Chapter 2 The distress of telling the truth
Standing on the steps in front of the police station gate, Lit moved his handcuffed wrists, but what appeared in his mind was the expression of Carter and Tom's angry but unable to attack after hearing that he was bailed by a lawyer.
The two agreed that they were fooled by Li Te, but Li Te was really innocent because he searched all the memories in his mind and found no information about the lawyer Johnny Kirkland. In other words, the predecessor of this body did not know each other at all.
Johnny Kirkland, who was walking in front, turned around and looked at Litt.
"Aren't you going to ask me something before leaving here?"
"Maybe, I should say thank you!" Lite hesitated for a moment and raised his head: "But I may not be able to pay your attorney fee, at least not now."
"You're very humorous!"
Johnny Kirkland held back his smile and reached out to pat Lit on the shoulder. It was obvious that the young man in front of him did not know his fame and status in the lawyer's business, otherwise he would never have said such stupid words.
Not to mention that Lite is now a pauper who can't even afford the rent, he has a decent job now. If there is no special opportunity, he probably won't be able to afford a lawyer at the level of Johnny Kirkland in his life.
Thinking of this, Johnny Kirkland couldn't help but look at Lite's face again, because there was an opportunity to change his destiny in front of this young man. If he could seize it, perhaps he might really become his client in the future.
"Let's go, don't let Mr. Orwitz wait for a long time."
Johnny Kirkland opened the car door, sat in by himself, and then made a gesture to Lit to get in.
Li Te got into the car, but his face looked thoughtful.
Johnny Kirkland held the steering wheel in his hand and turned his head and said, "I thought you would ask where we are going first."
Lite shrugged without objection. In fact, he really wanted to ask this question just now. The reason why he didn't ask was that he suddenly realized that he had no other place to go except to follow Johnny Kirkland.
He was accused of intentional injury by his landlord, and the apartment was unable to go back for the time being. Moreover, neither Li Te nor the former owner of this body had any nostalgia for the shabby residence.
"Mr. Orwitz asked you to bail me?"
The car was driving on a straight road, and Johnny Kirkland held the steering wheel and looked ahead.
"You're just realizing this problem now, and the reaction is really not very sensitive," he turned his head, "of course, I have no intention of saying this."
"Michael Orwitz?" Litt asked uncertainly.
The answer to him was a violent brake.
Because he didn't wear a seat belt, Lit's head almost had an intimate contact with the front windshield. Before he could ask what was going on, Johnny Kirkland's unquestionable words had already reached his ears.
"Listen, you are just Mr. Orwitz's former assistant. Before you graduated from college, Mr. Orwitz provided you with such a valuable internship opportunity, so I think you should be grateful in your heart... Well, if you think these are already past tense, I will tell you that now, Mr. Orwitz has left CAA and you are no longer his assistant, but Mr. Orwitz still asked me to come over to deal with this matter as soon as you learned that you were arrested in the police station. Not only did you not be grateful to Mr. Orwitz, but you even called him his name. To be honest, your performance just now really disappointed me!"
Litt had a big mouth, and he didn't know that his predecessor had such a deep connection with Michael Orwitz. He asked just now, just to confirm whether Mr. Orwitz, whom Johnny Kirkland mentioned, was the famous former CAA leader.
Now the matter has been confirmed, but it has left a bad impression in Johnny Kirkland's heart of not knowing gratitude. Lite is really depressed.
Johnny Kirkland was not ready to explain to Li Te, so he started the car directly. He had been driving attentively on the road ahead and was too lazy to talk to Li Te anymore.
Lite originally wanted to save it, but seeing Johnny Kirkland posing like this, of course he would not stick to someone else's cold butt, so he simply closed his eyes and tried to digest more memories left in his body before meeting the Hollywood legend, so as not to cause any misunderstandings.
This memory doesn't matter. The "deep" relationship between the former owner of this body and Michael Orwitz was really beyond Lit's expectations.
During college, he got an internship at CAA, a famous Hollywood agency. Not long after he worked, he was promoted to the president's assistant because of his outstanding performance. Although in the CAA's flat company management model, Li Te's predecessor's assistant's main job was to do odd jobs in the office, he served Michael Orwitz.
This experience reminded Li Te a sentence - it doesn’t matter who you are, what matters is what kind of person you are with!
About Orwitz, there is a small episode that is particularly clear in Litt's memory. It was in April 1994. Orwitz slowly walked out of the funeral of former Disney president Frank Wells, looking around at the more than 5,000 people attending the funeral, and said to his wife beside her: "If I die tomorrow, 25,000 people will attend my funeral." Looking at his wife's puzzled expression, Orwitz continued, "Because everyone wants to confirm whether I really die."
