Chapter 27 A Morning in the Perfume Merchant
Antoine got up about half an hour earlier than usual, but not only did he not feel confused, but his mind was particularly clear.
Even last night, I held on to the Moulin Rouge for an extra minute. For a man of his age, it was a rare breakthrough to increase the duration without the help of medicine.
When I woke up in the morning, I rang the copper bell beside the bed. Soon a maid and a butler would prepare everything for him. By the time I went downstairs, the breakfast was already on the dining table.
Because of excitement, he even turned on his pneumatic phonograph for the first time.
“A beautiful morning, wasn’t it?”
He opened the window and smiled and said to his butler, "The weather is getting warmer, so I told Ram that it's time to start signing a Rose Petal acquisition contract."
The extraction of rose essential oil requires a large number of petals. His business was greatly affected by the murder case. Now the haze in his heart has been wiped out, and Antoine feels it is time to cheer up.
"Sir, this is the Liam Morning Post I just sent."
The housekeeper thoughtfully sent a stack of newspapers, Antoine took a sip of milk and spread the newspaper in her hand.
Although reading newspapers at breakfast is sneered by the nobles, it is a special experience for businessmen like Antoine.
Recently, several women were attacked, but fortunately they only lost some of their personal belongings and were not attacked by humans.
"The guys at the police department are getting too far. If I can become a municipal councillor, I must slam them hard."
Antoine complained, thinking that today's grilled sausage was particularly delicious.
"Go and prepare the carriage. The court will begin at nine o'clock. I hope I can arrive a little earlier. Poor Sigmun, I must have been scolded by Lawrence yesterday, and I have to give him some comfort."
The perfume merchant opened the second page of the newspaper while giving instructions, and then a line of conspicuous handwriting entered his eyes without warning.
"Due to insufficient evidence, the murder case in the Perfume Workshop is temporarily unacceptable, the trial was cancelled, and the suspect Lawrence Skinder was temporarily released!"
Bang!
In surprise, Antoine stood up suddenly, the fat on her belly pulled the tablecloth, and the milk cup on the table was also accidentally knocked over by him.
"gentlemen……"
The servant and the butler rushed over to hear the sound.
"absurd!"
"Lawrence is the murderer, he is the damn murderer! It should all end!"
“Insufficient evidence?”
"How could there be insufficient evidence?"
"The knife and clothes are in his room, and he must have killed people. Are these policemen's brains filled with fish soup?"
Faces flashed through my mind, and the remaining young man with a greedy face was finally left.
"Prepare the carriage, prepare the carriage immediately, send someone to help me contact Officer Lenny, and let Ram come over immediately, I want to know where that Sigmun is now?!"
The fat flesh on his body trembled, and Antoine roared and roared.
But after a while, he noticed that the butler beside him was standing still with a stiff face, holding the newspaper picked up from the ground in his hand.
"What are you doing, carriage, damn carriage, go and prepare!"
"First...sir!"
The housekeeper swallowed, "I think you should check this message."
"What information?" Antoine pulled the newspaper almost brutally, and then a line of big words came into view.
"The secret behind it - the perfume murder, Antoine Perio's dirty!"
"I am Sigmon Skinder, the son of Lawrence, the suspect in the perfume murder case. Recently, I have suffered unfair treatment and coercion for my father's affairs."
The matter starts a few days ago...
The fat flesh on Antoine's cheek trembled, and he suppressed his anger and read the report word by word.
"I don't know what happened, but Mr. Antoine refused to help me. I think what he said makes sense. Paying that money now does not meet the terms of the contract."
He said a criminal was not qualified to receive that money, and if Lawrence died, that money must be used to compensate for the losses caused by the incident.
But the condition he mentioned later made me feel very strange.
Every line of words on the newspaper teased Antoine's nerves, and the veins on his hands swelled up, and the edges of the newspaper were crushed by him.
"Mr. Antoine said he could give me some money on the condition that I would persuade Lawrence to give up his rights and make a formal statement afterwards, and I don't understand the logic here."
"God, why is this happening? Why is he looking forward to Lawrence dying immediately? Is there any secret in it?"
"My head is very confused and I can't figure out the reason, but as a son, I know that I can't do this, no matter how much money he gives, even if he will bully and oppress me..."
"Even put me in death threat because of this."
"But I won't surrender. That's my relative. I'm going to sell my relatives for a little money?"
"No, no, I refuse!"
Reading these words, Antoine's smiling face seemed to appear before her.
"Shit!"
"This despicable and shameless...how dare he? How dare he treat me like this?!"
The perfume merchant suddenly raised his head, "You all heard that day, you heard what the young man said with your own ears!"
The housekeeper did not dare to look at Antoine and lowered his head carefully.
"He said he had to add money!"
"The greedy blood-sucking bug blackmailed one hundred and fifty gold pounds in my room, but now? He told everyone in the newspaper that he didn't take a single copper coin!"
"Damn it, isn't the carriage ready yet? Send me to the police station right now." Two accidents made Antoine extremely upset. He still couldn't figure out the connection.
Lawrence's release may be a coincidence, but the despicable Sigmun, he is teasing himself and trampling on his dignity.
Pushing away the chair, Antoine strides forward, but the next second he feels a dizzy moment, and the butler's call comes from his ear.
Before fainting, Antoine inexplicably thought came out of her mind.
"I shouldn't have had a second time at Moulin Mound last night..."
I don't know how long it took, the buzzing roar echoed in my mind. Antoine opened her eyes tiredly and found herself half leaning on the bed, a middle-aged man who looked like a doctor next to her was talking to the housekeeper.
"Nothing big, but you need to pay attention to moderation. If you need it, I can provide you with a special potion..."
"I don't need it!" Antoine interrupted the doctor rudely, "pay him to leave, and prepare another carriage..."
"But your body."
"Go and prepare the carriage!"
Antoine gave the order, but at this moment, there was a noise outside the door. The housekeeper got up and walked in worriedly not long after.
"What's wrong?"
"Sir..." The housekeeper sucked in, and he stopped talking.
"Did those newspaper reporters come to you?"
"No, it's Miss Rilla. When you were unconscious just now, Miss Rilla ran out in the chaos."
"What?" Antoine sat up suddenly without caring about the dizziness in her mind.
"Where has she been going? Send someone to find her!"
"Ram has found her." The butler looked hesitant.
"Ram?"
Antoine was stunned for a moment. He assigned Ram only one task, which was to track a young man.
Sure enough, the next second the housekeeper gave an answer that made him extremely collapsed.
"Miss Rilla is with that Sigmun..."
Everything in front of him was swallowed by the darkness, Antoine twitched for a moment and lost consciousness again.
