Chapter fifty-one

After Chenjia Village became famous, villagers came to sell medicinal materials from time to time.

"Can this medicinal material be collected?"

"How much money can you give?"

These are the two sentences that Xie Liangchen often hears.

As the number of medicinal materials was given to the paper mill, Xie Liangchen also had some money in his hand, so he discussed with Chen Yongsheng to collect some common medicines in the north.

For example, Bupleurum, windproof.

The villagers also learned to recognize these medicines one after another.

Older people in the village can recognize each other faster than half-aged men. They are quick-witted and often run around the mountains. When they encounter similar medicinal herbs, they come to ask them. After many times, they can figure it out clearly.

Even the children like Heidan, with Chen Zigeng being guided by, they learned how to learn.

As long as people from other villages came to Chenjia Village to sell medicine when they were not collecting herbs, a group of people would gather around to check. Everyone talked about it. People from other villages were stunned when they heard it, and they thought that any person in Chenjia Village could be told in a very clear way.

However, this time the villagers encountered difficulties.

A mother-in-law in her fifties carried a bamboo basket into the village. Most of the medicines in the bamboo basket were unknown to them.

After a while of silence, Chen Yuer finally said, "This one looks like a grass turtle. Yesterday I saw Sister Chen painting, which is very similar to this one."

When the mother-in-law heard this, she raised her face and looked expectant: "Is it the medicinal material?"

"It should be a medicine," Chen Yu'er's cheeks flushed slightly. I'm afraid she had admitted her mistake, which made people disappointed. "Wait for a while, Sister Chen should be here soon. Let Sister Chen see it and you will know."

The mother-in-law nodded. She probably had walked a long way. She seemed panting and simply sat on the stone at the entrance of the village waiting.

After a moment, I heard the bustling sound. My mother-in-law looked up and saw a girl in a coarse cloth dress, surrounded by people coming towards her.

My mother-in-law's eyes fell on the girl's face and looked at her quietly.

Xie Liangchen walked up to him and saluted his mother-in-law: "I'll go and see the medicinal materials you brought."

The mother-in-law answered.

Xie Liangchen took out the medicinal materials from the bamboo basket and checked carefully: "This is milk ginseng, also called pig's milk."

Heidan's face turned red when she heard this. When she went up the mountain, Sister Chen told him, but he didn't remember it.

Heidan said embarrassedly: "This looks different."

"This tree is relatively large and doesn't look very similar at first glance," Xie Liangchen broke the milk ginseng and immediately came out of it. "Is it the same as what I picked you before?"

Heidan and Chen Yuer nodded when they saw this.

"Take it slow," Xie Liangchen said with a smile, "I have seen it a lot, and I will know it next time. If you can learn it once, I will be useless as a gentleman."

The children smiled again.

Chen Yuer pointed to another medicine in Xie Liangchen's hand: "I said this is Caowu."

Xie Liangchen nodded: "Yes, Caowu."

Chen Yu'er looked full of joy and turned around and talked to the girls in the village with a smile.

Taking advantage of the opportunity to collect medicine, Xie Liangchen hopes that the people in Chenjia Village can recognize more medicinal materials.

"Did you take this medicine?" the mother-in-law asked Xie Liangchen.

Xie Liangchen nodded and told the truth: "There are a lot of milk ginseng on the mountain, and the price is not high, but the grass is OK. If you can trust it, we will collect thirty cents per pound of medicine."

The mother-in-law seemed a little surprised, but she did not immediately say whether to sell it or not. Instead, she looked at Xie Liangchen: "I have walked too far to go to your house to rest and ask for water."

Xie Liangchen asked Chen Zigeng to help his mother-in-law up, and Heidan carried a bamboo basket on his back, and the few people returned home together.

When Mrs. Chen saw her granddaughter, her grandson brought back an old lady. She was a little surprised. Without saying a word, she took out a big bowl to entertain people to drink water.

Looking at the wild mint in the bowl, the woman was slightly stunned: "What is this?"

"Wild mint," said Old Mrs. Chen with a smile, "My granddaughter teaches you. Drink it to quench your thirst. You can taste it."

