was only in his seventies, but Lu Li, who had inquired about the information from the bailiff through his connections, knew that Abraham was already ninety-four years old.

A centenarian old man, fighting monsters with a sword and a staff, is extraordinary when you think about it.

On the other side, the judge also quickly read the report submitted by the prosecutor and said loudly:

"Sir, for the love of President John F. Kennedy, please tell me what you did at JFK Airport on Saturday night?"

After speaking, the bald judge pushed up his glasses and looked at the defendant Abraham carefully.

Squeak...

At the same time, Lu Li heard movement next to him and subconsciously tilted his head——

Female Doctor Nora!

An unexpected person pushed open the door and entered.

For a time, Lu Li had many speculations in his mind:

Could it be that Dr. Iver from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention discovered something and specially sent his partner to win over the old man?

Or, is there any trouble that the old man needs help solving?

Anyway, it can’t be a chance encounter!

While Lu Li was thinking, Nora also noticed him, and their eyes collided.

Unfortunately, there were no sparks.

Considering the sanctity of the court, the female doctor put her bag on the seat next to Lu Li and sat down silently.

"I... saw a news on TV about the plane landing..."

The old man seemed to be tired from standing, and he kept saying something to take a breath, which made many jurors feel pity for him.

"Hmm...I'm not sure..."

Abraham's voice gradually became muddy, as if there was thick phlegm stuck in his throat: "Your Honor, I am old and I can't remember clearly."

Hearing this, Dr. Nora looked puzzled and a little disappointed. What the old man said at the airport the night before yesterday came true. Therefore, she rushed over to ask some questions——

Before losing contact, the chief medical examiner called Dr. Iver and told Dr. Iver that there was a wound on the neck of the two hundred and six deceased people. It was so tiny that it was so delicate that no human being could use any technology to make it.

Last night, the medical team used ultraviolet light to find a wound on Captain Redfern's neck. It was difficult to see with the naked eye, but it did exist.

Why did the captain survive despite the same wounds and other passengers dying?

What are those aggressive bugs?

They are rewriting the human body structure and want to create a new organ. What is their intention?

Dr. Nora did not dare to continue thinking about it because there were too many doubts.

Fortunately, Lu Li didn't know this, otherwise, he would have collapsed too.

However, one thing is certain, the old man is pretending to be stupid.

After all, when it comes to acting, Lu Li definitely has the right to speak. A serious art candidate, after coming to this mysterious school, he took the exam three times in a row, playing the roles of a detective, an officer, and a policeman. He can be said to be an experienced actor.

Although the judge did not have this kind of vision, he was well-informed. He sneered, turned to the next page of the file, browsed briefly, and asked again: "Do you have a pawn shop on East 118th Street?"

Upon hearing this, Abraham did not deny it. He remained lifeless and replied: "Yes, the documents are complete and registered."

The judge was about to ask further questions on this topic, but before he could speak, he heard the defendant slowly say:

"After World War II, I was rescued from a concentration (camp) by the Allied forces, and then I came here to make a living by recycling antiques and silverware."

After the words fell, whispers started to sound, and the jury members all looked at the old man in front of them with sympathy, who could not even stand firmly.

Not only that, even the judge changed his sitting posture and softened his tone: "Sir, who lives with you, your wife?"

"I am a widower, your honor."

Abraham shook his head. He thought of his long-dead wife and couldn't help but lower his head, lest his eyes be too sharp and all his previous efforts would be wasted.

The judge, who was also quite young, could sympathize with the pain of losing his wife. He put his hands together and said, "Where are the children and grandchildren?"

"We've never been that lucky."

Abraham replied solemnly.

It was unimaginable what this old man had gone through in his life, and some female jurors began to cry.

Lu Li sighed deeply, because no one would use this to lie to others.

In this way, more than a dozen pairs of eyes looked at the judge, waiting for him to make a decision.

In fact, the judge is also a human being, not a cold machine. He closed the file: "I don't care about the crimes of illegal trespassing and obstructing criminal investigation."

"But this is what I care about."

A cane was carried to the judgment seat.

The entire body was made of platinum, and the armrests were engraved with wolf heads. Under the gaze of everyone, the judge pressed the mechanism and slowly pulled out a long sword from inside.

silverware!

Lu Li regained his energy and inadvertently straightened his back and sat upright, which made Dr. Nora look puzzled.

"Sir, this is a concealed weapon."

In fact, the judge had already made up his mind, and his tone was not a question, but an admonishment, saying: "In New York City, we have strict laws."

"This, this is an antique, Your Excellency."

"I just use it as a crutch."

"To me, it means a lot and is a symbol of family prestige."

The old man was shivering, giving people a feeling of exhaustion.

"I promise I will take it out and destroy it."

He had suffered a life of misery, had a good attitude towards admitting his mistakes, and was getting old. The judge was unwilling to hold him responsible any longer and suggested: "Remember to replace it with a rubber-aluminum-soled crutch."

"This case is dismissed!"

The gavel fell heavily.

Ten minutes later, the second case officially began.

Outside the court, the sun was shining just right.

The old man is leaning on his sword and cane and walking steadily. How can he look old?
