Chapter 8 Carpenters and Painters

"They are a pair of brothers, I remember that I mentioned this to you on the phone yesterday." Jem Brown held the steering wheel in his hand. In order to facilitate conversation with Lit, he deliberately slowed down the speed of the car. "The brother is a carpenter and the younger brother is a paint maker. Two very interesting guys."

"Wait a minute!" Lit interrupted Jem Brown, "You just told me that they were doing Hollywood-related work, and now they said they were carpenters and painters. Are they specializing in making various props for the crew?"

"Of course not. The carpenter and the painter were just their previous jobs. Later, they changed their careers to become screenwriters and directed a movie not long ago. What's the name?" Jem Brown tried hard to recall it, but unfortunately he still didn't remember the name of the movie. "It's a movie that is not very famous anyway."

While saying this, Jem Brown also glanced at Lit from the corner of his eyes.

Two screenwriters with little fame, plus an agent with no fame, this combination is a perfect match!

Li Te did have some interest in the brothers he had never met, but that was only the case, because this is Los Angeles, and any person holding someone on the roadside could be a star, let alone various people working behind the scenes.

He became a screenwriter who became a monk halfway through the road and was not very famous. He made a low-cost, nameless movie. This is Li Te’s initial impression of the two.

Five minutes later, the car drove into the underground parking lot of a building. As soon as Litt and Jem Brown got out, a dazzling headlight suddenly came from the opposite side.

Lit and Jem Brown subconsciously raised their hands to block the strong light in front of them, but at this moment, the headlights on the opposite side turned off.

Two short and fat figures walked out of the car opposite, one of them was relatively taller and stronger, and walked over and shook hands with Jem Brown.

"I'm sorry, we just turned on the headlights just now just to see what you look like. The light in this parking lot is so dark."

This reason is still settled. Jem Brown glanced at Litt, and saw that there was no unhappy expression on his face, and he felt relieved.

"This is Mr. Lite. He is the one who intends to share the apartment above with you. I think you can get to know each other first."

Perhaps because he felt that the sudden turn on the headlights just now was a bit rude, the brother of the two brothers took the initiative to reach out to Lit, "Hello, I'm Larry."

The younger brother followed and came over, "Hello, I'm Andy."

Li Te shook hands with the two in turn, and at the same time briefly introduced himself to the two brothers.

I heard that Li Te is a Chinese, and the two brothers' eyes immediately changed when they saw each other.

"We like Chinese Kung Fu very much, and it feels so cool!"

As soon as his brother Larry finished speaking, his younger brother Andy immediately added: "Actually, he wanted to ask you where you can learn real kung fu like Bruce Lee."

Brother Larry turned his head and shouted to his younger brother Andy: "You're talking nonsense, I don't mean that at all!"

"Don't deny, I know that's what you think. From childhood to adulthood, as long as you lie, your left eyebrow will twist unnaturally..." Andy retorted unwillingly.

"Enough, I don't want to discuss this with you again!" Larry gestured a pause, turned his head and smiled apologetically at Lit: "We two often quarrel like this when we were once. In fact, this is not an quarrel, it is just a way for us to communicate."

Li Te looked at the two brothers who were shattering each other speechlessly, and naturally thought of the word "funny", but to be honest, he was not disgusted with it.

"As long as you no longer have time to rest, I should be fine."

Real estate agent Jem Brown was afraid that Larry would say even more outrageous things in front of Litt, and quickly suggested that everyone go upstairs to view the house together.

When entering the elevator, Larry deliberately lags behind half a body and walks with Lit.

"Man, do you really know the answer to the thing Andy mentioned just now?" he asked in a low voice.

Lite stopped, turned his head and looked at Larry with a very serious expression and said, "I don't know where to learn how Bruce Lee is like, but I know where to take pictures of how he is like!"

I thought this would dispel Larry's curiosity, but I didn't expect that the other party's eyes became brighter after hearing this.

"How do you know we are going to add elements of Chinese Kung Fu to the movie?"

Li Te was stunned. He was just talking nonsense just now, but he didn't expect the other party to really have this idea.

"Well, this question is a bit complicated to explain... On the way here, Mr. Brown told me that you just directed a movie not long ago, so I think you might be interested in this."

Seeing Larry, the Andy brothers looked at their faces, real estate agent Jem Brown nodded quickly, confirming Lit's statement.

"What job do you do?" Andy interrupted and asked when the elevator door was about to close.

"broker."

"Agent?!" Larry, Andy looked at each other, and his eyes changed immediately when he looked at Liter.