The woman picked up the bowl, took a few sips, then nodded and looked into the yard casually.

Xie Liangchen steamed in the basket in the yard, and the Polygonatum was dried several times.

Xie Liangchen walked into the kitchen and added a fire to the big pot. There was still Polygonatum in the pot but it was not steamed. When he walked out, he happened to see the mother-in-law reaching into the basket, then took out Polygonatum and put it on the nose to smell it.

Xie Liangchen's expression remained unchanged, but his heart was slightly turbulent.

Most people won’t pick her up and check her black Polygonatum.

Xie Liangchen pretended not to see it and walked back to the yard.

"What is cooked in the kitchen?" the old woman asked inadvertently.

Xie Liangchen did not hide it: "We are steaming medicinal materials."

Old Mrs. Chen smiled and said, "My granddaughter loves to tinker with these. Look at the medicinal materials in the yard, she made them all."

When the old woman heard this, she looked at the Polygonatum that was being exposed. Xie Liangchen walked over and wanted to put it away.

The mother-in-law seemed to say casually: "Is it done?"

Xie Liangchen shook his head: "No, the heat is wrong, I have to do it again."

Hearing this, Old Mrs. Chen felt like she had been stabbed several times in her heart. Her granddaughter said that the medicine was prepared and sold for a lot of money. She had a great hope, after all, many of the things her granddaughter said had come true.

But I couldn't resist my granddaughter's waste again and again. Not counting the money for medicinal materials, I also used a lot of firewood for burning firewood. I accidentally fell asleep by the stove last night, almost burning my hair and eyebrows.

While complaining about Chai He, Old Mrs. Chen looked at her granddaughter's little face that had lost weight, and said in a tough tone: "If this pot is not steamed well, you can't make it anymore."

During the day, I took everyone to collect herbs and sell medicines. After I got home, I had to help Chen Yongsheng check the accounts together. Everyone was resting, and Chen Yatou started to toss in the kitchen again.

Even if I eat rice and eggs every day, my body can't stand it.

Xie Liangchen was so thin that the two ducks in the yard did not dare to look at Old Mrs. Chen, for fear of ending like two hens.

While Mrs. Chen was thinking, she heard the old lady in the yard say, "Do you have any food? She hasn't eaten for a day and can't walk anymore."

Old Mrs. Chen subconsciously wanted to say no. Looking at the old woman's thin appearance, she couldn't help feeling soft: "I have some food left tonight, so wait."

The old lady ate a bowl of mixed grain rice and drank a few bowls of water, but did not leave, and finally lived in Old Mrs. Chen's house.

"Sister," Chen Zigeng leaned into Xie Liangchen's ears, "I don't know who the mother-in-law is? Why did she come to our house."

Xie Liangchen didn't know either, but when the old lady saw Polygonatum making, she was a little surprised in her eyes, and then she shook her head gently.

Obviously the woman knew that the Polygonatum was not hot enough.

"I don't know either," Xie Liangchen said, "Look, let's talk about it." She showed the medicinal herb painting to Lord Li You, and then identified the medicinal herbs in public in the yamen to make a name for her.

My second uncle took the villagers to collect medicine everywhere, and everyone around the town and prefecture began to know Chenjia Village. She was ready and someone would come to Chenjia Village to find out the truth.

She still didn't know what this mother-in-law intended, so she could only wait and see what was going on.

While Old Lady Chen and Chen Zigeng were not paying attention, Xie Liangchen left the yard and walked to the back of the room.

After a moment, Chang Yue walked quickly.

Xie Liangchen saluted Chang Yue, and Chang Yue hurriedly avoided: "Miss Xie has anything to give?"

Xie Liangchen said: "A mother-in-law came to my house and looked very unusual. When she left, I'd like to follow her and take a look."

Chang Yue responded: "Don't worry, Miss, I'll make arrangements."

After saying that, Chang Yue's figure disappeared in front of Xie Liangchen again.

The sky is getting darker.

When it was late at night, the kitchen in Old Mrs. Chen's house was still lit.

The girl leaned against the stove with her eyes closed as if she was already asleep.
