Chapter 87: The Three-Country Trip to Europe

On February 1, 1897, Zhang Yunfei and his huge naval officers and corps arrived at Portsmouth, England, where he received the long-awaited customized warships. Two Aries-class battleships with displacement of 13,000 tons and speed of 18 knots were named Beijing and Fengtian, respectively. Two Haiyan-class heavy cruisers with displacement of 9,000 tons and speed of 21 knots (also called large armored cruisers, Zhang Yunfei designed and modified reduced versions of battle cruisers that can easily destroy cruisers below this tonnage) were named Lushun and Weihaiwei respectively.

In fact, the Lushun and Weihaiwei were completed a month ago. The reason why they did not drive back was because they were afraid of being plotted by enemy countries such as Japan. To be on the safe side, Zhang Yunfei waited until all the warships in Europe were completed and then drove back to Hawaii.

As the receptionist of Zhang Yunfei, the military alliance, Lord Fisher, the British Minister of Naval Affairs, and British Foreign Minister Kimberly held a grand ship award ceremony for the warships received by Zhang Yunfei and his naval officers.

Kimberley even gave Zhang Yunfei four purebred British bulldogs that had just been full moon as auspicious animal for warships.

At the same time, it also expressed that Prime Minister Marquis Salisbury's hope that Zhang Yunfei would participate in the grand naval celebration for the 60th anniversary of the ascension of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, held on June 28 this year.

After thanking Kimberley for this, Zhang Yunfei expressed that he would attend the upcoming celebration of the 60th anniversary of the ascension of Queen Victoria in the UK, and looked forward to meeting with British Prime Minister Marquis Salisbury.

At the same time, Zhang Yunfei placed an order for lightning strike ships at the British Armstrong Shipyard. He ordered four lightning strike destroyers with a tonnage of about 600 tons and a speed of 26 knots. He required the ability to follow the main fleet and the cost was estimated to be 80,000 pounds. Zhang Yunfei knew that the UK had now developed a practical steam turbine and would first be equipped on the lightning strike destroyer, so he dared to place an order with a big notice.

After handing over the warships, Zhang Yunfei took away the Naval Officer Corps who had been trained in the UK for two years and a large number of engineers and technicians, and at the same time left the third batch of Naval Study Officers he brought to be trained in the Royal Navy.

The next day, after Zhang Yunfei took the flagship Beijing, Lieutenant General Lin Jianzhang, commander of the Navy's Pacific Fleet, ordered four warships to head to the Loire Shipyard (the predecessor of the Atlantic Shipyard) in Saint-Nazell in western France.

Zhang Yunfei and French representatives held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the warship handover and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Loire River Shipyard. Afterwards, Zhang Yunfei named the two Seahawk-class heavy cruisers with displacement of 9,000 tons and speed of 22 knots delivered by France as Dalian and Dandong respectively.

Similarly, Zhang Yunfei was very worried about France, a country that was very vengeful. In order to prevent France from being disgusted with its military exchanges with Germany, he continued to play a balance between Germany and France.

So Zhang Yunfei ordered four lightning destroyers from the French shipyard, which was basically the same as the British ones, but they were worse than those built by the British on ocean-going voyages. The same displacement was about 600 tons and the speed was 26 knots.

The next day, Zhang Yunfei led his fleet to the Royal Shipyard of Wilhelmshaven, Germany.

After arriving in Wilhelmshaven, there, Zhang Yunfei and his fleet were warmly welcomed by the German government. Zhang Yunfei knew that this was what Germany did on purpose, to make all countries, especially the British, know about Zhang Yunfei's intimate relationship with Germany.

Damn German guy, when will he learn to create momentum and provoke discord?

After boarding the dock, Zhang Yunfei saw his former acquaintance, the new German Navy Secretary, Count Alfred von Tirpitz, waiting for him with a smile, and behind him were a group of German officers in blue uniforms.

What a big scene!

Zhang Yunfei thought to himself: "Oh my god, the Navy Minister came to welcome me, which really made me flattered! It seems that Germany was completely rigging with Britain, otherwise it wouldn't have been so grand to welcome him."

Zhang Yunfei understood his own status, at most he was a second-rate warlord. He could not compare with these genuine empires. He still had this self-knowledge.

Knowing that the Navy Minister Tirpitz is currently a celebrity around the German Emperor, Zhang Yunfei dared not be proud and hurriedly stepped forward to shake hands and greet him.

"Dear Count Tirpitz, I am so happy to see you again!" Zhang Yunfei said cordially with Count Tirpitz.

Seeing that Zhang Yunfei did not wear a yellow marshal's uniform this time, he joked: "Hisser Duke, I am so envious of the naval uniforms you and your officers! If the uniforms of one of your ordinary officers are sold, you can buy three sets of naval uniforms from Germany!"

Seeing the naval uniform of Count Tirpitz, Zhang Yunfei thought to himself: "I didn't see that you are quite sensible and trendy! Although our military uniform is a bit expensive, it's worth the money! Look at your blue military uniform, it looks like a rustic bun."

After a slap in his heart, Zhang Yunfei said, "Haha, the Earl is joking. We are just a show of ourselves, how can we compare with your soldiers? Look at your soldiers no matter what clothes they wear, they are majestic at any stop!"