Without the enthusiasm just now, there was a bit of deliberate alienation.

Li Te immediately felt this change.

"What, is there any problem?"

"Very good, no problem."

As soon as Larry finished speaking, Andy immediately sang a counter-tune with him.

“The problem is serious!”

Lite pointed at himself, "It has something to do with me?"

“To be precise, it’s related to your profession.”

Despite Larry's opposition, Andy continued to explain: "Actually, we live in an apartment in Los Angeles, and the lease period has not come. The reason why we chose to move is because we just fired our agent, and he rented the apartment for us, and the contract was written with his name."

"So you think of me as someone like him?" Li Te's tone suddenly became a little unhappy. What did you do with your agent's messy matter on me?

"Sorry, we did lose our composure in the elevator just now. The main reason is that this incident has hit us a lot. We once trusted him so much, but in the end he joined forces with the producers to force us to compromise."

Even though many days have passed, Andy still seemed very excited when he talked about this.

"Enough, Andy, don't say it anymore!" Larry tried his best to restrain his emotions and prevent him from bursting out, so this sentence was almost squeezed out from his teeth.

Li Te didn't know what to say, his silence made the atmosphere in the elevator a little depressed.

Real estate agent Jem Brown couldn't interfere in this issue and could only worry about it. Fortunately, at this time, the elevator finally arrived at the floor to which he was going.

The person who rented the apartment was an old lady in her 70s. She warmly greeted everyone at the door, and then of course she took everyone to see the house.

This apartment for rent has a living room that integrates an open kitchen, study and living room, a bathroom and three bedrooms. On the left side of the entrance, there is a small utility room. Looking out from the window on the desk, you can just see San Gabriel's Town Hall.

Lite is generally satisfied with the environment. The Larry and Andy brothers don’t seem to have any objections. The rest is to discuss whether to rent this apartment together.

"You can discuss it here, Mrs. Geer and I are in the room next to us."

Because Jem Brown had dealt with his landlord's wife many times, they were already old acquaintances, so the other party invited him to have a cup of tea in the apartment he lived next to him.

Only Lit and Larry, the Andy brothers were left in the living room. After a brief silence, Larry spoke first.

"We think this is pretty good, what do you think?"

"I want the bedroom on the far left." Lite made only one request.

Larry and Andy exchanged glances quickly, then nodded together.

"Then let Mr. Brown prepare the contract, it's best to sign it today." Lit said with certainty.

"We think so too." Larry and Andy replied in unison.

After reaching a consensus on renting a house, the topic between the three became much easier.

"I've always forgotten to ask which agency you work for? CAA or WMA, or ICM?"

The brokerage mentioned by Larry is currently the three most powerful Hollywood companies. Needless to say, CAA, William Morris (WMA) is the oldest brokerage company in Hollywood, and International Innovation Management Company (ICM) has also had a good development momentum in the past two years as a rising star.

In addition to these three companies, Hollywood also has at least hundreds of brokerage companies of different sizes, but none of them are worth mentioning.

“I worked at CAA for a while and am now preparing to set up my own agency.”

Lite's words attracted greater interest from Larry and the Andy brothers.

"Start an agency yourself. Do you have any big-name stars in your hands?"

In the impression of the two, only agents who master big-name stars are qualified to leave the company and work alone, but Li Te's answer surprised them a little.

"No, I don't have any star on my hands."

Larry and Andy were stunned. Then Larry was about to speak, but Andy snatched it first.

"Don't tell us, now you are the only agent in your company?"

"Of course not. I have a partner, and he provided the funds for the establishment of the company." Litt did not say Michael Orwitz's name, so there was no feeling that the two brothers on the other side could hear.

There are too many such brokerage companies in Hollywood, and they are not even interested in asking about the name of the company, so they directly turn the topic to other aspects.

After chatting for about ten minutes, Jem Brown and his landlord's wife appeared again. They learned that the three of them had decided to rent the apartment. They were both very happy. Jem Brown took out the rental contract that had been prepared long ago. Both parties looked carefully and had no problem, and they signed it happily.

Lite went back to the hotel and checked in and was about to move in directly. Larry and Andy had to clean up some of the things in their original residence and sell some of the original furniture, so the date of staying in would be postponed for two days later.

In the underground parking lot, the two sides shook hands and said goodbye. When they got into the Jem Brown car, Lit remembered that he had forgotten to ask Larry what the Andy brothers were surnamed, and then they thought that they had signed the two on the rental contract, so they did not have to think about this issue anymore.
