Chapter 4 Change the plot

Cao Zheng rode his horse to the entrance of the temple. The dilapidated scene was too horrible to look at.

There are overgrown weeds between the ruins, and a few mice can be vaguely seen running past. It took only three years to get into this state, and the fat monk played a major role in it.

Cao Zheng moved forward carefully among the rubble and gravel, and he always felt as if something was crawling up his pants under his feet.

Looking down, I saw that my feet were on half a wooden board. After brushing off the heavy dust on it, I could barely see two big characters.

"Temple..."

This should be part of the plaque hanging on the main hall, the other half has long since disappeared.

Cao Zheng stood half a wooden board in the corner, patted his trouser legs and walked into the hall.

"Can this be repaired?" Cao Zheng frowned and looked at the scene in the hall, feeling that the system's judgment was indeed correct.

The heads of the clay sculptures of golden boys and girls are missing, and layers of cobwebs and dust are stuck to their bodies.

The severed hands and short legs of Yaksha on both sides look even more ferocious under the sparse sunlight.

Opposite Cao Zheng, a statue of a god leaned crookedly there, and it seemed that the "squeaking" sound of mice could still be heard.

At this moment, a figure came out from behind with a big smile: "Haha, brother, I'll be waiting for you!"

Cao Zheng turned around in excitement and looked back. It was the Chishui River God dressed in white.

The River God's demeanor remained the same, but Cao Zheng found him more and more strange. It probably had something to do with the fact that he decisively killed himself in the simulation.

Following the Chishui River God as we walked inside, the scene in front of us suddenly became different.

"Ouch~" Cao Zheng exclaimed exaggeratedly.

In front of us, ancient trees stand, surrounded by clouds and mist, and in the distance, fruit trees are covered with pink peaches. Two cranes are drinking water by the pond, chirping to the sky from time to time.

The lingering sound in my ears and the scent of sandalwood in my nose are like a fairyland.

Cao Zheng turned his head and looked at Chishui River God strangely.

"When friends come to visit, it's natural to make simple arrangements." Chishui River God said with some embarrassment.

The scenery in front of them was all illusion, and both of them knew it.

Cao Zheng pointed to the peach on the branch and asked: "Can this... be eaten?"

"No." Chishui River God became more and more embarrassed.

"The small temple has been slandered and its incense has been cut off for many years. How can I still have the divine power I had before? I have exhausted all my efforts to help you plan for an official position. Now I can only rely on my brother to save my life!"

Cao Zheng looked at the Chishui River God with some helplessness. Can this swollen face and pretending to be fat be stopped?

"Brother, I don't know, but what I miss the most is the turbid wine I drank with you that night." Chishui River God's eyes slowly fell on the small wine jar held by Cao Zheng.

Yes, you even have to prepare the wine yourself.

Cao Zheng smiled and shook his head, placing the juice jar on the table.

"I thought your temple only needed a simple cleaning, so it's better to just build a new one."

"Come, let's drink. Let's not talk about this for now." Chishui River God picked up the wine bowl and drank to his heart's content, looking like he had never eaten in eight lifetimes.

As we chatted, the faint screams actually appeared in our ears.

"Brother River God, is there anyone else in your temple?" Cao Zheng asked nonchalantly.

Chishui River God's face turned cold, he stood up, put down his wine bowl and said to Cao Zheng: "Brother, please come with me."

The scene that followed was exactly the same as the simulation. The living soul of a fat monk was being tied to a big pillar and whipped.

Cao Zheng forced himself not to blurt out the words "You are so wild", otherwise he would be the one hanging on the pillar next to him.

"This monk deceives the people into doing many evil things. I am punishing evil and promoting good." Chishui River God explained for himself.

"Punish evil and promote good?" Cao Zheng looked at Chishui River God's face, fearing that he would suddenly turn his back.

"Yes, this is the soul of the abbot of the temple in the same village. He came here to build construction projects three years ago to gather believers and steal my incense," Chishui River God said through gritted teeth.

Cao Zheng still felt that the crime was not serious. Isn't belief in this thing just based on one's own ability?