After hearing Zhang Yunfei flattering, Count Tirpitz also enjoyed it very much, but it does not mean that he would underestimate Zhang Yunfei and think that Zhang Yunfei's navy is worse than their German navy.

Earl Tirpitz knew that Zhang Yunfei could train an elite army in a short time, which proved that he was capable, so his navy must not be much worse.

Germany can train an elite army for him, and Britain can also train an elite navy for him. Otherwise, why would he, as a powerful European country, come to welcome Zhang Yunfei in person?

Rather than saying that Germany is afraid of Britain, it is better to say that Germany attaches importance to Zhang Yunfei's strength. Without the leadership of that country, he is a fool. They all know Zhang Yunfei's energy. The reason why he pretends to be crazy and stupid makes Zhang Yunfei take advantage of loopholes is because they are old foxes and have long tails! Zhang Yunfei has not affected their vital interests yet. The current cooperation with Zhang Yunfei is a sure profit and no loss.

Then he returned to the old routine. Accompanied by German Navy Secretary Earl Tirpitz, Zhang Yunfei took a break and talked for a while, and then held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the handover of warships.

Similarly, the two Taurus-class battleships with displacement of 13,000 tons and speed of 18 knots were named Jilin and Harbin respectively.

Subsequently, at the request of Count Tirpitz, Zhang Yunfei allowed the German Navy to visit four heavy cruisers and two battleships.

As a reward for Germany's accelerated completion of the warship, Zhang Yunfei told him after handing over that the battlecruiser drawings designed by Anderson were handed over to the German Navy Secretary Earl Tirpitz.

Earl Tirpitz was very happy after reading it because he was also a naval person, so of course he knew the authenticity of the drawings.

Of course, Zhang Yunfei would not lie to him. The drawings were drawn completely according to future battle cruisers, but the basis of all this requires the use of more advanced steam turbines to make this battle cruiser work. If there is no steam turbine, it is a piece of waste paper.

As for how Germany gets the drawings of the steam turbine, Zhang Yunfei can't control it. Whether you go to the UK to steal or develop it yourself. It's best to study it earlier. In that case, Germany will build more Fearless battleships and battle cruisers earlier. It won't be too miserable when fighting with Britain in the future. It's best if you both lose and lose both sides and are exhausted.

‘I will make a profit at that time. If you feel good, I will sell you planes, cannons and warships at a high price. If you are unhappy, I will slap you all over!’ Zhang Yunfei thought to himself.

"I don't know when you will get the design drawings of the steam turbine. Our German government will never treat you badly!" said Count Tirpitz.

'It's not easy to want drawings, but it depends on how you respect me!'

Thinking of this, Zhang Yunfei said: "The drawings of this steam turbine are currently being tested in the UK. As expected, it will take two or three years. Even with my relationship with the UK, it will probably cost you a certain amount of money to get it! But I am still very friendly to your country, and everything will be easy to say at that time, right!"

Count Tirpitz also knew that it was difficult to get such critical technology and drawings, so he had to say: "In my repayment to you, our Admiralty has just developed a blackhead torpedo made of phosphor bronze. Although its principle is basically the same as the popular whitehead torpedo, various indicators have been improved, such as the diameter is reduced to 304 mm, the length is increased to 4.57 meters, the weight is increased to 275 kg, and the charge volume is increased to 20 kg. It can be launched underwater at a depth of 5 meters and the direction is stable, with a speed of 22 knots, but the range is only 500 meters. Our Admiralty has currently manufactured 50 such torpedoes, and the warships you are customized are equipped with 30. Here are all the design information of this blackhead torpedo, and we will give it to you together as a reward for you!"

Xiami? Blackheaded torpedo! Has my character exploded again?

So Zhang Yunfei said, "Thank you very much!"

Count Tirpitz said: "This is what you deserve. I hope we can continue to cooperate in the future."

"Of course!" Zhang Yunfei replied.

Afterwards, Zhang Yunfei held several talks with Count Tirpitz, mainly discussing some issues that both of them were interested in. It was mainly the issue of Zhang Yunfei's next action in the Far East. Since Zhang Yunfei's current naval power has risen to the point where these European powers have attracted attention, he is very concerned about what Zhang Yunfei will do with these warships. It can be seen from Zhang Yunfei's journey through Britain and France.

However, they just thought that Zhang Yunfei's main focus was on dealing with Japan and returning to the Qing Dynasty, so they were all happy to please Zhang Yunfei so that they could gain some benefits from Zhang Yunfei's subsequent actions.

Earl Tirpitz also suggested to Zhang Yunfei that Emperor William of Germany invited Zhang Yunfei to Berlin as a guest, but Zhang Yunfei refused and said that he still had something to do.

In fact, Zhang Yunfei did have something to do, and Count Tirpitz also knew what Zhang Yunfei was going to do. However, everyone, including Zhang Yunfei, did not expect that what happened next had exceeded everyone's imagination.

A few days later, Zhang Yunfei took his Pacific Fleet to the United States, where a large number of naval personnel and warships were waiting for Zhang Yunfei!