This was heard by Litt's predecessor who was following Orwitz at the time, and he was extremely shocked. He had heard Orwitz give a piece of advice from his father more than once: People will hate you because you always succeed.
Orwitz used his 20 years of experience in charge of CAA to prove this sentence well.
In 1975, when Orwitz and four partners founded CAA, they could only rent an office from their friends and find ways to buy all the office equipment for $200. In the next two years, they had not received a salary from the company. Even $100 they had to do something, and for top stars, they could only imagine.
Now 20 years later, CAA has moved into the luxurious Century City and owns the 8th floor of this 12-story futuristic building. The company has more than 300 agents and employees, with an annual profit of nearly $200 million. It owns nearly half of Hollywood entertainers, nearly 2/3 of the top stars, as well as top directors, producers, playwrights, singers and bands.
Orwitz led CAA to create a legend, spending 20 years turning CAA from an unknown Hollywood to a boss who can call the wind and rain in the entire entertainment industry, or even "cover the sky with one hand".
While achieving CAA, Orwitz himself became the only superstar agent in Hollywood that no one can surpass. He was elected "Hollywood's most influential person" for three consecutive years. As a university intern who has just entered society, Litt's predecessor, like many CAA employees, has become Orwitz's loyal admirer. Moreover, because of his work with Orwitz, he has heard and is more devoted than others.
Originally, with the experience of working with Orwitz, even if you don’t join the CAA after graduating from college, you can easily find a job in any other Hollywood agency. But perhaps because of the influence of Orwitz, Litt’s predecessor began to try to switch careers and do other jobs after Orwitz left CAA. Of course, he hit a wall everywhere and ended up falling out so much that he could not even afford the rent.
In Li Te's opinion, the predecessor's approach was a manifestation of ignorance, but it has to be said that it was precisely because of this cute stubbornness that he was able to receive enough attention from Orwitz as a small person. Even after hearing that something happened to him, he immediately asked his personal lawyer to come over to help him solve the problem.
"When will Mr. Orwitz leave Disney?"
Another violent brake was the difference, Johnny Kirkland parked the car directly in the middle of the road this time.
With the lesson from the last time, Li Te fastened his seat belt in advance this time, and naturally the incident of hitting his head against the glass did not happen again.
The sharp horns of the rear car forced Johnny Kirkland to start the car again, but he did not intend to let it go. The car quickly turned on a road with less traffic. Following Johnny Kirkland, he couldn't wait to ask, "Where did you hear this news?"
Lit shrugged, "I guess."
Johnny Kirkland was speechless.
Only a few people know that Orwitz is about to leave Disney, and even the media has not heard any news. Apart from guessing, Johnny Kirkland really can't think of a more appropriate reason to explain why Little knew about this.
"reason!"
Lite couldn't help but raise his middle finger at Johnny Kirkland. Damn it said he was guessing, but he still wanted a reason to be a big deal? Do I have to tell you that I came here from twenty years later?
Even though he was scolding in his heart, Lite could not offend Johnny Kirkland now. After all, this guy just caught himself out of the police station. Strictly speaking, Lite still owed him a favor.
"I said when Mr. Orwitz decided to leave CAA, that this was an irreversible mistake. No one believed me when I said that. Do you believe it now?"
The only time Lite's predecessor contradicted Orwitz in person was to oppose Orwitz leaving CAA. Now he has the chance to fire a hindsight, so Lite will certainly not let it go.
"At that time, there were many people who advised Mr. Orwitz to stay, which was nothing." Johnny Kirkland curled his lips, but his words seemed a little lacking in confidence.
"Mr. Orwitz's ability has always been highly praised by me, but Disney is not CAA after all, and it is not Mr. Orwitz's world. Mr. Orwitz has no foundation in Disney. The heads of various departments who were overwhelmed by Mr. Orwitz in negotiations are definitely unwilling to accept this airborne 'emperor'. And the president of Disney, Mr. Eisner, known as the "Lion King", has long been used to doing everything himself. He will never tolerate a disobedient president under his command. Unfortunately, Mr. Orwitz is such a person. To be honest, they were able to live peacefully for more than a year, which is far beyond my expectations."
Johnny Kirkland was silent. As Orwitz's personal lawyer, he certainly knew the truth about Orwitz's departure from Disney, and he was basically told by Lit.
When Orwitz decided to leave CAA to serve as Disney president, it was because of Eisner's kind invitation. Now the person who forced him to leave was Eisner. I have to say that this is a very ironic thing.