"This abbot slandered the Chishui River God as an evil heretic and an evil among the people. In the end, the temple will be destroyed and the god will be destroyed.

I used my last divine power to lock the monk’s soul, hang it here and whip it day and night to relieve the hatred in my heart!”

After Chishui River God finished speaking, he whipped the monk even harder.

The clues were strung together, and Cao Zheng finally understood the cause and effect of the incident. The story turned out to be about a fight for faith.

It stands to reason that if you, a monk, just eat your own bowl of rice obediently and then turn around and stare at other people's bowls, no one will feel resentful.

But this Chishui River God also has a problem. Wouldn't it be nice if you had the power to perform some miracles to attract believers? You would spend all your time beating this monk.

Cao Zheng really didn't want to get involved in this matter. When two big guys were fighting, why did they ask him to come over? They would kill him at every turn.

He held his chin and stared at the screaming monk.

Although he was killed by the Chishui River God in the end, this guy was definitely a key figure.

What is right and wrong is no longer that important. Cao Zheng just wants to end this story safely.

"Brother River God, you have to tie the bell to untie it. If you want to repair your temple, you have to rely on him." Cao Zheng pointed at the fat monk and said.

"Oh? I'd like to hear the details."

——

The next day, Cao Zheng visited the fat monk's temple.

The green trees and clear water at the entrance of the mountain are in sharp contrast to the Chishui Temple.

With the sound of Sanskrit chants and the fragrance of incense, believers climbed up the steps step by step.

Pushing open the red-lacquered wooden door and pushing aside the golden gauze curtain, Cao Zheng finally saw a fat monk lying leaning against the wall, muttering something in his mouth.

From the mountain gate to here, various scenes made Cao Zheng more inclined to the theory of Chishui River God.

These monks are indeed rich, and they seem to have made a lot of money.

Maybe it's not a good thing either.

Not bothering to talk nonsense, Cao Zheng only said that it was because of his plea that the Chishui River God spared the abbot's soul.

After the temple is repaired, the soul of the fat monk will naturally return to its place, and the previous grievances will be wiped out.

The monks in the temple had no doubts and mobilized believers to repair the temple that night.

Build the temple first and then release the people.

This is also Cao Zheng's subtle adjustment to the plot. Nothing will go wrong, right?

But what Cao Zheng didn't know was.

When the Chishui River God saw that the temple was being repaired, he was so proud that he forgot his plan with Cao Zheng.

He generously sent the old monk's soul back...

One day later, when Cao Zheng suddenly heard that the abbot of a temple in the county had recovered from his illness, he was obviously still a little confused.

"Did these monks cultivate so quickly...?"

At this time, he suddenly had an ominous premonition, put on his clothes and rode towards the temple, whipping up his whip.

What other temples there are, they have been completely destroyed by this group of monks.

Cao Zheng's mind went blank.

Simple modifications did not affect the plot, and the temple was still destroyed according to the script.

The abbot was sitting on the carriage, directing the demolition work on site, burying the remaining ruins into the soil.

"What are you doing!" Cao Zheng yelled, "Stop it quickly!"

The two disciples protected the abbot, and the fat monk smiled happily and said to Cao Zheng on the carriage:

"County magistrate, please calm down. This Chishui God is a wild god. It is his own fault for not responding to his followers and losing his incense.

Moreover, he does not reflect on himself, but instead angers our Buddhist sect, which is no different from the evil sect. To eradicate it with a sharp knife, a poor monk is better than building a seven-level pagoda."

"Really?" A loud voice came from mid-air.

Immediately afterwards, thick dark clouds covered the sky, and strong winds blew the monks who were demolishing the house staggering.

The disciples next to the abbot were so frightened that they collapsed on the ground.

A huge armored figure appeared in mid-air, standing on auspicious clouds and glaring at the people below.

This person is none other than the Chishui River God.

The plot was different from the simulation. Cao Zheng was a little confused at first, but then he suddenly realized it.

The river god in the simulator is exhausted. Now that the statue has been repaired, there will naturally be a chance to reappear.
