Chapter 3: The Rise of Great Powers 261: India Confrontation 1o

Song Qing was ordered by Barth to go west to inquire about military information. There were twenty-eight brothers who came out of Kumila together. They all went out into several directions. Song Qing and the other two came to Dhaka with a local guide.

Because he had already entered the British sphere of influence, four people dressed in businessmen and chose the small path to walk.

It was only a hundred kilometers away from Kumila to Daka. Song Qing and others left in the morning and arrived at Moral Kandi before the sun set.

Daode Kandy is a small town facing the Kareni River. The entire town is a street less than 200 meters, and most of the residents on the street are fishermen. Outside the town, there is a British fortress, with about a battalion of British troops stationed inside. These British troops guard the ferry crossing the Kareni River with their hands.

Song Qing hid at a nearby hill and carefully observed the situation of the ferry with a telescope. The British army was carefully checking everyone who wanted to cross the river. He moved the camera along the stone steps on the river bank to the town. There was also a patrolling British army in the town, and these British soldiers in red were questioning each strange face.

Regarding the British army's rigorous investigation, Song Qing was a little suspicious that there was something going on in front of him, so he decided to continue crossing the river and take a look. For this reason, Song Qing asked the guide to find the upstream and really asked them to find a fisherman here. After giving the fishermen some property, Song Qing and the other four crossed the Karenni River. They spent the night in the wild that night, and continued to travel west in the early morning of the next day. At noon, they arrived at Danara Yangganjie.

Narayangganjie is a port town, only 20 kilometers away from Dhaka. From the British fortress outside the town, the British troops stationed here are at least one regiment. But in fact, Song Qing and the others did not show too many British troops here. The British troops guarding here are particularly cautious. They hardly saw British troops coming out to move on the streets of Narayangganjie. Song Qing was wondering, and the guide who sent out to inquire about the situation brought them excellent news. It turned out that Dhaka was in war. There was no doubt that the coalition forces had already reached Dhaka.

This news made Song Qing particularly excited. The four of them ate dry food and tidied it up for a while, and then took a detour to continue to enter Dhaka. Finally, before dark, they reached not far outside Dhaka City.

Standing on a land bun, Song Qing saw the battlefield of Dhaka, and saw flags waving outside the city of Dhaka. The camps were connected. Looking forward, the fields, mountains and troops were vivid in my mind. On the part of the city of Dhaka, the British army standing on the city walls and fortresses seemed to be a red city wall, while the neat square formations arranged outside the city were green oceans. Occasionally, some colorful military uniforms were interspersed in the green ocean, and the armies of Burma and other countries were slowly evacuating the battlefield. Teams of soldiers were slowly moving in the sound of trumpets, and artillery left the battlefield under the drag of cattle and horses, and everything was going in an orderly manner.

It seemed that the battle had ended, and Song Qing's eyes were searching on the battlefield. The setting sun was as bloody as blood, and the blood-like light enveloped the entire battlefield. The earth walls of Dhaka and the white tents of the coalition forces were covered with a layer of orange. Song Qing's heroic spirit was ups and downs. A good man was killed in the battlefield and was still in the battlefield. He turned over and shouted to the two soldiers behind him: "Come on."

In the setting sun, Song Qing rushed away against the golden dragon flag outside Dhaka City. The wind whistled in his ears, and the earth extended under his feet. In front of him was a row of coalition camp surrounded by wooden fences and watchtowers.

After meeting Zeng Guofan, the commander of the North Road coalition, Song Qing did not stop. On that day, he and his three companions transferred to the horses and rushed back to Kumira. This time, Song Qing had two tasks. One told the General that the North Road coalition had begun to attack Dhaka, and the general asked for the General's support; the other was to inform the General that the British army began to harass the coalition supply. The earlier these two things were sent back, the better. Song Qing and the four, one man and two horses, rushed all night long.

They rushed along the way, and in just half an hour they had arrived at Narayang Ganjie. They still found a fisherman to cross the river, and the four of them did not dare to stop and leave again while the moonlight.

In the middle of the night, when I arrived at a hillside, I heard a sudden whistle, and many locals wrapped in headscarves surged out from all sides. These people shouted loudly with various weapons. Song Qing couldn't understand the local dialect. Seeing the guide frightened, he felt something was wrong. He hurriedly saw Song Qing saying "Go" to the soldiers behind him. Before he could finish speaking, Song Qing rode his horse forward. The horse had just risen up, and suddenly his horse fell short. Seeing that Song Qing was about to fall on the grass, he saw him turning forward and landing steadily on the ground. The horse fell to the ground with a wail.

When Song Qing landed, he found a tripping rope on the ground and looked around. The dark-looking natives had already surrounded him. One of the men was holding a British standard rifle in his hand and shouting at Song Qing. Some of the others were holding bird guns, some holding spears, and some holding bows and arrows. It seemed that they had encountered a scissor, Song Qing laughed mockingly. He did not pull out the revolver at his waist, and stood there waiting for the people to surround him.

The men rushed up, seized all the weapons of the four people, and tied them with ropes. The guide kept talking to these people. Seeing his anxious look, it seemed that the bandits didn't buy it. They still took the four of them to a nearby hill.

What Song Qing couldn't figure out along the way was how these bandits came out to steal people at night. He asked the guide: "What are these people doing? Why should we arrest us?"

The guide replied in bad Chinese language: "Master, these people are bandits. They thought we were merchants and wanted to blackmail our money. I told them that we were Chinese people, and they just didn't believe it and wanted to take us to their base."

“Where is their residence?”

As soon as Song Qing asked, he arrived at the place where the bandits rested.          Soon Song Qing realized that he was in trouble. It was only three or two hundred meters away from the road. The horse hooves were loud at night. The bandits who were lying on the ground knew that they were coming from a distance. Didn’t they fall into the trap of their own traveling overnight?
